So after a few interesting rolls from the Ultimate Campaign background generator, I realized one of my players is in a position to be a good friend (potential lover if not for the jackass that impregnated and abandoned her) of Nualia (the fire happened only 5 years prior to the start of the AP right?)
No doubt this old friend would want to attempt to save his childhood friend from going down a road she can't turn back from when he learns of it (the monster transformation), given that he would have been the only person to show her kindness before she 'died' what kind of diplomacy check would get her to start thinking? (And potentially start the long road to redemption)
Side note: would there be any feasible way to reverse Lamashtu's transformation that has already taken hold?

In my old campaign, I introduced a ritual that was offered by a cleric of Cayden Cailean (Freedom)... but the requirement was that the recipient had to be truly repentant. It was kind of like a 2 hour casting of atonement.
What my players had done is spend 8 hours a day while she was being held in the jail cell at Sandpoint's Garrison, trying to get through to her. It was starting to work until the presented her with the symbol of Desna. Then they had to start all over again.
I would make them make Diplomacy checks to change her from Hostile to Friendly first. Give them circumstance bonuses based on what is said or done. Failure by 5 or more may slip her back in the wrong direction.
Try that. As I am re-running a sort of Time Paradox/Alternate Reality Rise, I will be making more of an effort to use the rules in this manner.

It may not be ideal, but Nualia herself chopping off her demon arm in a fit of conflicted horror and rage after her friend manages to get through to her could be an effective and visceral way to demonstrate that not only is there some hope for her but also that she still has a head full of crazy.

Nothing a regeneration spell can't fix! Except the crazy....and the high probability that regen would just regrow the demon arm >_>

Actually... would the regeneration regrow a demon from her arm? ;)
Now THAT would be an amusing twist. Have the arm scamper off when they're not looking... and grow into a demonic version of Nualia. The half-fiend she originally wanted to be.
...and the defeat this demonic version of herself meets the approval of one of the gods, who then restores her.
Works for me...

Ha! You could have a shadowed doppelganger of her. Would definitely be creepy.
My Nualia is either going to be shipped off to Habe's Sanatorium, Magnimar Prison or Sandpoint's Garrison. I'll find out on Sunday when we next play!
In the RoTRL game I'm playing, my character is pushing pretty hard to have her become a 'ward' of the Windsong Abbey.
Basically have her atone for her deeds by assuming the role her Adopted Father wanted for her...Just not as a Priestess of the Deity he originally intended.

Actually, I just thought of something that would truly be twisted... have the PCs learn (through visions or the like) of Nualia's ritual to become a half-fiend. If they intervene, while half-fiend Nualia escapes, they rescue a white-haired infant girl that embodies her remaining innocence that she was to sacrifice.
As an extra twist, the infant has one lock of dark red hair. Just as half-field Nualia still has a few strands of silver hair remaining.
