Undead Ally

Rules Questions

So, if I Animate Dead, can I cast Battlemind Link on it?

I'm not sure on the rules, here. It has no intelligence...does that affect the "Will Save (harmless)" aspect of it all?

The spell itself doesn't require the ally to have intelligence, so I'm just wondering if any other rule makes this not a valid combo.

Battlemind Link is a mind-affecting spell, and undead are explicitly immune to mind-affecting spells. You're out of luck.

Undead are actually exempt from quite a few bonuses because of this immunity.

School divination [mind-affecting]

Sorry Bud, your undead friends cannot be effect by this spell. However if you take a level in Sorcerer with the undead bloodline.

Bloodline Arcana: Some undead are susceptible to your mind-affecting spells. Corporeal undead that were once humanoids are treated as humanoids for the purposes of determining which spells affect them.

You an cast it on the undead target but due to mindless making them immune to mind-affecting effects you would gain nothing from it.

It is a valid target... there is a difference, being immune and not being able to target the undead ally are two different things mechanically.

Threnodic Spell (Metamagic) (Ultimate Magic)

Well, the zombie in question is a black dragon, so the sorcerer bloodline wouldn't work. Even then, I really, really want to keep my two bloodlines. I guess I could up a feat and get Threnodic Spell, but that means it would be a level 8 spell....kinda crappy. I wish I could do a metamagic rod somehow, but I already have 2 weapons, and a glove of storing filled. Wish I could have another arm, or something. Double the price and make the rod slotless. Thanks, everyone.

A rod is slotless. All you do is pull it out (I think a move action), and use it. It doesn't require a slot.

Magical Lineage (Trait)(Advanced New Rules)

That might help a bit.

No, bigrig, I meant slotless like an ioun stone. I was saying, I already have my hands as full as I can get them.

And I really don't wanna get rid of any feats, or either trait, really...

I guess I'll just burn a contingency spell before every combat, and it cast Battlemind link on me and my dragon zombie mount if combat ever breaks out. When I cast contingency, I'll have the metamagic rod in hand, so I can still have my first turn of combat how I want, with my hands full of what I want.

Crap! I just saw...in Contingency, the companion spell can't be greater than 1/3 your caster level. So...I have to wait til I'm like, level 19 before I can even do that. And I'm not even quite sure I can do Battlemind Link with Contingency, as Contingency says the spell is one that I cast on me (personal). It is cast on me, but also another creature. I would be curious if I could even do that, but it's superfluous, as I'm wanting to figure out something else anyway (don't want to wait until level 19 to be able to do this).

Wonder if there is a magical item that lets me prepare a spell for the day, so I can cast it as a standard action (I'm a sorcerer). That way, I can start combat with the rod in my hand, cast the spell as a standard action, put the rod away as a move.

Which also brings up another question. If initiative is already rolled, and you cast Battlemind Link, do you roll initiative again for yourself and the linked ally? The spell description makes me think that you do.

Going to go with 'No' on re rolling intiative. It doesn't say you do.
