5/5 RPG Superstar 2012 Top 4

Congratulations to Michael Eshleman for earning his 4th GM star! All but four of his GM credits were earned within the past 8 months as seen here. What's more impressive is that he participated in RPG Superstar 2013 and made it to top 8 during this time period.

Thanks everybody! I'm slowing the pace down a bit so that I don't burn out so I'll probably hit 150 GM credits next year some time. Though I am running eight slots at Gen Con, and five slots at Dragon*Con, and who knows how many slots at the game store where I organize. It might happen sooner than I think! :)

Awesome news!
So, Michael, what happened in November last year that made the GMing bug bite so hard?

My enjoyment with LFR was seriously waning and I had basically taken the summer as a hiatus from organized play. I went to a local convention and decided to play PFS (which I had done with friends off and on since 2010). That was when I decided to go all in. I felt that I was a good GM and wanted my star rating to reflect it (I didn't run games all those years in various organized play campaigns for nothing! I also sort of wanted the feel of my old RPGA Grand Master judge rating... :) Around that time I entered RPG Superstar on somewhat of a lark and was amazed at how far I progressed. Things sort of spiraled out of control from there. I set myself a pace that I thought would get me four stars before Dragon*Con (which would allow me to run the EX scenarios, as I was planning to try to get to five stars sometime in 2014). The organizer at my local game store asked me if I wanted to take over for him, I started running games at other nearby game stores (which I have stepped back from for the foreseeable future), and decided to organize a Year of the Shadow Lodge event at my local game store. Around that time Steve Miller promoted me to Venture-Lieutenant.

TLDR: star envy ;-)
