Ok, there. Down to me last coppers, but this knight is ready to adventure!

Looks good to me!

Things to note for you other fellows, the races available to play are going to be the "core" races. That is; Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Half-Elves, Halflings, Half-orcs, and Humans.

As for your builds, everything that is first-party Paizo and viewable on d20PFSRD is fair game. But no sampling from third-party rule books at all.

The world (the WIDE world :D) you populate is a traditional Pathfinder world, similar to the one laid out in the core rule book. As such you can expect to encounter people and enemies of all persuasions. Obviously some will necessarily be met with less frequency than others. But the usual gamut and spectrum will indeed apply.

You will begin the game in the Port of Ilan (Bottom right of the map), you may choose how you arrived there and how long you've been in town. Just let me know in Discussion before we get going. Ilan is a small city on the southern coast of The Denmal Empire. The Empire is made up primarily of Humans, though there are significant populations of dwarves, half-lings, and some half-elves. Though seeing an Elven citizen of the Empire is not unheard of they ARE less common as most of them tend to live in The Land of Areberan.

Gnomes are also citizens of the Empire, but they tend to stay together in communities in the North. There is an Orcish Kingdom (well, technically it's something else, but you can't know that yet) that is adjacent to the Empire, separated by a range of mountains. Though there has been war in the past with the Orcs, at the moment there is an un-easy peace that has been in place the last 22 years.

I think that should cover things for the moment, though if you have any questions just post them here and I'll decide if they should be answered.

Can't wait to get started!

Do dwarves tend to congregate in certain cities, or do they mingle pretty well with the humans, halflings, and half-elves? Half-orcs are generally ostracized, yes?

There are dwarven cities but predominately they do indeed 'mingle' well. Your typical Denmal city would probably have a population something like 40% Human, 25% Dwarven, 15% Halfling, the remaining 20% are a mix of Gnomes, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs and a few Elves. There are even trace amounts of Hob Goblins in some communities, though they have to work hard to overcome the distrust naturally associated with them.

There IS some racism towards Half-Orcs, but it's no more than that shown towards Half-Elves. That is to say that the distrust and fear is mostly prevalent in the older generations, while younger citizens tend to accept people on individual merits.

Half-Elves and Full Elves are in the same boat due to tensions with The Land of Arberan. Though there hasn't yet been war between the two great nations, some feel it's only a matter of time before the Empire and the Elves of Arberan are at each others throats.

Does this answer your question?

His patchwork cloak groping at him like an unwanted paramour, Fizkin Noblejinx roves about spending his parents money on frivolous pleasures. Now at the end of his fortune, Fizkin looks to put his charms and tricksiness to work to keep himself in wine and company.

Prepare to defeat awkwardness with Maximum Ridiculosity! (a.k.a I made a gnome.)

Hahah! Awesome, I was hoping for something like this! Looks like "Team Liddleguys" is almost ready. :D

'm looking at playing a Dwarf Inquisitor - Would it be ok if I used a Domain?

  • Yeah that's fine, I believe Domains are a part of the default Inquisitor "kit".

What Deity are you thinking of?

    Abadar - Lawful Neutral inquisitor.

Hmmm, interesting choice for an Inquisitor. But I have no objections. The Domains you can choose from are:

    Earth
    Law
    Nobility
    Protection and
    Travel

Derp. Sorry about selecting the wrong alias, my bad. Mind checking over this character to make sure everything looks good?

  • Looks pretty good Bane-Edge, but I thought Inquisitors only got 6 skill points per level plus INT modifiers? It looks like you've put ranks into about 9 skills? Assuming you used Favored class bonus for an extra skill point, that still leaves 2 unaccounted for.

Unless I'm missing some bonus or something?

    Male Thelkonlander Broracle of Lifts 9 | HP: 104/104 | +15/+8 2d4+14 | AC:26 T:15 F:22

Nope, I only allocated 7. Bluff, Disguise, Heal, Knowledge (Arcana) Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft. My survival is +4 without training, and I'm not sure what else you're seeing that looks trained.

I'm seeing: Bluff, Diplomacy (Instead of disguise I assume?), Heal, Knowledge (Arcana), Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Survival.

But with the built in survival it looks right. The derp was definitely on my end, every time I read through them I was coming up with a different number. Heh, thanks for clearing it up for me.

Just looks like we're waiting on one, maybe two more and we'll be ready!

    I excite.

Does anyone have recommendations on avoiding posting with the wrong alias? Is it possible to set defaults for particular threads? Aaaaaaargh.

Yeah, the survival threw me off as well. I used Hero Labs, so it's possible it's got a glitch somewhere - anyone else using Hero Labs able to confirm or deny?

I think the "Post As" field orders the aliases by the number of posts in a certain thread. But only sometimes. Paizo.com is wonderfully predictable.

Sorn - Looks good and seems a fitting backstory. Unfortunately I've slated the game for "ORCS, ORCS EVERYWHERE!" Sooo... goodluck.

Bane-Edge - Paizo boards aren't the best I agree, though I'm glad you weathered through it. I love reading back-stories and yours works well. Especially liked the bit about orderly pranking.

Looks like we're pretty much ready to go, I've got to check on one more thing before we start. To pass the time, do you want to post here in discussion the particulars of your chars arrival to, and time spent in, the Port of Ilan?

Tyro arrived a week and a half previous, having journeyed from the nearest dwarf settlement, and has been exploring the port since. He's developing a rudimentary familiarity with the seedier, more chaotic places. Also drinking a lot to blend in.

Fair enough, luckily in any battle situation, my character is prone to hurting more around orcs. In non-combat stuffs, he may just be quiet.

Sorn has been in the Port of Ilan for about five days to make any final preparations for his test. After about four days of prep, he has decided to spend the remaining time enjoying what the local taverns have to offer before beginning his journey.

Fizkin doesn't remember how he got to Port Ilan. By his hazy reckoning, he's been here 6 hours and he has a raging headache.

At least I must have had a good time, but I am low on money and I'm not sure what father would do if I went home for more...

Fizkin blinks the bleariness away, banishing it for mere seconds before it's reinforcements pour into the breach. In that space of time, he looks around for an inn, alehouse, pub, or bar: anyway to wash the hangover away.

Togril Emberforge ambles through the gates of Port Ilan, his scaled armor clinking as he adjusts his pack. He found the salty air a pleasant change from the black, dirty fumes of the hot bellows where he spent the last years of his adolescence. Three days since he traveled from the temple, three days since the ceremony granting him the rank of Apprentice, and already his hammer-arm ached to work with fire and metal. Perhaps here, I will find a smithy willing to let me earn my bread until a path is made clear.

    Profession (blacksmith)1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24, earned 12 gold pieces. That ok?

The newly knighted dwarf broods over a tankard of ale at the common room below the inn he stays. Though he earned some coin with his skill in the forge over the passed week, intending to purchase engraving tools, his compassion for the beggars he noticed overwhelmed his interest in trinkets. Another time, perhaps. The clay cup taps against the runic rings woven into the braids of his thick, nut-brown beard as he takes a long pull of the beer. Smacking and wiping the froth from his mustache, he gives an affirming nod to a patron who happened to look in his direction, probably to those with whom he shared the table. “Eat up, lads,” he heartily pats one of the three young street urchins on the back, “that stew won’t eat itself. I paid for a room for you three to share, best go up before folks here get too rowdy.”

He smiles warmly at a dirty-faced child who looked up from his wooden bowl. The fulfillment in helping these three mingled with disappointment, for Togril set out from his home ten days ago in hopes of finding a duty more challenging than watching younglings. The Father Creator was never a subtle god; the young Emberforge held confidence that when his true purpose came, there would be no denying it.

Go ahead, call me an ass for writing so much, I’m just SUPER excited to finally play a paladin. #noregrets #paladinswag

So, I know this is kind of a noobish question, but how much does food, drink, and (potentially) lodging cost at most inns? Not that I am worried about breaking the bank or anything, but I don't want to over or under pay.

Cost of stay usually includes a meal of comparable value. The worst inns serve the worst food, etc.

Out of curiosity, what language will we be using for Dwarvish?

Traditionally it's been up to the posters as which language to use. If y'all wanna settle on one particular language for continuity I'm fine with that. Though my one stipulation in regards to a personal pet peeve is; "Don't use a language that's easily recognizable." And by that I mean stuff like the Romanic languages and German and what not. I hate being able to tell roughly what you're saying without having to read the spoiler. Takes me right out of the story.

I don't think Finnish has Romantic roots (though a few might've been integrated since). If I'm remembering right, linguists don't know for sure where Finnish comes from [citation needed].

Herp derp. Earlier I said the docks were to the South East. That is because I am dumb. The docks are actually to the South West.
