Recruitment

101 to 113 of 113 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

I have added the background and rebuilt Conner as a straight Ranger Skirmisher. I will, of course, repost when the actual recruitment thread opens.

Well it seems to be just the right time for Sarenrae's Paladin to do what they do best... Save a baby Goblin!

But not just any baby goblin, A baby goblin who is Deaf, and latter learns to channel her patron's affinity for fire! :D

Looks solid, Conner. And interesting idea, Shoelace.

I'm still planning to have the official Recruitment thread up tomorrow.

*Goes off to respond to more PMs*

How do you feel about Wordcasters in your game Yorick? I've always been interested in it but haven't been able to try it out in my RL campaign (parallel worlds, two characters, you know how it goes) ;)

I can't speak from experience because I've never tried one, but from what I've seen, it looks in theory like a direction that I've wanted to see magic to go in for years: The ability to create your own spells with a determined cost.

I love this in the sense that it makes magic more versatile, and it requires the caster to think about what they actually want to do. Instead of "Oh let me look at my spell list and choose what does the most damage", it's "Oh let me see what crazy thing I can cook up." It feels more like what magic SHOULD be, to me.

Now at the same time, I generally don't care for Sorcerers and Wizards because they often have an unending number of ways to get away from my traps, and they're generally able to just replace any other party member.

I think there should be some things that are specialized with classes, which I think Wordcasting gets even further away from. It also seems like it would require a lot of bookkeeping, but I suppose that's less of a problem in this kind of playing format.

Yeah, I'd be open to the idea, if only to see how it actually plays out. It's a system that I really want to like.

Then I will do my best to make it a system you like ;)

As for replacing other characters, Word casting does grant you a large amount of flexibility, but at the cost of a much more limited "spell" list. I think the #1 example of this is that there is no form of Telekinesis that I have been able to find in the Word system.

Summon Monster (which is used fairly often in my group to make walls of meat, which is a great tactic, but makes playing a fighter rather boring) is also reduced to 1/cast unless you boost the "Selected" target word, which increases it's level significantly.

It seems like an arcane caster is what's missing the most, I'll try and have something for you to look at later tonight or tomorrow :)

I'm working up specific crunch and backstory right now. Here's what I have so far.

:

Edgar "Ripper" Ripley (Human Fighter 1/Cloistered Cleric 4)

No one knows much about the librarian. Truth told, Edgar couldn't give too many specific details if he wanted to. He had no real memory of where he was from. His earliest memory is of his village being raided by marauders. Those who weren't killed were taken as slaves. That included Edgar.

As the marauders went from city to city, selling their prisoners in underworld auctions, Edgar was one of the few who was never bought. The reason was a limp in his right leg that made him useless for labor. Thus it was decided to put the boy to death, but when the brigand went into the slave tent to murder the boy he found his hands full with a young man who would fight tooth and nail for his own survival.

As it became clear that his viciousness far outweighed his handicap, the marauders saw fit to train the boy to be one of their own. He eventually trained himself to be rather quick for a cripple, and stout to boot. He became known as one of the band's more vicious fighters, earning the nickname "Ripper" for the way he ripped his enemies apart. But the Ripper wasn't loyal to the band at all. He hated them, still remembering his days in chains. So one night, he stole away from the camp, taking only his halberd and what he needed to escape. He left behind him a note that said "I'm leaving, and I swear there is nothing to gain in coming after me."

He found a temple of Iomedae and pleaded asylum. In time, he was taken into the church, where he worked as a book keeper. As his knowledge grew he was asked to go act as a missionary for his god.

Which has brought him here today. The humble librarian who carries a holy symbol in one hand and a book in the other.

I think the "Hometown destroyed by marauders" angle is good motivation for an RHOD character.

If you would prefer i stay away from the Words of Power, I've had my eye on attempting to build an Enchantress (Changeling Witch).

Or maybe Aasimar... they have a chance to make interesting Enchantress physical appearances with the new d100 system for random appearance factors.

Any of the "beautiful" races really.

DK - that definitely looks solid.

No no, I said I was interested in it, if you want to give it a shot. If you'd rather do something else, that's totally fine, too.

Was going to set the thread up this morning, but I forgot to email myself the damned map. I'll put it up when I get home tonight (~10 hours from now). If anyone wants to send backgrounds to be checked out in the meantime, I'll have some free time, since I was expecting to have an entire thread to monitor >_>

Annnnd Recruitment thread is up! For anyone who is specifically monitoring this thread and hasn't seen it.
