A question about the hospitaler archetype

Advice

Liberty's Edge

Before I forget, I'd like to note this would be for PFS.

Let's say that someone with this archetype takes the feats Extra Channel, and Extra Lay on Hands.

If you take Extra Channel as a paladin, there is a little something extra mentioned with the feat: Special: If a paladin with the ability to channel positive energy takes this feat, she can use lay on hands four additional times a day, but only to channel positive energy.

The hospitaler archetype doesn't require uses of Lay on Hands to channel energy, would a paladin taking this feat just get an extra 4 lay on hands?

Liberty's Edge

I like the idea of being able to take Extra Channel as a paladin and get an extra 4 uses of LoH but totally understand if it doesn't work. I think this might be an issue of rules as written and rules as intended, but I might also be missing a piece of information from a different location too. The clarification would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Liberty's Edge

It seems to me that it wouldn't. Still hoping someone can confirm this suspicion.

Check with your PFS GM. Since the hospitaler has both class features but powers them from a separate pool of uses, I would personally allow you to have a floating pool that can be used by either, but another GM may require you to use Lay on Hands, or perhaps require you to choose one or the other. So again, check with your PFS GM.

I will do that, but the bigger question is whether or not this is possible from a mechanical standpoint.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A Hospitaler doesn't fuel her Channel Energy with her LoH. You get the straight 2 extra uses of CE. The exception in the feat's special note gives a pally 4 extra LoH uses, but only for channeling energy - and a regular pally expends 2 uses of LoH to CE - because not having a CE pool would make the feat useless otherwise.

Now, if you had a seperate class that also contained the Channel Energy class feature you would have a floating '2 uses' to be applied to either feature.Source
