PRC Question

Wrath of the Righteous

I know it might make thematic sense to take the Emperayal Cultist PRC but would it be of benefit in the epic campaign?

Silver Crusade

that would be up the one weaving the story together for you. In my path, there is a fair bit of divine assistance, it is very much good vs evil.. not so much law vs chaos.

Would the hierophant be a good mythic path to take?

Silver Crusade

To be honest, almost any Prestige Class would be beneficial. This adventure Path will take through all 20 seasons of adventuring.

Each of the six paths have tradeoff's Ive got now a dozen players, if all show up to my adventures. The only path none of them are going is that of the Trickster, Simply because none choose the background feat associated with it.

Some of the player have issues with 3x because you can describe a character two different ways. This was my first 3.x charater and still my favorite. Converted him to pf and he is below. My guys are still learning to describe their PCs as the second. Funny thing is they are all DM's and have no issue doing the 2nd for NPCs in their worlds, just for PC's they play in any world.

Spoiler:
The literal way, basically summary of classes and skills. As a Dwarven Fighter 5, Sorcerer 5 (golden draconic bloodline), Dragon disciple 10 with 20 ranks in craft armor/weapons/black smithing and diplomacy.

Or

The figurative way, a description of the above.
He is a sorta large-sized Dwarf who's hair and beard appear to be made of what spun gold. Large scales cover his skin that when the forge fires touch him, flair up golden and absorb the fire. on his back is both a dwarven war axe and a mining pick, his trusted forge hammer in hand. Leaning against the wall is a Mithril Tower shield. He is armored in a just a breastplate, when he walks its as though authority to command just flows from him.

Spoiler:
I know that seems random. But its not. I bring up one of my pcs who has become a GMPC's over the years. This dwarf Klokk, the persona i am on the forums. He would do well in this adventure path.

From down in the Expanse i have a kelshite heavy soldier with a spiked tower shield of mithril with a few scimitars hanging from all over his body and pack. He would do well in this path, were he not seeking to stop a menace from some old ruins.

Up in the spine of the world, an aesimar dressed in homespun grey robes travels with both the two heirs to whos lives the fates of an empire stands in balance. If he were not occupied he would do well here.

From the river kingdoms, The Dwarven Mage-Priest who has made himself a King who has finally gotten his new found kingdom in order. He will be sending troops and supplies.

Spoiler:
When the Fifth Crusade is launched, Which happens at some point during the adventures within book one. I day say that almost every major and most minor orginizations across all of entire world of Goloran reguardles of what contitent they reside on will be effected.

You have basically a place the size of a small country surrounded by a ring of fortresses and castles a Great Wall type structure was built around in the past 107 years.

Inside of this Great Wall is the entirety of the nation of Sarkoris, save one city and part of their surrounding lands. As if that wernt enough there is part of the kingdom of Mendev inside as well.

That great wall, that ring of walls, fortress, cities, towers, castles is manned by all sorts of good creatures. A series of divinly magical waystone ring "the worldwound" creating a magical field that the demons can not cross.

Kenebres where the tale begins is a key fortress housing not just a waystone, but a keystone one at for a whole quadrent. There are four such keystones in the network, it just so happens that the Kite here happened to be the one selected as the focus.

Anyway..Without giving anything away, or too much more then this.. Let me say this. Whoever you choose to be for this path, whatever you choose to do. It will work with the with storyline, Even a mammoth rider or dragon rider or halfling pickpocket, or kinder on a wanderlust.

In our world about the same length of time has seen many, many changes things happen alot slower within this world we play in. Still 107 years is a long time, At one point or another you can basically consider someone or a group of people have come to serve on the wall. Think of it like.. the wall in Game of Thrones, but it is still considered an honor to serve there by the public.

At the point of time things start, Mendev the nation that mans most of the wall, true its with Sarkorian refuges that have since become troops, but never the less it is the nation of Mendev that feeds and supplies them. All the other nations that surrounded Sarkoris turned back refuges or slaughtered them out of hand when it was discovered that demons could take human form. Only Mendev welcomed all survivors, they did have to live in camps and get "screened" before they were allowed to freely enter the nation. Even then some demons got through before the waystones were raised and the great wardstones were placed and the barrier created.

Anyway ramble short..

For the past 107 years this great wall was manned by all manner of creatures. Most good, some not. A few months back Queen Galfrey of Mendev, which really means the church of Iomedae as she is the High Priestess of her church, put out a call for able bodies followers to assemble. For months now crusaders from all over the known, and unknown great beyond, world even celestial beings have come to answer the call. Though you have seen no greater beings, Both hound and lantern archons have answered as have others.

This 5th Crusade is open to all, of good intent. The time of year that things start of is late summer. It is the day of Aroden.. died. Has become a time of celebration. villagers who have come of age over the past year are assigned weapons and training and a portion of the wall that they will be attached to. Priests are ordained.

It the in the keystone cities, of which Kenebres is one of four(iirc) that this festival of Armasse is taking place. It is a crusader wide thing celebrated in all the cities surrounding the worldwound.

The normal population is around 13 thousand souls so bear that in mind. Lord Hulrun, the well loved and admired High Inquisitor of the Crusade is going to speak at Noon. His voice is going to be amplified and repeated to large camps outside of town. Never the less it is vary crowed, there probably fifty thousand souls at this particular Armasse Celebration. Camps of Crusaders, mercenary company's in the employ of nobles, a couple groups of tinkers and gypsies, and simple commoners newly come of age and come to hear the speech before going to their place on the wall.

You can be anything, anyone. Nothing will hinder you. Even a farmer with 10's across the board and a 12 in wisdom armed with just a pitchfork can live and be successfully.

If your worried about which campaign trait to pick because they tie into the story moreso then in any previous path. Dont. As written they tie to specific paths, but for a storyteller it is a simple matter to weave them as to be more fitting for the characters in his or her tale.

The touched by divinity trait is more suited to a hierophant.. But really the really the effects granted from the traits are not truly tied to a Mythic Path. Each mythic path, it appears, was simply assiged to one of the traits, nothing in there says you cant get the Touched by Divinity bonus as say a Archmage, its just not recommended for a standard party.

Anyway.. I hope that long ramble helped some..

Silver Crusade

The things the that traits grant are not all game changing. For a Hierophant to have access to some of the archmage abilities as an Riftwarden Orphan or an Archmage have access to some of the Hierophant abilities if Touched by Divinity.

I figure its not listed anyway, but it should be. Mythic paths and assoasted traits

Spoiler:

Trickster - Chance Enounter
Marshal - Child of the Crusade
Guardian - Exposed to Awfulness
Archmage - Riftwarden Orphan
Champion - Stolen Fury
Hierophant - Touched by Divinity

Personally, seeing that this AP actually is designed to bring characters all the way to level 20, I think that avoiding Prestige classes may be a good thing. Pretty much only two classes don't have a benefit to reaching level 20 - Cleric, and Generalist Wizard.

So why bother going Prestige when you could get Deadly Performance or Master Hunter or Perfect Self?

A lot of the PRCs have awesome capstone abilities also - and since most of those will be gotten at character level 16 or so (6 base class / 10 PRC), the PCs will actuall get a whole book worth of using their awesome final power instead of just the last few fights.

You are so right! I never even considered that!

and there is ofcourse the obvious RP aspects, the Riftwarden and Low Templar PrC's are the most obvious examples

Clerics get capstone abilities, they're just hidden in the domains.

Im intending to do low templar. The flavour is more or less written for the ap several years in advance. And a angel or demon cohort at lvl 15 with more levels to go looks neat.

I am going to have to look up the low templar PRC.

It is an interesting class. Kinda of meant to be a wishy washy class? I dont know if I am good, evil, chaotic?

Yup; the low templar is a rules-method of presenting the "good or evil" nature of a crusade. Since a crusade can do great good and great evil, we wanted to encapsulate that duality in a prestige class. By the time you finish the low templar class, of course, you have to make your choice (good or evil), but the route there is twisty and curvy.

Very interesting.
