How secretive do we have to be about round 2?

Star Voter Season 6

As I understand it, only round 1 is anonymous, with round 2 and all subsequent rounds being open to discussion. How far does this extend, though? Despite it currently being round 1, would it be cool if I wanted to take a printout of my rough archetype down to my FLGS for critique and playtesting? I've always found the best test of an idea is getting it into the hands of players, and I would rather do that sooner than later if possible.

What they've said in the past is you're free to have things beta checked and whatnot. However, remember it needs to be your idea, not an amalgamation of your gaming group's.

In general, my feeling is it's fine to have others' tell you what they do or don't like/what does pr doesn't work, but they shouldn't suggest things you can do.

And anonymity is for more than the forums. If I posted my item my non-existent blog, that would be a disqualification. Also, in Round 2, once the archetypes are posted, you can not talk about it. You're not even allowed to say "thanks and please vote for me" this year, which is a change from previous years.

Dedicated Voter Season 6

Simple answer, the very best time to talk about your entries is when the contest is over, which is something I probably won't even do then. The only way you'll learn what I created is if I win RPG Superstar.

But you could talk about it outside the internet. Like at your FLGS.

See, the problem with this is when you've been working on something for several hours, things start to get engrained in your head. You create an awesome ability, and of course you know what it does - you made it.

However, that same ability could be really confusing to somebody else who didn't have your exact idea. Maybe you accidentally clipped out something important when boiling the description down. Regardless, there's nothing quite like having a second pair of eyes to look at something, and it usually only takes what? 5 minutes? It seems folly not to do this.

The only issue with this in a professional setting is NDAs, but that's why I made this post. To check on that and see what's in the clear.

Right. I was speaking strictly of what goes on here on the Paizo boards. I don't see a problem with asking someone you know to do a read-over of your work to ensure clarity.

As past years have shown, it's a difficult thing to read people's comments on an entry and restrain oneself from replying to rebut, clarify, or expand on the issue.

Yes. Some even got DQ'd - the judges really take this seriously, so you should too :)
