Role play effects of Dragon DIsciple

Advice

hiya!

Partially a question on behalf of the party, and partially cause i'm considering a dip into this class myself. What are the role play effects of the dragon disciple class?

what i mean is - the level 10 wings are permanent right?... which is obviously going to sent the townsfolk running for the pitchforks and torches lol.

So what about changes at other levels, as i stack up those +1 natural armors does my skin get covered in scales for example?

any effects from the STR and CON should be easily bluffed off - "i've been training" *ninja pose* lol.

anyone with experience GMing or playing this class got any ideas on what the likely repercussions will be at different levels?

(for reference i'm considering a 6 level dip, my other party member is considering going the whole 10 levels but wants to role play at first being unaware of the changes - then not understanding them.)

thankyee!

It says you get the wings bloodline power, not that the wings become permanent.

So you only have the wings when you want to, unless you decide you can't figure how to put them back...

As far as the Natural Armor appearance, that is probably a GM call.

Seems like you already decided the RP effects of the DD Class, at least as it pertains to your character(s).

It's up to the GM top decide how the worlds NPCs will react.

It's seems like you have potential for some good hooks for adventures. Maybe finding secret societies or "people like us" type scenarios.

yeah we had considered that!

I guess for me since i'm not going "the whole hog" (or dragon in this case!), i could pick up a disguise kid to buff my disguise skill and "do my makeup" in the mornings. That could work till my claws come out lol!... although claws and bite are mostly going to be a backup option for me i think... nice way to surprise any NPC's who think they have me unarmed :P.

crowd reaction to a dragon disciple.

Ok well 1) do you guys play with any non core races? Some of them are quite weird! if youre running in a pack with an oread, dont worry about your character.
2) people in this game have been playing half orcs for decades

so it all relys on the GM.

Me? I play half orcs like they are seriously scary and people dont like them, they have trouble buying things from vednors unless it's in black market. they wander around in town with a hooded cloak most of the time.

For a dragon disciple I think the hooded cloak would be in order. But there is also Change/alter self and disguise skills. I mean by the time you are getting wings and stuff a little disguise spell for convenience is nothing.

side note - i've opted for Eldritch heritage instead of a class dip, lets me still advance my bardic bling :P

Our GM repsonded with "I donno, but in general the more you develope dragon traits the more obvious it becomes" *devious grin*

but he's a pretty kind GM so i dont think he would gimp our characters via role play or anything. I ran disguise and whatnot by him and he nodded approvingly and said that might be a good investment of skill points :P

What about changes to personality?

I can see the first change being "Snake like eyes" and perhaps a slight tinge in the color of your skin corresponding with your bloodline. Then you start to see how shiny your skin begins as you develop small scales... etc.

*nods*

for personality changes i'll be doing a bit of creative roleplay but i've also agreed somthing with my GM based on the insanity rules in the GM guide.

will save DC = 10 +1 for every DD level +4 if claws or breath used in the last 24 hrs.

doing this every "morning" and if i fail i role play being a bit more aggressive (although still "good"). We are also trying to come up with a list of scenarios where i have to make this save against loosing it under pressure (in which case i'll start throwing draconic abilities left right and centre lol)

It may take a bit longer than you have to spend, but 'The Rain Wilds Chronicles' by Robin Hobb has an interesting take on the DD in the form of Elderlings. Her 'Liveship Traders Trilogy' also has some information on them as well.

Scarab Sages

I'm actually playing a DD in a home brew right now. We based the fact that I'm part Dragon because of my acient heritage to Dragon Lords who "died out" centuries ago. It's been fun to role play because of my scaly skin, and the fact that no one has seen a dragon in over 200 years, so we said that even when my claws arent out, my nails are sharp and pointed, my hair fell out, and my skin is slowly covering with silvery scales. As for how we roleplay it, many people we meet are first suprized by what I look like. I'm very open about it, of course, this is because I am trying to re-kindle the Dragon Empire. It has some nice plot hooks in it. I think the main thing to concider when deciding who the character looks should be based on where it comes from. Mine for example is ancient blood, but if you were blessed by the Dragon God perhaps your skin is just becoming naturaly tough, without the scales, and you maintain much of your original appearance.
