Skill Synergy?

Liberty's Edge

I was giving some advise a moment ago and while I was double checking the PRD I noticed something odd.

The Link.
Text found just under the getting lost table.

PRD wrote:

Who says Pathfinder doesn't have skill synergy?

Skill synergy, as in the proper 3.5 rule, grants a static bonus to a specific skill once you have a certain amount of ranks in another skill. That is not the same as the linked example. Similar, sure, but not true skill synergy (this wouldn't show up on a statblock; which is the stated reason skill synergy was dropped).

"Knowledge (local) pertaining to the area being traveled through ..."

What does that even mean? Knowledge (local) isn't tied to a location, so how does this sentence make sense?

(In fact, I've always thought that they misnamed Knowledge (local) and should have left it as Gather Information, since that nearly always how it's actually used ... I'd expect a skill named Knowledge (local) to actually be tied to a location, which it isn't.)
