Boe moves forward, calling out, "I challenge you dwarf. Prepare to die!" She flings the bag in her hand at Faust. Then she whistles to Caesar and says, "Flank!" The sturdy little bulldog begins to run across the arena towards the dwarf.

Arbiter:

Move action; move 30' forward.
Swift; challenge Faust

Boe end position G10, Caesar G11

Round 0

The dwarf nods a slight bow with his head only, barely recognizing the challenge.

Very well, let's not stand on ceremony. I'll kill you and your pet, if that is your wish.

With that, he chants a few words and vanishes.

If you have spellcraft, I'll keep putting Spellcraft DC spoilers. If you don't roll for it, I'll assume you have no ranks and I'll stop putting the spoilers up for quickness' sake.

Spellcraft DC 17:
Invisibility

Perception DC 33:
I'm in K-9

Arbiter:
Standard: Cast Invisibility. Move to K-9, stealth 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33 Invisibility rounds (30/30).

Round 1

Boe commands Caesar, "Go on, Flank! Sniff 'im out boy." The dog lifts its nose into the air, snuffling about for the dwarf's scent. She holds her shield up defensively while she waits.

Don't have Spellcraft, and can't make the perception checks.

Arbiter:

Caesar moves to G8 and sniffs for Faust.

Boe goes full defensive, AC 26 this round.[/ooc]

Boe position is G10, Caesar G8.

Round 1

Nothing yet.

Perception DC 18:
I'm in K-13.

Arbiter:
Cast Aid. HP 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 Move to K-13. Stealth 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 Invisibility rounds (29/30), Aid Rounds (30/30), Aid Temp HP (10/10)[/dice]

Round 2

Boe continues to scan the room, looking for her enemy.

Arbiter:

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

She hears a scuffling, and sees a shoe depression in the sand of the arena floor. She jogs to the side and throws her bag at the spot. Then says, "There Caesar, Flank!" pointing to the spot.

Arbiter:

Move to I13.
Tanglefoot bag: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Miss

9 touch, miss. End position I13

Ceasar runs over and tries to bite the invisible dwarf.

Arbiter:

Dog moves to L12.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Miss

10 to hit, miss. End position L12.

Figured there was no need to roll concealment with such low to-hits.

Agreed

Round 2

A clanging of metal can be heard as the dwarf dodges the attacks.

Perception DC 18:
What's with these horrible stealth rolls? ;-) I'm in I-6

Arbiter:
Withdraw to I-6. Stealth 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18Invisibility rounds (28/30), Aid Rounds (29/30), Aid Temp HP (10/10)

Round 3

Arbiter:

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Boe can't locate the dwarf again, so she waits for Caesar to do it for her.

Now, the dog could have smelled you for 15', so I'm thinking it's not metagaming to have him go in the direction you went and take a move action to sniff. Agreed?

Well, when I move I don't think he can tell what direction I'm moving in, right? He just knows I'm within 15 ft and then he knows I'm not within 15 ft anymore. He needs to get within range by guessing what direction, then take a move action to locate me.

It depends on which path you took your movement through.

So if you moved down row K, he could smell you in K11-13, thus knowing you went in that direction. If you didn't go down row K, he would assume you went off to the right somewhere.

Arbiter:

Perception for dog: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

My path was: K-12, K-11, K-10, K-9, K-8, J-7, I-6

When I’m at K-11 and the dog is at L-12, he knows where I am. From K-11 I could have moved to K-10 and continued left, moved to J-10 and gone NW, or moved to J-11 and gone straight up, or curved around. If you want to have him go due west to search for me, that’s fine.

When doggie gets to L-8 he can smell me. Then if he takes another move action he knows I’m in I-6. But can he communicate that sort of thing to you without moving next to me? I assume not.

As I read it the move action is to note direction within 30'. Then once you are within 5' the pinpointing is automatic. He has no way to communicate which square you're in other than being next to you and biting/barking at you, correct.

Oh, does he have 30 ft scent? My last opponent only had 15 ft, and I thought that's what you said above in post 57, so that's why I said 15.

Scent wrote:

This special quality allows a creature to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell. Creatures with the scent ability can identify familiar odors just as humans do familiar sights.

The creature can detect opponents within 30 feet by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 60 feet; if downwind, it drops to 15 feet. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at twice the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk or troglodyte stench, can be detected at triple normal range.

When a creature detects a scent, the exact location of the source is not revealed—only its presence somewhere within range. The creature can take a move action to note the direction of the scent. When the creature is within 5 feet of the source, it pinpoints the source’s location.

A creature with the scent ability can follow tracks by smell, making a Wisdom (or Survival) check to find or follow a track. The typical DC for a fresh trail is 10 (no matter what kind of surface holds the scent). This DC increases or decreases depending on how strong the quarry’s odor is, the number of creatures, and the age of the trail. For each hour that the trail is cold, the DC increases by 2. The ability otherwise follows the rules for the Survival skill. Creatures tracking by scent ignore the effects of surface conditions and poor visibility.

Format: scent; Location: Senses.

My last post is correct. I was slightly mistaken earlier though, I was thinking that you didn't need the move action within 15'. But the 15' thing is just for downwind. It's 5' for autodetect. All scent is the same as far as I know.

Ok, so he smells me in I-6 and then moves adjacent to me. What square? Any actions from Boe?

Round 3 Completion

Dog moves to J6.

Boe follows Caesar, moving while holding her shield defensively.

Arbiter:

Fighting defensively, moving to G8.
AC currently 24

Boe moves to G8

Round 3

Caesar smells the dwarf moving to the east, then loses his scent.

The dog smells me move to I-7, then loses my scent entirely.

Perception DC 30:
I'm in B-6.

Arbiter:
Withdraw to B-6 with the following path:I-7, H-6, G-6, F-6, E-6, D-6, C-6, B-6. Stealth 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 Invisibility rounds (27/30), Aid Rounds (28/30), Aid Temp HP (10/10)

"Bloody coward," Boe mutters. "Caesar, this is pointless. Heel." Boe moves into a tight corner, Caesar following. She drops her shield and pulls out her hammer. She holds it ready to smash, working herself into a rage over the dwarf's cowardly tactics.

Arbiter:

Free action drop shield.
Movement as below, draw eartbreaker as part of move.
Free action rage.
Standard, readied attack if Caesar reveals Faust within 5'.
Readied attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 31 high good

Caesar move as below
Readies to bite anything he smells within 5'
Readied attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 97 high good
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Boe moves to K4, Caesar to K5. Boe has a readied attack for AC 19, misses if you are still invisible due to miss chance. Caesar has a 17 AC to hit with his readied attack, succeeded against concealment. his damage would be 5.

Round 4

The dwarf is still absent, and his movements can be heard distantly over the boos of the crowd.

[ooc] It was perception DC 36 to locate [/dice]

Arbiter:
Move to A-10. Stealth (+4 for distance)1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 15 + 4 = 36. Cast Bull's Strength. Invisibility rounds (26/30), Aid Rounds (27/30), Aid Temp HP (10/10), Bull's Strength (30/30)

May actions are going to be the same until you appear. How many rounds do you need to set up your schtick? We can either use the same readied attacks from above, or I will reroll one more and have it be the one for the round you appear. Assuming you don't one shot me, we can get on with the actual fight.

I'm going to buff for 4 more rounds before I fight. I know it's annoying--this was the best way I could think of to get a cleric to have a chance against all these bruisers. I hope you can face Arian sometime soon. He has a bit less "finesse" :-)

Do you want me to roll my Round 8 readied attacks, or use the ones I rolled above?

Well, those both miss, so I would say reroll, but the truth is that it won't matter anyway. I'm not planning on being adjacent to either of you. I don't have time to post it now, but do you want me to just do a quadruple turn when I can?

Yes. Like I said, my actions will just be readied attacks until you appear.

Sorry for the delay--real life stuff yesterday

Rounds 5-8

Stuff happens...

DCs to see me are 25, 19, 17, and 29, respectively.

Round 9

After less than a minute of hellish chanting, Faust reappears onto the scene. He is enormous, there are two of him mirroring each other with their movements, and a burst of unholy energy shoots forth from him.

I'm in H/I-9/10 with axe drawn and a duplicate of myself (as well as 10 ft reach). Channel energy vs both of you, damage is 7, WS DC 12 for only 3 damage.

Arbiter:
Round 5, move action to draw scroll of Deathwatch. Cast Scroll. 5ft move to B-11. Stealth 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

Round 6, move action to draw scroll of Divine Favor. Cast it. 5 ft move to C-11. Stealth 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19

Round 7, move action to draw potion of Enlarge Person. Drink it. Enlarge to C/D-10/11. 5 ft move to DE-10/11. Stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

Round 8, swift to draw scroll of Shield of Faith. Standard to cast it. Move action to H/I-9/10 (draw battle axe on the way). Stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29

Round 9, move action to create a duplicate with domain power. Standard to channel energy. 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7.

Aid Rounds (22/30), Aid Temp HP (10/10), Bull's Strength (25/30), Deathwatch (96/100), Divine Favor (7/10), Enlarge Person (8/10), Shield of Faith (9/10), Mirror Image rounds remaining (3/3), Mirror Image uses remaining (6/7), Channels Remaining (3/4)

Round 8

Arbiter:

Two rounds of rage left.

Will save Boe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Will save Caesar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Boe HP:34/40
Caesar HP:15/18

Caesar moves to K6,7,8,9,J10. Provokes AOO at K8
Boe carges to H7, also provoking if you have combat reflexes

Arbiter:

Boe attack (rage, charge, flanking): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Damage (Rage, Challenge, Power Attack): 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 1) + 13 = 15
Mirror image (high good): 1d100 ⇒ 58
Caesar attack (flanking, challenge): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Boe AC:16 this round.

Boe hits a 29 for 15 damage. Rolled high for the mirror image, so it would hit normally if 29 is enough, if not don't forget near misses destroy your figments too. Caesar with a pitiful 12 to hit.

Finally able to see their foe, Boe commands Caesar to flank, and then charges the giant dwarf screaming.

That was actually your Round 10. One thing--you're supposed to do reactive rolls first, and in this case you forgot to do your WS vs my channeling, which should have been those two attack rolls (and your attacks would have followed your saves). I don't want to deprive you of your hard-earned hit, so perhaps we can compromise where you keep Boe's attack and just roll a retroactive WS on your next turn and I'll count Caesar's roll as his Will Save (which I assume fails), and if he survives my AoO you can reroll his attack. Fair?

Round 10--start

My AoO hits 24 AC vs Caesar for 13 damage. I have Deathwatch on me, so if either of you has 3 or fewer HP left or 4 or more HP left I can tell by looking at you. Which category is Caesar in? I just need to see his status before I continue my turn.

Arbiter:
AoO vs Caesar with Axe. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 Damage, including whetstone 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 3) + 7 = 13 Turn paused to see results of AoO.

Aid Rounds (21/30), Bull's Strength (24/30), Deathwatch (95/100), Divine Favor (6/10), Enlarge Person (7/10), Shield of Faith (8/10), Mirror Image rounds remaining (2/3), Mirror Image uses remaining (6/7), Channels Remaining (3/4), down 5 HP

I did do my will saves first. They're in the spoiler.

AOO hits (by a you know what hair), Caesar is at fewer than three HP.

Oh, Ok. I don't read spoilers, so I didn't know--in the future, just put the result in ooc tags so your opponent knows if you failed or succeeded. And by future, I mean RIGHT NOW--BOOM, here comes the... (sorry, just saw that movie).

Round 10 finished

Another burst of energy emanates forth as Faust steps back from his opponent.

Channel for 5 damage (bleh), then 5ft back to H/I-10/11. WS for half damage.

Arbiter:
Channel energy again. 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 5ft step to H/I-10/11. Aid Rounds (21/30), Bull's Strength (24/30), Deathwatch (95/100), Divine Favor (6/10), Enlarge Person (7/10), Shield of Faith (8/10), Mirror Image rounds remaining (2/3), Mirror Image uses remaining (6/7), Channels Remaining (2/4), down 5 HP

Sorry, I figured he wouldn't know the result of their saves beyond visual observation of them taking damage. Next time I'll put them outside the spoiler.

Round 11

Boe Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 (Forgot a bonus last roll)
Caesar Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Caesar is still at less than 3 HP.

"We got 'im now, boy! Sick 'em!" Boe cries to her dog, following the enlarged dwarf and swinging her hammer at him again, as the dog bits at his heels. The badly wounded dog passes out after his attack, bleeding in the sand. As the dog falls, Boe screams, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"

Arbiter:

Both Boe and Caesar 5' step to maintain flanking. Then attack.

Boe attack (rage, flanking): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Caesar attack (flanking, challenge): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

One round of rage left.

Boe HP:32/40
Caesar HP:0/18

Both misses at 15 to hits. Caesar is unconscious in I10, Boe is in G8. Do you still have your figment?

Round 11

You don't have to put your saving throw rolls in view--you can do those in the spoiler and just put the results in ooc tags, like with attack rolls. I asssume you mean G-9, cuz I'm in H/I-10/11. Figment is still there.

The dwarf smiles as the dog faints. He steps back, dropping his axe and chanting some words. Boe's hammer starts heating up as Faust picks up his own weapon again.

5ft move to H/I-11/12. Drop axe. Cast a spell. You may attempt a reflex save to drop your weapon and avoid damage. If you choose not to attempt a reflex save or if you fail, you take 9 fire damage. Move to pickup axe again.

Arbiter:
5ft step to H/I-11/12. Free to drop axe. Standard to cast Burning Disarm. 3d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) = 9. Move to pick axe back up. Aid Rounds (20/30), Bull's Strength (23/30), Deathwatch (94/100), Divine Favor (5/10), Enlarge Person (6/10), Shield of Faith (7/10), Mirror Image rounds remaining (1/3), Mirror Image uses remaining (6/7), Channels Remaining (2/4), down 5 HP

Round 12

Boe growls as her hammer heats up, melting her palms, but she does not release her grip on the weapon. Stepping forward she tries to smash the dwarf's face again.

Arbiter:

5' step to follow Faust.

Last round of rage.

Attack (rage): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

HP:17/34 (lost 6 from rage ending)

Now fatigued:Can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity.

15 to hit again...grr. Sorry, last round she was in H9, this round H10.

The swing seems to have taken a lot out of Boe, the extended combat drawn out by the fiendish invisible dwarf has left her fatigued.

Round 12

The image flickers and disperses as Faust retreats a step, conjuring another image before dropping his axe and speaking in an unholy voice, trying to touch Boe with dark energy.

5ft step to H/I-12/13. Drop axe. Recreate image. Cast Inflict Moderate Wounds and try to touch you. Hits a 10 touch attack, and deals 10 damage (or 11 if divine favor counts--does an inflict spell count as a "weapon"? I assume so). Anyway, I assume that misses, so if I'm still alive and I want to use the charge from the spell on the next round, do I keep the same damage or reroll?

Arbiter:
5ft step to H/I-12/13. Move action to recreate image. Free to drop axe. Standard to cast Inflict Moderate Wounds (sub out Hold Person). Touch Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Negative Energy damage 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 3 = 10 Aid Rounds (19/30), Bull's Strength (22/30), Deathwatch (93/100), Divine Favor (4/10), Enlarge Person (5/10), Shield of Faith (6/10), Mirror Image rounds remaining (3/3), Mirror Image uses remaining (5/7), Channels Remaining (2/4), down 5 HP

I'm not the arbiter, but RAW you'd reroll (Actually you wouldn't have rolled in the first place unless you actually hit me. We're rolling ahead of time for PBP convenience, not the rules) and spells don't count as weapon attacks.

Gotta go to work, but I'll post when I get home in a few hours.

Thread bump

Whoops! Forgot.

Round 13

Boe steps after the dwarf and swings her hammer at him again.

Arbiter:

5' up.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Move east one squre to H10, 16 to hit. Didn't bother rolling damage. Is that within 5 of your AC? (for the figment)

No worries. Also, you're actually in H11 if you move to the right, as I'm in H/I-12/13. The figment remains.

Round 13

Faust parries the attack easily, then backs up and strikes with dark energy before drawing a huge pick.

5 ft move to H/I-13/14. Touch attack again is 18 for 10 damage. Then draw heavy pick. Don't forget, let me know if you're below 4 HP.

Arbiter:
5 ft move to H/I-13/14. Standard to touch again with inflict mod wounds. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18. Damage 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4) + 3 = 10. Move action: Draw Pick. Aid Rounds (18/30), Bull's Strength (21/30), Deathwatch (92/100), Divine Favor (3/10), Enlarge Person (4/10), Shield of Faith (5/10), Mirror Image rounds remaining (2/3), Mirror Image uses remaining (5/7), Channels Remaining (2/4), down 5 HP

Boe explodes.

I am teh dedz. Actually not, but I don't want to fight anymore. That attack puts me at 7 HP, and there's basically no chance of me beating you at this point. Good job! :)

Good game! Thanks for being a good sport despite Faust's cowardly tactics. He's gotta stay alive to spread the good word of Asmodeus, you know? ;-)
