Does Magus Lose Spell on Sword When it Misses?

Rules Questions

As per th subject heading. I'm in the middle of a PSOP session, so in the interest of time for the ruling, I'm just letting it go as a normal touch spell where it doesn't get lost. But I'm posting this, so we can get a more official ruling we can look back to at the end of the encounter. Any answers are appreciated.

The spell isn't on the sword; it's a touch spell being cast by the magus.

The only difference between spellstrike and a normal touch spell delivery is that the magus makes a regular melee attack in lieu of a melee touch attack. If the attack succeeds, the spell is delivered; if it fails, the spell is held, and the magus can attempt to deliver it the next time he gets to make an attack with any weapon.

Pretty sure this FAQ answers your question pretty definitively as: No, the Magus does not lose his touch spell when he misses. Doesn't even lose it if he's disarmed and picks up a different weapon.

No.

No he does not. Next turn he can attempt a new spellstrike. If he casts another spell before unleashing it though, the held spell is lost.

He is not holding the charge on the sword, its in his hand. Instead if delivering it through touch, he channels it through his weapon.

What if that spell is Chill touch? ;)

Chill Touch is a touch spell just like any other, with the exceptional property that the charge can be used multiple times before it fully discharges.

Frostbite has the same thing, its great on a whip.

But why can you hold the charge given this statement in the Core Rulebook?

Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets as part of the spell. You can't hold the charge of such a spell; you must touch all targets of the spell in the same round that you finish casting the spell.

Chill touch is not your standard touch spell, it has it's own particular mechanics.

This is for covering spells like dimension door or teleport or other spells that have beneficial effects with a range of touch.
