Looks great. I'm excited to give it a try after watching the video. It should really improve the chore of lengthy combats with my group!

Dark Archive

I discourage the use of electronic rollers and thus would rather not use them myself but I like the idea of this app keeping track of init, hp and all the creatures special abilities in one place. I am sure you have extra stuff i appreciate all in one place. I really enjoy your PFRPG rd app. Mostly because I can use it on my wifi only iPad with no Internet in the subway, at a friends where the wifi password is not shared, or at public spaces with no wifi.

Liberty's Edge

I rated the App and twittered as well.
I tried it out yesterday, and I am really happy with it!
Great work, thanx!

Raymond and arch check your inBox. ^^

Looks pretty sweet :) Actually came on here to see if there were any early reviews

Is this app going to be available on the Android platform anytime?

(i think its been out on Android for a few months, at least a simple google search tells me that).

I got this app yesterday and used it out tonight for the first time.

Tracking initiative and hps of monsters alone was v handy, saved a bit of board-clutter and think-time. Having the stats to hand in one place (instead of my usual bestiary print-outs) was also v handy, although i still used the board to scribble on. always handy to have a quick way of referencing feat rules and special abilities (i used to use the co-app, PF RPG for that, but now don't need to swap to it as PF Battle handles it).

Partly because you can't record conditions; in round 2 one of my Frost Drakes lost 7 dex, thus effecting initiative, AC and Reflex saves, but there isn't anywhere within the app to record something like that. That was a shame and could be more and more of a bother as you go up through the levels. Even just something like a simple 'note' function for each monster would solve it to an extent.

Also multiple iterations of the same monster get labelled; "Jeff", "Jeff 1", "Jeff 2", "Jeff 3" etc It would be nice to be able to change that label so that i could match it with a given figure ("Jeff Red", "Jeff sword", "Jeff unpainted" etc) but as it was i just scribbled out a little key legend and that worked fine.

Oh yes, and when two PCs got the same initiative it didn't put the highest init bonus first to correctly break the tie? Tiny matter though - the players were quick to correct me ;)

So some little factors that means it not perfect yet (no templates, that was another one) but it still saves on some hassle and does keep my end of the table MUCH more ordered and orderly (plus if this is linked to the android version of the PF Battle app then it seems like there might well be functionality to come that fixes much of the above). I built the two encounters both whilst out of the house, using nothing but this app and its twin, PF RPG, i'd say that being possible makes it pretty handy, no?

Thus even at just '85% great', that is still high enough for me to be more than happy about the pennies put down.

(And there we go - comment left both here and on Youtube).

actually it is... look on google play.

Conditions are coming, notes will be added too.
Your post is gold, derek. I will try to make real all you said.

Initiative is dex based. you insert dexterity to allow me with ordering correctly. if dexterity is not sat i can't order them. Are you telling me this system isn't working? I need to check that.

Talking about names, yes i can allow you to rename monsters. ^^ I also created the color system to better keep trak of monsters. If you see at the left of each monster row, there is a color. That color is randomly generated at insert time of monster. I taught it was enough... i was wrong. :D

Templates are coming too. I just need some work on them, but i'm working on this project from a long time, and i wanted to know if it was helpful before invest more time on it.

Now i know that i have to, and i will do. I have a lot of ideas on this project. things that i can implement, and i will do it.

My PFRG rd philosophy is still working: NO IN APP PURCHASE. :D if buy the app now, you will not be charged for updates!

and please, leave a review on appstore to help the project grow faster!

Ah, i hadn't put in pc dex scores, only init bonuses - but just checked the core rules and i had remembered right; initiative ties should be nroken in initiative bonus order (not just dex).

That really is just a tiny quibble though, i don't want to sound ungreatful!

For me i don't mind a bit of scribble on the board. I play using a great big whiteboard on the tabletop deliberately so everyone can make notes on the fly. The main thing i wanted from the app was stats and rules readily available (to save time and fuss) and to get rid of clutter (by providing quick and easy reference) and it does that in spades.

Shall endeavour to leave a review on the appstore too, didn't think about that! PF RPG too actually as i got no less than three other friends to grab that too (so handy not havimg to leaf through the books), may as well laud that one as well!

How useful would this be for a 3.5 game? Not very familiar with PFRPG so I don't know if there are any serious differences in how combat is run.

(I realize the reference material is all PFRPG, I'm just looking for a good initiative tracker.)

Thanks,
Greg

I just bought this, it's great but I don't think you've complied with the OGL rules correctly.

@greg
The battle itself is the same as 3.5; mosters are very very very different.

@dudemeister
For each application i made it is always the same... I'm not selling monsters informations. I sell all the work made to make them useable. If you go to an open monster reference i don't really think you can roll attacks or order monster's with initiative. This app is more compliant than others that sells ogc with inapp purchase! I'm just trying to create some good product at low cost. Paizo sells a windows combat manager at 30$ more or less... I sell it at 3$ and it is portable. just Enjoy it man ;).

Init is ordered according to dexterity bonus actually. Is that wrong? I will fix it if it is. :D i'll check it as soon as possible. I'm sorry gor the mistake, but italian rule translation is not so clear. :D

In init bonus field you need to insert full init bonus. This means also feat bonus.

I've just checked for initiative:

Quote:

If two or more combatants have the same initiative check result, the combatants who are tied act in order of total initiative modifier (highest first). If there is still a tie, the tied characters should roll to determine which one of them goes before the other.

Man i was so wrong... So dexterity is useless! Sorry i will make this right! Fix will come in one week.

I'm really sorry.

Liberty's Edge

No reason to be sorry. Your App is wonderfull!
I alwas use Dex if two combatants have the same Ini. But... :)

I was just preparing Thistletop from RotRL. I make battles named after the chapters, where I choose all the monsters featured in a chapter.
I couldn't find the Giant Gecko, which should be in Bestiary 3.

it is true. giant gecko is missing. will see wht is happened to this monster. :D

I was able to try this out with my gaming group over the weekend and I'd first like to say how great of an App this has turned out to be (and very reasonably priced).

It greatly speeds up combat and cuts back on combat book-keeping and GM prep time. I'm one of those people who likes to stat out monsters on index cards before games so there is no need to reference things in combat and I don't really need to do that now with this App.

Things I really like about this App:

- Easy and fast to set up battles. If you do this ahead of time for story-battles you can jump right into the action.

- Everything about the creature is right at your fingertips. It even links to rules for skills/feats/abilities/etc as they show up in descriptions.

- Tracks HP and initiative for all combatants. No need for extra paper to jot down remaining HP.

- Built-in dice roller for all of the common rolls a creature would need to make (attacks, saves, initiative, CMB, skills, etc).

- You can select which monster attacks count towards the additive total damage from an attack string. This is great if a monster attacks more than one PC with its multiple attacks. The color used to show an attack as "selected" is fairly close in shade to the non-selected color, though, and can be hard to see at times.

Things I think could use some improvement:

- The dice roller doesn't help with creature special abilities. For example, a dragon's breath weapon damage will be listed, but there is no way to roll it. Easy enough to roll on your own, but it would be a nice addition.

- There is no way to modify anything (temporary or otherwise) about the combatants. Ways to add direct boosts or penalties (+1 Atk for example) would be nice to account for spells cast on creatures or players.

- No way to add common status effects (such as the ones at the back of the handbook). Tying in with the above suggestion, user-customized status effects could be available to account for any special spells, afflictions, etc that the GM may need for their campaign. This could cut back on needing to input each spell effect (from every book) that a GM or player would apply to a combatant.

- A way to track the round number would be nice. If status effects are ever implemented, this would be a good way to keep track of their durations.

- I'm not sure if its permitted, but adding some of the GameMastery Guide pre-generated NPCs to the monster selection would be great for combats against NPC-type foes that you'd typically encounter in urban settings, pirate campaigns, etc.

Overall, this is the best Pathfinder combat tracking tool I've ever used so far, short of making huge and time consuming custom excel files. I was using it from my iPod Touch, but I bet it would be even nicer with an iPad. The "open feeling" of not having your face behind a laptop really helps socially engage the players more and I think this App is a nice compromise between minimal obstruction and maximum GM-aiding potential. I plan to use it in my future games as well. With future updates, I think this App has HUGE potential for GMs.

I bet you could even modify it to make a simpler Player version that keeps track of HP/status/rolls as it does for monsters (assuming a user-customization option is added). I'm sure my players would appreciate being able to see descriptions of abilities right from their virtual-sheets.

Thanks for making such a great App!

i will try with time to make all the things you said arch. Actually are incoming conditions for now, then we will see. I will keep this app up to date for sure, but i don't know witch feature will come first. :D
Now it is condition's turn.

3 redeem code left.

Is there an Android version?

Dark Archive

This looks like a great app, looking forward too using it for PFS.

this question has been answered...

A google play search would help you, or a simple google search with keywords "pf battle android". By the way yes, this app is available on iphone, iphone 5, ipad, android (tablet and phones).

Seems my browser search failed me...

Thank you for that.

No problem. I'm glad if you like the app.

Now I just need the 4USD...

i'm sorry, but with this i can't help you.

Left a message on Youtube, Gringoire. Are there still redeem codes available?

My biggest question was if it would track expendable resources like Ki Pool...

I think that expendable resources are the minor thing, if you consider all the features that this app has.

By the way no. This app can't manage expandable resources, and i think that will never be able to do that, but we will see...

For redeem promotion i'm sorry, but it is finished. ^^

Now i'm working on conditions.

In theese days you will see an update that brings no new features, but it solves some very minor issues.

A major release will come in the middle of next month, and it will contain conditions, better monster management, more infos for players, round counter and a battle log system.

Stay tuned.

Love it thus far, mate.

Whether you sell it or give it away doesn't matter. You need to include the OGL information in order to make this compliant. I'm not trying to be mean or anything like that. I'm trying to help you make your product compatible with the rules all publishers need to stand by in order to keep this game going. If you aren't sure how the OGL and Pathfinder Compatibility licence works Vic is usually pretty good with getting people compliant with little fuss. I like your product and I'd like to see you profit from it, but that means dotting your I's and crossing your t's legally.

You are right i forgot to mention the OGL itself. Thank you for warning me. I'll include a section in where you can read tha OGL entirely in next release.

Liberty's Edge

Somehow, I suddenly can't open my saved Battles anymore. As soon as I hit a Battle to open it, the App is shutting down, returning to the homescreen...on iPhone5 as well as on iPad3.

Can you expand on the more info for players part? Would love to be able to add in attacks/spells for characters. That way if there's an NPC, absent player, etc., I can use the same app instead of switching to my dice rolling app or actually rolling dice and doing math :P

For now ac and saving throws info will be addable. For attack we will see later. I'm working on conditions and logging system. Then i want to pay more attention on monsters customization.

Liberty's Edge

GringoireDM, would it be possible, to add an option to the hit points, where I can set them as I like, or a max hp option, according to the monsters hd?

I really like the update, thanx!

Liberty's Edge

Oh, and I just observed that, the value you enter for a players AC will be saved in all following entries for the other AC values and saves...

Dryder. i know of this bug. and i've solved it. waiting for apple review. I'm sorry.
by the way, you can save correctly all values, but if you try to modify player you have this bug.
Inside the battle players will be displayed well.

Sorry for that guys

Love this app!!! Have been using it every week to DM since it came out. Makes planning encounters so much easier that I can't imaging running without it now. I love the app as is and find it extremely useful. All of my ideas below are just suggestions that I personally would like to see.

+1 to the addition of a turn counter. Glad to see that is coming.
+1 to adding a tag name for the monster. Would like to share a view of the list, but don't want players to know what they are fighting. Be nice to say "Large Oozing Dogs" rather than "troll hounds" to maintain the mystery. Alternately, create a screen view that I can show to the players, as needed.

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered
Things I would like to see/ nice to have:
* XP total for a "battle"
* Ability to collapse multiple of the same monster in the turn list. I like to use large groups of the same monster. 20 hobgoblins makes a long list. Right now I enter just one of a monster, but will hit melee attack rolls 20 times and just manage hit points separately. But if XP count is added, this would be extra helpful as I would then enter the correct number of monsters without cluttering up the list. I am happy to have them all go on the same initiative.
* Would like a better highlighting scheme of the current player. I would like to replace the red dot with a highlight of the row. This would make it easier to see. Or, alternately, just have the player whose turn it is at the top of the list and just have the list scroll around from the bottom.
* Ability to auto re-roll monster initiatives. Players or monsters will frequently disengage causing a new initiative to take place when they re-engage. Currently, I either manually update the monsters or just leave them with the same initiative as before.
* Ability to force player initiatives to be recorded at the start of a battle, by cycling through the PCs without have to do the swipe and enter. All of my players prefer to roll their own initiative. Always have, always will. This would be a good default to specify, by player, when editing/creating a party.
* For monster customizations, allow the adding of an NPC.
* Ability to scroll back on rolls, such as damage. Players are forever asking after the following attack, "How much was that damage again?" I'm old and have enough else to juggle in-game that I don't remember. :-) A back and forward for this would be a "nice-to-have".
* Ability to account for "held" actions. Players can hold their action to go at any point before their next turn, regardless of their dex. Drag and drop for this would be really cool. Supporting decimals with an initiative roll would certainly be a work around.
* The ability to roll Attacks on the monster page like the saves, stats, and CMB/CMD rolls. I suspect it wasn't done this way because of the amount of data to manage.

You should get an update.

Now you have more player infos, conditions, battle logs and round turns.
This is available since a week right now, and sunday (i hope) will come a fix for old created battles, and player edit view.

About forcing to insert player's initiative, this will never happen. I want the app to be quick and fancy, if possible. If you want to set manually initiative, you can always do that, by the action view of each player.

Soon i will apply the long tap function to move the initiative order faster.

About collapsing monster.. I'm sorry, but if you add 20 hobgoblin they are 20 monsters, and i will treat them as 20 monsters. I can't and i don't want to understand that you would like to manage all as one. I don't have any idea on how to do that without sacrifice.

For the rewind function... No, it is impossible. This isn't a desktop application. I don't have a desktop pc resources on a 3gs. I can't do that i'm sorry. But you have log system that helps you to remember what's happened each round. Hope you will like it.

Thanks for the quick response. I love the new features. Can't wait to try the conditions next week. Must have accepted the update without realizing it as I already had the update but didn't notice at last Sunday's session.

Keep up the great work!
