"Okay, so I confirmed . . . how many hp do you have left?
I think gamers who understand confirming critical attacks will appreciate the story.

Dang! If only he had a first aid kit (healer's kit) nearby, was trained in the heal skill, and could have made a DC 15 heal check, he could have lived!!! I guess this lets us know we should never underestimate the inherent value in a 10 use healer's kit and a few ranks in the heal skill. You never know when it may save your life.
Edit: Of course he would have had to kill the beaver first. Which is another reminder that you should never split the party!

I wasn't making fun. I was marveling at his unfortunate luck. The fact that the entire situation can be mapped out using RPG terms and rules was just part and parcel of the story being placed on a messageboard forum on an RPG publisher's website. My condolences go out to family and friends, but it doesn't change the fact that it creates a serious real-world reference to a game mechanic.

The guy got bitten to death by a beaver.
Yes, I'm making fun of it.
If I get chewed to death by an herbivore, I hope someone will mock that situation as well.
And when I get home tonight and share the story with my wife, I'm going to say "Honey, you know that beaver we have living in our lake? If something should happen . . . please post the video on YouTube."
Yes, I have a beaver living in my lake. Used to be four.

I wonder what the beaver will do with the xp. Also, if his wife had gotten him a better camera instead of a new kitchen, he would not have needed to go within charging distance.
That said... it is tragic. But animals are not typically dangerous if you know how to behave near them. The beaver looks very angry, and I would have left it alone. Hell, I gave room to a spitting- and hopping-mad lemming who was angry I was going to pass his section of the road. He was three inches tall or so. I walked around him a few steps. I am sure he loved rolling that 20 for Intimidate.

It's a bad way to go.
