First off, I want to reach out to Andius and encourage you to never let external drama interfere with your commitment to do what you know is right. Also, I'm no stranger to having an idea I thought was great roundly criticized and dismissed. We may not completely understand each other's perspectives, but I've known you and seen you post here long enough to have no doubt whatsoever that you're sincere in your commitment to stand tall against the forces of griefy darkness. And I'm confident that most of the other guilds here feel the same way.

With respect to the threat posed by a group like the goons (about whom I know virtually nothing, so please don't get caught up on any mischaracterizations I make), I think Ryan has already committed to ensuring that the worst excesses of griefing will be stopped by the moderators. It seems then the only real threat we face is being zerged and losing all of our Settlements. And I think Ryan has given us the very tools we'll need to deal with that as well: Unit Combat.

Ryan has already told us that forces in formation should completely steamroll swarms of non-cohesive characters. Any group that tries to come in and destroy our settlements is going to have to invest enough in their characters to make them effective as units. As I understand it, that's kind of antithetical to making cheap zerg swarms.

We have long planned to drill side by side with you, and try to ensure that both of our guilds are prepared to face that kind of threat. I hope that Peace Through Vigilance, The First File, Pax Aeternum, and others are interested in doing so as well. If we're prepared to excel at Unit Combat - and The Seventh Veil is prepared to excel at every facet of gameplay - then we'll be prepared to deal with any threat that shows up later. And as long as we remember who our friends are, and don't allow misunderstandings and external drama to make us question their loyalty, we will overcome.

Well said. I could not agree more.

A shot in the dark: Alliances between many of the EE guilds would be a great start :)

Peace Through Vigilance can be counted on to do what is right, with in the confines of the system designed by GW. We will fight the good fight, collect the bounties on the griefers and do what we feel needs to be done.

On a more personal note, things got severely out of hand with the treaty and I hope everyone can look past their differences and in the future take time to talk with each other before resorting to insults, bashing, and false accusations.

Nihimon,

Thank you for having the grace to post this heartfelt message, knowing that by doing so in public may put you in the cross-hairs of less forgiving posters. Thank you also for reminding us all that mature players have compassion for one another, even when they strongly disagree.

To Darsch's point, with over a year to wait until the game we all hope to play is available, we have nothing but time to talk, to get to know each other better, and to build the player-to-player ties that will, to twist a phrase, forge this crowd into a dynamic, inclusive, and cohesive community. This goes beyond our characters, for they will hopefully react in-game as their alignment and role-played personalities dictate. Likewise, this extends even past our in-game guilds. At the heart of our success as a PFO community, whether to withstand external threats such as the Goons or internal strife such as erupted around the proposed treaty, is our ability to remember that the poster who has just raised your ire is still a fellow player and a human being. I think too often that we forget this fact from behind the safe confines of our monitors. If we all would show the same restraint that we would hopefully demonstrate if the target of our next forum reply were standing before us, we might then give pause to our impulse, take the time to consider what was meant past how it was said, and avoid adding fuel to the fire of a forum flame-war, the likes of which I have seen irrevocably damage whole gaming communities.

Does this mean we cannot disagree? Certainly not. Nihimon himself stated above, "We may not completely understand each other's perspectives," yet he was compassionate enough to reach out. By his example, we can at least attempt to respect a fellow player. Even in the case of extreme disagreement, we can choose to rise above the emotions of the moment and remember to be civil for the sake of the community, even if that means abstaining from making any comment at all.

More in the case of PFO than any other game, we make the game. Without one another - without the diversity of thoughts and characters and personalities - there would be no game. Let us remember the value of one another as we move towards launch, even when we are most tempted to forget it.

I bid you prosperity and peace,

Hobs

Oh of course. I was thinking Government EE Bonds somehow and was like, wait: what?

Goblin Squad Member

If any threats to the community evolve, on any end of the alignment spectrum, I have faith the community will react to contain them.

Goblin Squad Member

@Hobs the Short,

Much appreciated, and well said.

To both Nihimon and Hobbs

Hear Hear well said both of you!

If we could approach our topics like they were the road our carriage takes, and the sides of our conversations like a team of strong horses coursing to get us there, then we would be getting somewhere.

And we are.

Conversation at its best is dialog. Thesis wrestles with antithesis and if the participants are equally honest to discover the best outcome, the conversation will result in a synthesis advanced beyond what either side imagined.

I very seldom intend offense, yet too often give it.

p.s. Nihimon: Poetic title. Commendable spirit. Nicely done.

It's a line from The Bewlay Brothers by David Bowie. It struck me so much when I was listening to that album that I began using it in my Paladin's signature:

Quote:

Faith. Courage. Steel.

Intriguing. My Paladin's motto has been Standing Vigilant in the Night.

More to the point, I completely agree with the original post. Well said, and thanks to all for working in the spirit of co-operation. Long may it last!

As the newest member of the TEO council I would like to first say I'm honored to have the Veil as allies. If we weren't friends I would be very bored on Monday nights instead of guest spotting in Camlo's game. We are also all for running drills with you and any other guild that wishes to do so.

TEO can also be counted on to do the right by the community. We are a Good organization. If you ask us for help we WILL be there for you. To do what is right, especially when it is inconvenient, is what being good is to me.

That said, Darsch, if Andius starts to play on our TE minecraft server I totally welcome you to join to grief him with lava, TNT, and monster spawn eggs. Whatever it takes to satisfy your honor.

Goblin Squad Member

@Nihimon and Diella, thank you.

To all guilds that hope to begin the building of closer ties even before the game provides the need for alliances, I would encourage you to start spending time with one another now - not simply in discussion on the forums - but playing existing games. To share gaming experiences now will afford all of us the opportunity to truly know the caliber of our intended allies and friends, and thereby strengthen the trust that PFO alliances will require and sometimes test. Waiting to build meaningful and lasting relations in the heat of game launch, when each group is scrambling (perhaps even competing) for land and resources may be too late to truly establish the trust you would hope to have between allies. Why not start getting to know each other well while there is still nothing tangible to squabble over, and in so doing, help mitigate some of the squabble before it even happens?

With no game, no land, no need for treaties of alliance or trade yet existing, this would seem to be the good work that guild ambassadors could be doing while we wait.

In hopes for a more unified player community,

Hobs

Good idea Hobs.

If anyone would like to join a multi-guild lance or company for Mechwarrior Online I would be highly interested to be a part of that. Anyone else? Or are you too ashamed to see a Raven beat your Atlas in kills. :P

I would not grief him. As far as I am concerned a peaceful talk fixes everything. My first post in this thread was directed as much to myself as others :)

Thanks for the invite to come play mine craft, though I do not have it on my pc.

I would (my pilot is 'originaltibs', and my other pilot is named 'whack') but I'm pulling out of mechwarrior online until I finish my book.

I was pouring too much time into it, and without community warfare I wasn't getting enough back in exchange.

My self-imposed second draft deadline approacheth. Just a few months to go.

Goblin Squad Member

I have always said that I agreed with the anti griefing stance, and still do. I will also not allow any entity spoil or dominate PFO, without staunch resistance from myself or from The UnNamed Company.

My personal goal is for PFO to be a huge success. I would never had put hundreds of dollars down, if I didn't believe that, and I'm sure the same goes for all of the Kickstarters.

Goblin Squad Member

@ Bluddwolf

Thank you for the clarification of your position.

On an aside, I personally believe the RP community benefits from the presence of well played bandits like you and yours seem intent on playing. It gives all those caravan managers a reason to hire player guards. :)

Goblin Squad Member

@Darsch, Hey if you get it, the offer stands, griefing or no.

@Being, My pilot name is Waruko. I mainly pilot a ECM Raven, Jenner-D, SRM 6 "Shotgun" Catapult, and a Founder's Atlas.

I haven't played MWO in quite a while, I've been working on the beta for MW Tactics.

Has MWO become stable enough for play or is it still flavor of the month nerfs and rebalancing?

Goblin Squad Member

It can be but its not as bad as it was. ECM took Streak Cats out of the roster hardcore.

Goblin Squad Member

Six SRM6 still work pretty well. New Spider light is a marksman's challenge.

Since I don't play Mech Warrior, I will extend the same open offer for those in Guild Wars 2. Feel free to PM me for server and character names (I think I still have a lvl 12 Warrior and lvl 37 Guardian).

It occurs to me that GW and Paizo might not be thrilled with us organizing play dates for other games on their boards. I hope they see the wisdom of a PFO community finding ways not only to entertain ourselves during the year+ wait, but that we are attempting to strengthen the community by doing so. A year or more is a long time to wait for a game. By organizing hopeful PFO players with pre-PFO activities, I believe we are better our chance of keeping this player base from withering away due to dwindling patience and inactivity.

Not to mention the inadvertent hijacking of this thread.

I'm sure there are many ways, within these forums and perhaps in setting up Pathfinder RPG Gaming Groups, to not only support this community but also to support Paizo at the same time.

That would be a win for us, and a double win for Paizo!

as far as gaming groups go roll20.net is a Virtual tabletop available for free to those that want to run a pathfinder rpg table top game.

Goblin Squad Member

@ Bluddwolf, Its not technically hijacking when it serves the purpose of the thread. Community building despite BS drama. But if you think it would get some actually support I would be fine with a MWO thread for the sole purpose of forming a PFO company.

@ Being, What do you think my "Shotgun" Cat uses? ^______^

@ All, Regardless of what we play, or even IF we play anything, I hope we each make a effort to spend time with each other and not be isolationists in our own communities.

I had a great time talking with Darsch this evening and am glad I got him to download Mechwarrior. I can't wait to play a few rounds with him later on in the next few weeks.

Goblin Squad Member

When the day comes , I will be proud to fight alongside such friends and allies as have 'spoken' here!

ps
I'm Pinosaur in MWO as well; have AC 20, will travel !

I've a 67 Warrior on Emhry Bay along with a bunch of 20-30 sundry classes.

Hardly ever go in there any more.

Also have characters in LotRO including a 60-something hunter and a 54 Guardian, plus sundry alts. Loremaster in his 40s. Don't recall the server off hand.

Goblin Squad Member

Wow, Rift, Aion, Tera Online, Star Wars, Star Trek (none active atm)

MWO, MW Tactics (very early beta). Since I'm more of a battletech players vs. shooter type I prefer MW tactics but its still buggy.

Diablo III, Torchlight II (better of the two games imho)

And as you may have guessed from all the verbage under my name Pathfinder PnP.

Would love to do a PnP game with someone who knows the rules better then I do :-p

Dazyk rests his hand consolingly on Nihimon's shoulder, offering silent support; confident in the fact that his friend, and leader, did the right thing--and stayed true to himself.

The pair walk off into the setting sun in silence.

Ales are on me.

Mountains are rare and seem to be important. But what they produce is available elsewhere. What is required for settlements thy have major failings. THat is Andius point. those that follow, are ignoring that reality, thinking that someone else will provide. Yes at a cost. 10 BULK IRON for 1 BULK FOOD, FOB.

Daz... Don't give Lam any more ale... He's slurring ;)

Goblin Squad Member

Agreed. Lam, my good man, you are cut off! ;D

Goblin Squad Member

Friend Nihimon, would he be Andius otherwise? I feel it is better we have an authentic Andius following his valiant star than an unfamiliar Andius standing hollow in the dark.

Goblin Squad Member

Just for the lolz...

Fair winds to Andius. Perhaps when Star Citizen's alpha / beta is playable I'll jump in.
