New Villainous Organization(s)

Pathfinder Society

1/5

The Aspis Consortium just isn't making it. Its like being opposed by 7-11. They're too generic. What do they stand for? What are their motives? How are they different from other evil entities?
I realize there are only so many mods available, but I'm sure in the richness of Golarion, there are other organizations to oppose the pathfinders. Lets see some of them.

How about the Abyss?

Although I don't know how organized they are...

They're a slightly eviler dutch east india company. Unlike most evil organizations they have a complete gnome underwear diagram: they have a clear sensible goal (profit), and a reasonable means of achieving that goal. (start wars, sell to both sides. Get evil artifacts. Sell evil artifacts.

The Pathfinder Society is pretty reckless and possibly evil. Start with them? Wait...

Anyways, what types of evil are you supposed to fight? You'd have to ask yourself what the goals of the society actually are, the find someone who actually opposes them and works against them.

Seek out unexplored ruins, collect information and artifacts for study, cataloging, and storage (and protection, in some cases). Seems like a group that likes to do the same, but sell the spoils to the highest bidder regardless of the end result, would be a perfect opposing group. Hmmm... Maybe a group like the Aspis Consortium?

If you're in this to fight evil, protect the innocent, and get the girl, you've probably joined the wrong group.

Grand Lodge 4/5

There's always the Golden League, they do show up in a scenario or two, and a sanctioned module...

Of course, they are usually there in cahoots with the Aspis Consortium, so...

And it doesn't help in the villain department that one of the majort sources for villains has a group within the Pathfinder Society already working for their goals (Cheliax, I'm looking at you).

Season 2 had the evil Shaow Lodge, of course.

Season 4 had the evil(?) Cult of Lissala....

Season 5 is going to have demons. Probably lots and lots of demons. And, just when you think you have defeated them, more demons!

Spoiler:
What can I say? I played Siege of the Diamond City at PaizoCon, and there were demons, more demons, and even more demons. And, just when we thought we had run out of demons, more demons!

Dark Archive 5/5 5/5

You know what I want? War with the Red Mantis. A group of Pathfinders sets sail for Mediogalti Isle, explores, and returns with the WRONG artifact. Torch's Revenge, maybe?

If you've played "Dalsine Affair", there's somebody who survives that adventure who might very well bring an organization to bear against the Pathfinder Society.

Well who would be organized and oppose a group of explorers internationally?

Your just grave robbers and looters, your not trying to enact sweeping global policy change or anything.

Maybe some kind of Golarian equivalent of Interpol?

That would actually be kind of fun. Koichi Zenigata just coming down on us constantly. I think I've got my next few PFS characters now.

I could use an organization like that! Maybe with a bit of find great treasure added.

I could think of plenty of people opposed to grave robbing and looting...

Grand Lodge 4/5

One of the Big Bads I'd like to see pop up is the Whispering Way. They would definitely be a group who might conflict with the society over lore and artifacts. Plus I want more Ustalav adventures.

Silver Crusade 4/5

Based on posts around here lately, I'm thinking the primary enemies these days are Thread Necromancers. Evil bastards, leaving zombie threads walking around like they're alive, fooling people into responding to year old posts, because they didn't check the date first and think it's a current conversation.

Sovereign Court 1/5

I wouldn't mind the society being opposed by a seemingly good organization. Or at least one that paints themselves as being righteous. It will be really easy to paint the society as evil given our numerous shady dealings.

I am thinking something on the lines of Encounter at Farpoint, but with a less bumbling and omnipotent foe.

Or replies to 4 year old posts. Eek. O.o

No need to paint over evil as evil, we do a good enough job shaking down people as is!

Yes. PEOPLE. Not organizations, and certainly not international ones. It wouldn't make sense for the Pathfinder Society to have more then just a competition style "foe" given what it actually does. It can certainly have local opponents and governments that disapprove but it also isn't doing anything that need to actually devote resources towards fighting in any extra significant manner.

This sounds like it would be right up the Cult of Norgorber's alley. It's all about keeping secrets and preventing knowledge from coming to light. The faith is pretty wide ranging, has Absalom as a center of worship but is secretive enough to have agents pretty much everywhere.

I could see them as a recurring villain-type organization, even the foil for a season.

Is "Thread Necromancy" an evil action in PFS?

I think we all know that there are 2 excellent PCs set up to be enemies in Season 5 and onward.

Spoiler:
And they're Tancred Desmire and Grandmaster Torch.

There are several PCs with ties to Norgorber. Sneaky Neutral types, and halflings, mostly.

True.. but there are what.. like 3 factions of the church and it's not too centralized. I don't NOT see this being a problem making one Cult of the Norgorber being the bad guy.

The Exchange 5/5 RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Thomas, there were people last year at this time who were all excited that Lisalla was the villain, since their PCs were worshipping her.

Norgorber will draw the same issue, much more intently, since he's one of the Big 20.

Give me

season 2 spoiler:
Pasha Muhlia Al-Jakri
as an enemy in a special in which I can play my 13th level Taldan Seeker (whom almost exclusively played season 0-3), and I can die a happy man-child.

Wouldn't it be weird... if the society were good guys?

Darklight Sisterhood? I vaguely remember someone said they got dropped from the game though, which is too bad. An organization from Cheliax made up of women + access to summoned devils = awesome.

Well at least one of the already announced scenarios for season 5 has the Church of Razmir as the villians.

And my Summoner, who has done two nodules leading up to the City of Golden Death, looks forward to dropping them down pits

That would be awesome! And they do exist as a direct response to the existence of the PFS.

They're still good for home games I suppose.
