I'd like to determine how much interest there would be in a miniatures painting contest at PaizoCon.
* You wouldn't have to paint it on-site, you could bring a finished mini from home.
* I'd want a category for kids (age 12 and under) so they don't have to compete with painters who have years of experience.
* I'm in the process of wrangling several miniatures companies as sponsors if there is enough interest in a painting contest at the show.
* We'd probably have several other categories, perhaps tied to the sponsors. So if Reaper is a sponsor, "Best painted Reaper miniature" would be a category. And, because it's Paizo, "best goblin miniature" would probably be a category.
Would you be interested in participating in such a contest?
Any other suggestions or concerns about such a contest?
(All entrants get to KEEP their submitted minis, of course!)
This would be my first time organizing such a thing and I don't want to get in over my head, but I also don't want to organize it if only 5 people would want to enter minis for the contest.

I am medicore at best but it sounds like fun.
Would it be possible to have a category called something like: "I know I'm not really competition quality so grade me on a curve." It might encourage not-great level painters to compete since they wouldn't be up against master level painters. Similar concept to your ages 12 and under category.
*still waiting patiently on his Bones to come in*

Any word on this? Next Saturday I am on the road for 3 weeks, ending at PaizoCon, so I need to pack what I'm taking to PaizoCon by next Saturday.
1. Is it going to happen? (I don't want to pack more than I need!)
2. What categories?
3. How many entries per category?
Just got back into painting and it would be fun to compete (and learn from all the better painters!)

Well, I think the last-minute nature of this idea has caught miniatures companies unprepared for additional con support for a painting contest at PaizoCon, and I'd rather not have people risk damaging their lovely minis for no prizes, so it's not going to happen this year. BUT I will note that there is interest and plan ahead for it at PaizoCon 2014.
Thanks!

Thanks. At least I won't have to travel with extra minis this year! Definitely something for the future! (and maybe add terrain, casting, drawing, ... would be cool for everyone to share)
