I think I am going to go with what ever Jiggy thinks. It seems to me that he has a handle on what is generally accepted as overpowered or underpowered, should be allowed or disallowed.

hello again.

you know my wolf. You've seen it in action.

thats exactly how it works.

except the master isnt religious. The wolf is however. The wolf found the halfling religion.

I'm not exactly strict when it comes to animal companions, but I don't think that the wolf meets the requirements for the trait.

Hey! What do you have against me, you Norse Supremacist!

Trust me, god worship doesn't go well for us. I got tied to a rock for all eternity and all i got was this lousy hand!

WWJB?

(What would Jiggy ban?)

Since Chaldira is NG, and (most?) Animal Companions are N, any critter with an Intelligence of 3+ qualifies for the Additional Traits feat, and thusly any Religion Trait for CN, LN, N, NE, and NG deities.

You need both the appropriate alignment and being the follower of that religion. Given the FAQ from the devs that indicate that even a 20 Intelligence animal with tongues requires Handle Animal to get it to do tricks, combined with the ironclad PFS clarification from Mike and John that animal companions can never count as being a member of a faction for any purposes, I can't see it as being OK to assume you can count the animal as a member of a religion. Eidolons could do it for certain.

So would there be limitations to the traits that an animal companion would gain access to, such as becoming a princess or coming from a port city as a rooftop runner.

Faith traits are (afaik) the only ones that have actual requirements on them. (being a member of the faith)

All right, a Paladin pony that has the Shoanti Steed trait. Proficient with Earth Breakers, has its own pony. Horseception!

I'd think that a Paladin's mount would be able to take a Religion Trait via Additional Traits.

Shh... There's a conspiracy against animals. Trust me on this!

Actually I don't think they can, though I'd love to see a horse praise Saranrae in the streets for some reason. Totally worth it!

Given the (at least 2 in this thread) number of people that have given their companions this trait already it would seem we should find out if it's legal to do so.

The trait doesn't seem unbalancing to me. In a typical PFS game a character can use it only once and has no guarantee that it will work.

Shadow Lodge

Already made it to 12, so doesnt really matter to me.

also, my wolf got to use it less than 3 times (maybe even just once. not sure)

Its about as overpowered as a free reroll while wearing a Paizo t-shirt with all the limitations of only usable on a saving throw. Its not so strong that would even warrant a banning.

So... We should ban shirts? I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Might be cold without them.

No shirts, no dice, no service.

I like to have a BYOD policy. Bring Your Own Dice.

I saw this trait in the wild for the first time the other day. I told the player using it that I was familiar with it because of this thread. He said that this thread was where he had learned about it in the first place.

Just FYI.

1/5

Same here. First time I saw it was a result of this thread as well.

Heh. I knew that would happen.

Its like putting something on the list of banned books...

I didn't know about it until this thread either. If only I could retrain my halfling rogue's trait...

Yeah the more you talk about something on this board, the more often you see it somewhere....

So, next time you don´t want to see something, don´t tell anyone^^

^ Wise words for the original poster.

I'm not gonna lie, I just bought the "Halfling Outrider" D&D mini and am making a Halfling Sohei that worships Chaldira. The notion of charging into battle atop your trusty dog seems to fit the philosophy.

Oh, but this is exactly what I was going for. Soon the powers to be have to ban the trait, or the Society is going to be ran over by Chaldira worshippers! *muahaha*

Halflings will take over Golarion at some point anyway, so don´t worry about that. It will be a holy duality with Thamir Gixx and Chaldira then.

..it's a 1/day re-roll, hardly worth 7 pages of comments...

It's not game-breaking really.

also.

Halfling's Rule! that is all.

Grand Lodge 3/5

I have to admit, that I probably would never have known about this trait except for this thread. I can't imagine making a halfling character and not giving them this trait, but I probably won't be giving it to many non-halflings. (OK I'll probably be giving it to my next aasimar too)

I can't really imagine anyone complaining that it's overpowered in game because, in the end, it's only a defensive ability.

You should be worried about having to install all of those extra large pews for the influx of non halfling worshipers then :)
