Ok, while reading through the Round 2 submissions, I could not help putting together a class breakdown of all the Top 32 + 4 Alternates archetypes. With Paizo's kind permission, I'm posting it here.

The archetypes are these:

Alchemist = 4
Cavalier = 2
Druid = 2
Inquisitor = 3
Fighter = 2
Gunslinger = 1
Magus = 1
Monk = 3
Oracle = 1
Paladin = 2
Ranger = 7
Rogue = 5
Witch = 3

There are no submissions for the bard, cleric, sorcerer, summoner, or wizard. A full 10 of the archetypes are water-or-river themed (for obvious reasons, but still).

Thanks for the info, that is very interesting.

I think I'd be really bummed if I'd done one of the rangers, rogues or alchemists, since I think they're likely to be compared against each other before the other classes.

That's not to say multiples can't advance, but you have to first be the best of your class.

Excited to see some of the ones from classes I thought were harder, and especially the witches. I'm curious to see if anyone else was inspired by the same thing I was inspired by when I wrote up what ended up being my favorite archetype.

Curious also about the gunslinger. I think that took some guts, since my feeling is it's not the most popular class.

Facepalm.

If I made it to this round I had a Wizard Archetype and that would have stood out.

Kind of glad I didn't make it now, that would have been +1 ranger and +1 water AND +1 river themed ( yup - hit both in the same archetype I prepared - go me >.< )

Looking forward to these tomorrow, especially the gunslinger and oracle.

No summoners? Now I'm really bummed that my Dogs, Dogs, and More Dogs! summoner archetype wouldn't fit in the River Kingdoms. It would have been gold!

Other than the bard (which, already has a ton of archetypes, and 3 in Superstar 2011) the cleric, sorcerer, summoner, and wizard are about the hardest classes to create archetypes for. They just have the fewest abilities that are easily swappable. Oracle might be up there too. I'm not surprised they are under represented.

I'm actually pretty surprised about the lack of Bards. I feel like there's a lot of flavor opportunity there! But man-oh-man, I fear that before this is all through we will have a few dead Rangers and Rogues to dump in the river...

I am totally psyched to see what everyone has come up with. Next to the map round, I think round 2—"the idea round"—is my absolute favorite.

I'm looking forward to seeing those 36 archetypes!

I'd love to see a breakdown of theme or kingdom location, too. The certain kingdom if they are associated with one (such as "Artume" or "Daggermark"), or theme (such as "rivers" or "freedom") if universal for the whole area. I wonder what the overlap is there.

But it might be a bit too subjective to place them into categories, so I don't think they will do that. We will have to wait for tomorrow.

Mine was to be a Bard.

Perhaps we need an "Archetypes that weren't thread?"

Man, another year with an archetype round goes by and sorcerers still get no love.

I am a little surprised at the lack of bards; mainly because I view the contest through my own filter and for myself, whenever I'm brainstorming archetype ideas, bards are one of my main default classes. Like I won't even consciously be thinking I'm doing a bard until I have a few ideas for new abilities locked in and then I suddenly realize that it's (once again) a bard archetype. For me at least it's a class that just screams 'I am super customizable and I have a lot of class abilities to swap out!' (Druids are pretty much on the same level for me as well, though given that it's the river kingdoms I would have been shocked if they weren't represented.)

There usually is, normally of the form of "What would you have submitted for Round 2" - but please only after Round 2 discussions and votes are done out of respect to the current competitors.

I can imagine several different archetypes for Ranger that would nail the brief so perhaps it is not so clear-cut - the top 3 archetypes could all be rangers perhaps? I'm really hoping to see if one of the contestants has taken a risk with an Outsea-based archetype. I'm looking forward to seeing who has taken a risk in general and who has played it safe.

Best Regards

I'm really looking forward to round 2, constraining it to the river kingdoms should breed a lot of creative ideas. My brainstorming came up with the Doombreaker oracle, the Reclamation Druid, and the Danglosa's Lure bard... hm, maybe I should finish them and check out the homebrew forum.

Marathon Voter Season 6, Dedicated Voter Season 7, Marathon Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9 aka Clouds Without Water

Rangers are a bit obvious for this region, I guess, but with that many of them it's likely someone will knock it out of the park.

A frontier-like gunslinger seems a natural choice too. I'm most interested in seeing what that class did.

If I had made it to round two, my plan was to go with Inquisitor. I thought some interesting things could be done with that class and the River Kingdoms, so those are also on my want-to-see list.

Disappointed no one jumped on the hardest classes to archetype, but I can't really blame them.

I had a wizard idea I didn't use, but thematically I'm still happier with the one I went with. Even though it's falling into one of the more populous class archetypes. This is close to the breakdown I expected though so I went in hoping I'd just have a good enough original idea, even if it doesn't give love to the more overlooked classes.

I predict a gunslinger that can fire under water. I also have a good friend who would have submitted....a river-themed ranger. Bet he feels like it's just not his year. :(

Gunslingers can already fire underwater, they just need dry load cartridges.

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 6, Dedicated Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9 aka Steven T. Helt

Yeah, but I'm saying an underwater gunslinger with abilities tied to firing under water: any cartridge works, no penalties, lowlight vision while under water. Shooting holes in boats or skipping bullets off the surface of the water. Things like that.

I'm a little surprised by the unexpectedly large/small number of entries for the class I submitted for. Just 16.5 hours til all is revealed. Good luck, fellas!

Thanks Wolfie,
Looks like a lot of depth to the choices & I an excited by how far the 32 explored the field.

I think out wil be interesting to see how many abilities get repeated, regardless of class. :)

My primary might have avoided those traps, but it never got passed brainstorm phase.

Man I am going to have to get a lot done in the morning to make up for the time i'll not get anything done in the afternoon :)

I see 11 entries that probably share my design space - yay

On the other hand, it is very reasonable that we all pick up on the central theme(s) of the River Kingdoms and design something riffing off that theme.

What Sean said - If I had advanced, I would have submitted a bard archetype.

I'm about to start playing in the Kingmaker AP and I'm playing a Cleric (have asked the DM for a homebrew Archetype) and it turns out no one made a Cleric Archetype for the RPGSS :)

I could submit mine ... LOL

Looks like the vast majority are playing it safe with easy clases to archetype. Can't say I am surprised. I was hoping to be wowwed by a cleric, sorcerer, or wizard. And the gunslinger better sell it hard, because they aren't very widespread in Golarion.

I wonder what the four alternates submitted since they are included in this list and may not end up being a factor. It is a possibility that the bard, wizard, sorcerer, summoner, and cleric may be joined by another forlorn class. Maybe two.

Looking forward to the reveal. Round 2 is always the most surprising in some ways.

Some with middle-of-the-pack items will knock round 2 out of the park.

And there's always a couple who completely blow it.

And then there's a weird loopy entry that's actually kinda cool.

I'm hoping one of the rangers is an ally for civilized blink dogs.

The Hound Master from a couple years ago has 173 posts in its thread, and still gets comments hoping it becomes an official archetype. Will we have something that well liked and enduring this year?

Dedicated Voter Season 6

I can't wait for the reveal. I was having a lot of trouble pulling together an archetype in case I made the cut, but I had a paladin and a magus archetype in the works. I'm curious how similar the couple that will be representing those classes will be to the ideas I was playing with.

I'm curious how much Numerian flavor there's going to be. One of mine was VERY Numerian -- so much so that I wouldn't have submitted it because I was worried people would think it was more for that region than the River Kingdoms, though I thought it fit in with the challenge (though I also didn't like one aspect of the mechanics).

I think it's a polarizing area, but there could be some fun stuff with it.

I can take the fall as the person who totally failed to notice the lack of barbarian. Though apparently it took 40 posts for anyone else to notice either.

I suspect that they don't mesh up all that well with the River Kingdoms environment, but it would have been fun to see one.

I disagree about not meshing well with the River Kingdoms, you've got essentially a lawless land, where might makes right, and powerful, charismatic champions can rise to very powerful stations.

The Black Sovereign was a Kellid Barbarian and per the Golarion Lore there were quite a few Barbarian tribes living in Numeria.

But then, I think it's ok there isn't Barbarians as well, you've got some pretty amazing Barbarian Archetypes as it is, so you're up against tough competition.

Also, see Armag the Twice-Born and the Tiger Lords from Blood For Blood in the Kingmaker AP. There's a definite barbarian presence in the River Kingdoms. It just didn't necessarily get called out in the Guide to the River Kingdoms.

Most likely because the River Kingdom is the setting for the online game being set up, so they wanted to gin up some additional excitement or merely complement that.
