Hey Adam! It looks like I made you thread popular! :) Somewhat. Anyways...

What does it mean exactly when you design a monster? Also what does your monster design process look like?

Are any other regions of Golarion in the same "nothing nailed down but ____ is the person to touch base with" category as Arcadia?

What I mean by designing a monster is coming up with the concept, making the stats, and writing the flavor text. My process is touched on in this thread I made a couple of years ago.

I'd say each of the authors for the separate sections in Distant Shores have their mark on those areas. To add to that, I know that Jessica has her sights set on Kelesh after writing the Qadira book.

Hey Adam! Can you say some variation of "hi" to me?

What are you doing for Halloween this year?

Are divs and sahkils based on any real world mythologies?

Did Aroden die by a Flumph eating him?

Sure! Howdy!

I'm not totally sure yet what I'm doing for the actual day. I'm going to work, but after that I have no plans. I wish I did because I used to consider Halloween a sacred holiday, but my celebration of it since I've moved up here has been lackluster.

Look to Zoroastrianism for divs, but sahkils are totally new things that Wes, John, and myself came up with.

He did not.

How did you come up with the name Sahkil?

It's a Yucatec word for fear. Wes originally wanted them to be called xibalbans, but I wanted to reserve Xibalba, so I presented sahkil as a replacement and we all liked it.

<Insert how to say hi in Yucatec here> Adam! You should dress up as a sahkil for Halloween and scare your fellow employees. Then at night you can go around terrifying trick or treaters!

Where do you look to find and learn about interesting mythological creatures that you can use in pathfinder?

Are there any good or better than good Paizo adventures that contain flumphs?

Where any flumphs involved in Aroden's death?

It would be cool to costume as a sahkil, but that's way beyond my skills. It'd be delightfully creepy.

I've been into mythology since I was a kid, so I've encountered folklore creatures in a lot of different places. Books on particular cultures are great for that, as well as books on monsters and legends. There are some good creature blogs that keep serving me things I've never heard about, and there are some other monster fanatics here on the boards that are great at introducing me to critters I've never heard of.

I can't think of any adventures we've done that have had a flumph in them, so no.

Flumphs were not involved.

Happy Halloween Adam! Hope your Halloween is spook-tacular! Time for some obligatory Halloween questions!

What is your favorite candy?

Favorite costume you've worn?

What is your favorite thing about Halloween?

And finally would you share a Halloween story?

I'm bad at picking favorites, so I'll just say the first one to come to mind. I really like Take 5 candy bars.

My favorite costume might be the year I went as a goblin. (Not a Pathfinder goblin, it was much more like Blix from Legend.)

My favorite thing about Halloween is all the creepy stuff everywhere. I love that all kinds of places and things are decorated with skulls and bats and stuff like that. I also like that you get candy and that people dress up.

One Halloween exactly 10 years ago I officiated my best friend's wedding and we were all dressed up. It was a great night.

Glad to be of service! (That was about a year and a half before I was an employee!)

The most memorable wasn't a Pathfinder session (it was D&D 3.5), but I think that I can claim it anyway on a technicality. The session was when my friend Brandon Hodge ran an adventure he wrote that one day would become the module House on Hook Street.

Sure. *fistbump*

My Halloween was pretty uneventful.

Here are a few creature blogs. The first one even has a list of books. Creatures of Folklore and Mythology, Critter Compendium, and A Book of Creatures.

He did not.

Neither. I use roux and time. I do add okra sometimes, but not for the purposes of thickening anything. I only use filé on my gumbo once it's in the bowl.

So would a Paladin flumph be able to wield weapons or would it have to rely on its tentacles.
I plan on adding one as an NPC to Skull and Shackles and weapons would make it more threatening

I don't know if we've ever said if they can wield weapons in their tentacles, but I'd run with what's most fun. Their tentacles aren't a natural attack, though. Their sting is.

I'm alright. It's Friday and things have been going pretty well at work today. I'm not up to unraveling time and space.

Like, the whole company? I only know a few people there, but those I know I quite like. :)

A mind flayer did not kill Aroden. They don't even exist in Golarion.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of things, but the first two things that popped in my head were the new fear optional rule and the expansion on haunts. The hazards and stuff like that are rad too.

Mechanically it would work pretty well, but I'm not sure story-wise. I mean, if you want to be activated by your ancient masters, sure. Go for it. ;) Seriously, though, I haven't written the Player's Guide yet, so my real thoughts will be presented there. One hurdle you'd have to get over would be explaining how a gillman became part of an expedition sailing out of Almas.

Regarding the Sahkils, I have a few questions. Their SQ sections include a few key terms I haven't been able to find meanings for, including: "easy to call", "Emotional Focus", and "skip between". Could you please describe these abilities, or point me in the right direction to find their meanings?

I'm not Adam Daigle, but I might suggest taking a look at the sahkil subtype.

Luthorne is correct. Those three abilities are all part of the sahkil subtype, which are described on page 308 of Bestiary 5 (or in that handy link).

Now go forth and scare people! :)

Awesome, thank you! Even having looked at the PRD link, I can't find a similar page on the PFSRD, which is where I was searching before.

Also, your CR 20 baddie is currently featured on The Daily Bestiary which is what piqued my interest.

Paizo Employee Developer

Patchen does a great job with that blog, and I'm glad it grabbed your interest! I always love when he covers one of the monsters I've done.

And, you can find all the creature types and subtypes on the PRD if you expand the Bestiaries on the left side and then click on Creature Types. From there you can scroll or search within the page. (Or just use the search bar at the top.)

Edit: Oh, after hitting "post" I realized that you said PFSRD. I'm not sure how that site is organized. I don't use it since they have to change the names of things, so it isn't as reliable for me. From poking around a bit, it looks like that subtype hasn't been added to the site.

Strange Aeons SPOILERS!:
Assuming the PCs are ultimately successful and prevent Thrushmoor from being absorbed by Carcosa and whatnot, what happens to the County of Versex afterwards? I don't think Haserton Lowls IV has any heirs who could fill the resulting power vacuum, especially considering he basically abdicated when he ran off in search of the Necronomicon. Does he have a will of any kind?
