I pretty much agree with Garrick here, I am not upset at all either! And I also wish I had started working on my archetype earlier, although I'm pretty happy with what I did submit in the end ^^. I'm having a blast here, and I already have a few concept ideas for my 2014 Item scribbled in a notebook or two, hoping to improve even further this year, I also have a list of 9-10 monster concepts just in case (I only really like like 3-4 of them, but you never now). I know my English still needs work, and I will be taking an advance course to get a proficiency certificate this summer, which I hope helps me in that area.

What I would really love though, Is to get feedback on my submission(s), so I can I correct what was wrong and work on that for the years to come. I will probably post my item in the 'critique my item' thread soon(after I'm done with studying for the day) and hope to get the community's feedback at some point. I'd also like to see what the judges said about my submission (I don't know if this is possible at all, or whom should I ask to get an answer on that), as I don't really have a problem with harsh criticism or feedback, on the contrary I find such criticism as long as it is objective, quite educational and worthy ^^.

Don't worry Curaigh this is an amazing event, whether you are Top32, an alternate or not, you win something, meet new people, make new friends that share a hobby, a dream, and a goal with you, and have a blast while doing so, you have so much of a blast here that once this is close to an end you already think about next year!. Paizo surely organizes one hell of a party every December here, and I thank them for that!!

Your command of written English puts many native speakers I know to shame, Giorgios.

The judges are usually good at providing feedback, though it may take some time to get through all the posts in the critique thread. Traffic tends to be heavy.

I worked on a few monsters to submit to Wayfinder recently and one of the reasons was to familiarize myself with the monster-building rules in preparation for RPG Superstar. It's a lot of fun, but there are certain mechanical considerations I'm glad I took the time to work out. It will make things easier should I have to do so again for the competition.

Jeff's right. The judges last year posted their reviews of every item in the "keep" folder (actually, not just their reviews -- Sean broke down all of them, which was awesome). I assume he'll do the same this year, though with 89 now that might take him a while even if he gets to all of them.

The review thread seems to be getting good feedback, so definitely post it there (I think you may have already?).

I assume archetypes will also get good feedback once people post them. I'd think at least one of the judges would probably be kind enough to pop in and give you more official reviews if you gentlemen post yours (assuming you're not bumped up to full contenders).

Thanks Jeff!, It means a lot to me.

I hadn't, I just did ^^. And just realized a little something I could've done with my Item to make it slightly better and more fun as I re-read the description after posting it, weird eh?.

Oh that is awesome! Great!, I'll eagerly await their feedback then!

So, anyone else designing a monster besides me?

Star Voter Season 6, Dedicated Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8 aka Gio

Well, the monsters I had in mind do not fit in any swamps, forest, or rivers, so I'll have to start from scratch which is fine by me, I simply need a good idea to go "Boom" in my head, and I'll be working on it Day & Night to train in designing monsters and be prepared for 2014 if needed, however I'm mostly doing university work, and looking through round2 archetypes, I suppose we can't really comment there, but I'm choosing the ones I'll vote for, many awesome archetypes to choose from!

Shadow Lodge Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8 aka ugly child

Well even if I don't get through, I'm going to try to meet the deadlines for all the rounds and see what I come up with. The monster round does seem more like a classic fantasy monster round.

I've still got another dozen archetypes to look through, but I did some work on a couple of monster ideas last night. I don't know if I'll be taking the time to do all the rounds like Damien planned, but I definitely want to have a round 3 entry, just in case. Besides, creating monsters is just fun.

Star Voter Season 6, Dedicated Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8 aka Gio

Round 3 must be the hardest of them all! Any monster I think of that I deem "original" is not related to rivers, swamps, or forests at all. Need to do something to find an idea... 1hr of Gym with epic music usually solves any lack of ideas I might have, this time it did not work ~

Thinking.... Thinking hard...

oh, never-mind, there is nothing a good hot bath can't cure. Ideas are pouring in, the world is beautiful again! xD.

I may have missed an answer to this somewhere. Is there any chance that we could take a peek at the magic item and possibly archetype feedback for us alternates? I'd love to be able to get advice on how to tighten things up, to try again next year.

I'll be happy to run through them should any of you like a template fu review, just pm me the item as posted. I'll do the same for archetypes too if you would like.

Shadow Lodge Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8 aka ugly child

Cheers Anthony, have at it. I would still love to see the judges feedback on things. To peek behind the curtain a little. :)

I think this was the final revision of my item.

Norn Thread
Aura moderate necromancy; CL 8th
Slot none; Price 8,500 gp; Weight
Description
This 2 inch long golden thread embodies power stolen or gifted from the Norn, who weave the threads of fate. The thread is sewn into the flesh of the user and causes no harm or pain during the process. Once activated the thread may not be removed and a creature may only wear one norn thread at a time.
The stitched creature may call upon the thread as an immediate action to delay the onset of a condition that affects her (other than entangled, flatfooted, grappled or pinned). This will delay the creature’s condition for 1 hour, the duration can be seen as the thread disappearing slowly; postponing the creature’s fate.
If the creature delays the dead condition the cause of her death is negated. After an hour the creature is slain, this is a death effect and allows no save. The spell death ward or similar effects that grant a saving throw versus death effects do not function against the thread. No one can cheat fate and when a creature is slain by a norn thread she may not be raised from the dead for one day.
The thread is immune to the broken condition and is consumed after one use.
Construction
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, greater false life, sands of time, creator must be a witch; Cost 4,250 gp

There's also the "Critique my item" thread. Some of the judges usually try to provide input there, but that thing has become a monster, as it does every year. Someone should stat that thing up.

I remember this item and voted it up several times.

The good: Strong imagery, unique mechanics, and solid writing and formatting.

The bad: Really spendy for a one-shot item. Granted, it can delay dying, which is handy, but what it comes down to is whether it's worth having a norn thread which can only be used once, or another item for a similar price.

Concerns: While I really like the flavor, Norns aren't a part of the Core pantheon. You're introducing elements here that don't appear anywhere else in the game. Most gamers are familiar with the Norns, but dropping a big element like that in with only one line of explanation seems wrong.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32 , Marathon Voter Season 6 aka Breelo Babblebock

I think a Norn is in one of the Bestiaries (3?).

Is it? Damn. I haven't picked that one up yet so I'm not completely familiar with the content.

*checks PRD*

Yep, it's in there, all right. Never really thought of Norns as statted monsters, they've always had a "universal forces that aren't actually gods" vibe to me.

I retract the comments under "concerns."

Sorry for taking so long, i have been stuck on motorways taking my daughter to visit her University open days this week. Here's a few quick thoughts for you.

Neither spell in the construction precludes creation by sorcerer or wizards, I can see that the witch only requirement fits the flavor, but at the same time, may have engendered non witch players to treat as class specific - my item suffered from being class specific, so it will be something i will be avoiding next year myself.

Sewing things into your flesh also encroaches the icky factor, but i think you were on the safe side of things here. I did like the imagery, however, those not knowing the norn monster may have strayed from your grasp - an easy way to change this and in my view give the extra push would be to make it that the act of sewing takes from the strand of fate of the character sewing, gifting it to the one stitched. This would also reduce the cost and make it more interesting to use... So, how much of my life can i sacrifice to stitch you? ;)

Other than that, template execution looks to be excellent, the flavor and theme are tight, and i cant immediately think of a way to abuse the item.

Is that useful for you at all?

Shadow Lodge Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8 aka ugly child

Great guys, all quite helpful. Is there any word whether we former alternates can post our archetypes? I just don't want to step on anyone's toes or take away too much attention from the top 16 at this point?

I've always loved the flavour of both the Norn and the Moirai. I was excited to see that they had part to play in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. I'm generally conservative enough with pricing, so I may try to take a few more chances with price in future.
