Pathfinder Lost Omens, Maps, Rulebook Subscriber
In particular, in this thread, I seem to have two different Smurf avatars on two successive posts.

Hmm. It's happening here, too (although this post appears to have gone back to the avatar I'd expect).

Testing the theory that somehow the odd behaviour is being caused by a link to a post with a Smurf avatar - if I'm right, this post will also show up with a Smurf.
Edit: Which does seem to be the case.
It's standard on the Paizo forums. If your post contains the word Smurf, your avatar is a Smurf. Both of your posts in the other thread have the word Smurf in them.

Everyone knows Paizo uses a Snork filter.
Snorks!
Edit: I was trying earlier to find one of the earliest smurf thread (or post), but this is the best I could do.
Also, nothing quite steals one's thunder during a long setting cosmology discussion quite like accidentally mentioning a plane's morphic nature.

Well, at least I know what to do to prevent it now. Thanks, guys.

Yay, it snowed! Smurfball anyone?
EDIT: Fun fact - if you hit preview your original avatar is shown!

If it bothers you, I think someone's got a script called "Gargamel" which will get rid of those pesky smurfs, but are you really so heartless?

Do you get assigned a random smurf avatar every time or is one randomly assigned to you permanently the first time you do this?
I wanted a different smurf :(
I guess that smurfed my answer! I still was hoping for a different smurf.
Yar!
From what I can tell (via observation the last few years) is that smurfs are randomly assigned except in a very few rare instances, such as with the "Kobold Cleaver" smurf.

If you didn't smurfing mention the blue buggers, it wouldn't smurfing happen!
Oh, smurf it all, who dropped the "s" bomb again?

I find this whole smurf thing absolutely fascinating.

I don't understand why it happens in these two posts. I don't see the magic word anywhere there.

So what? The german 'Schlumpf' doesn't work, either :(

Well, you smurf something new every day.
Why doesn't it care what vowel is used?
Smyrf?
I guess we can rule out "y" as a useful "sometimes vowel" here.

The filter is grabbing the ['s] on the end of one word and the [morph] on the beginning of the next and thinks someone is trying to sneak past it.
