Oracle Spell Question

Rules Questions

Im in the process of making a 6th level Oracle with the Dark Tapestry Mystery.

At 6th level I get to add Tongues to my spell list. However an Oracle can not cast 4th level spells until 8th level.

Whats the point of getting to add a spell that I cant cast for another 2 levels?

You get it as a 3rd levl spell.

Sleet, that's not stated anywhere that I can find.

While it is a 4th level Oracle/Cleric spell, it's 3rd level Sorcerer/Wizard spell. Oracle often dips outside of their default spell list. So the bonus spells that you get at specific levels you get regardless of what level you'd normally get them, or the fact that they're not even at your spell list. It's a 3rd level spell.

True, (at least I think so; this has come up in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lead designer has spoken on this) but I believe it is in fact a 3rd level spell for Dark Tapestry Oracles. Just as an Oracle of Life gets mass heal as an 8th level spell.

If you get a Mystery spell at 6th level then its a 3rd level spell, not matter what spell level it would otherwise be. Same with bloodline and domain spells.

I think Sleet is correct. I will see if I can find the supporting text.

Nevermind. I was thinking of SLA's. I think the spells work the same way, but it does deserve an FAQ.

Is the aquatic sorcerer bloodline (Advanced Players Guide, page 136) supposed to get geyser as a bonus spell at sorcerer level 9, even though that’s normally a 5th-level sorcerer/wizard spell and unavailable to sorcerers before caster level 10?

Yes, and the sorcerer learns it as a 4th-level spell. Note that geyser is also a 4th-level druid spell (available at character level 7), so the aquatic sorcerer gaining it at character level 9 as a 4th-level arcane spell isn’t too powerful.

Thanks...

3rd level it is then. Thanks to everyone for the insight. Makes much more sense now.

They do this over the entire scope of the Mysteries. Have some fun: go look at the Mystery Spells for Oracles of Lore!

They don't say anywhere that the listed spells are appropriate level for the level at which they're gained... I've just been assuming it for my home games (don't OP) and it hasn't broken anything yet.

Kinda irritating, but that's life...
