Amiri's stats give her the inappropriate size penalty for using a large bastard sword, but she should not take this penalty due to her Exotic Weapon Proficiency.
The Exotic Weapon Proficiency allows her to wield a bastard sword one-handed instead of two-handed, which means (according to the Weapon Size rules) she can wield a large bastard sword two-handed.
Therfore, the stats should read:
Melee Large bastard sword +5 (2d8+6/19-20)
and in Rage:
Melee Large bastard sword +7 (2d8+9/19-20)

No, the EWP allows her to wield a bastard sword of the correct size one-handed instead of two-handed.
It doesn't change that the sword is Large and she is Medium, and therefore she has a –2 size penalty on her attacks with it, even when using it two-handed.
Whether she is using a longsword, bastard sword, or greatsword two-handed, if it is a Large weapon, she takes a –2 penalty.

"An awful lot of errors" is very relative in a book with over 300 stat blocks, each of which contains 50 or more pieces of information. And we're talking about a +1 or +2 difference on a roll.
For some reason, chopswill really likes pointing out this sort of thing, and it always starts a round of "you should have the public do one last edit of your books." To which I respond, "notice how long it's taking people to go through these stat blocks," and "notice that some of these 'corrections' are themselves incorrect."
Books will have mistakes. It sucks, and it's embarrassing, but it happens. The questions you must ask yourself are: (1) Are these little mistakes going to negatively affect your game, or are they just trivial? (2) Are these errors enough to offset the value of having over 300 ready-to-use stat blocks for your campaign?

if you could give me a non-public way of submitting potential issues and someone would actually look at for a 2nd printing errata, I would do that.
and I do try make my best effort to not do incorrect "corrections."
and from looking over past erratas for the Bestiaries I'd say I've found quite a few correct "corrections"...

So, is the message here that posting of possible errors in the statblocks is something Paizo would prefer people not do?

So, is the message here that posting of possible errors in the statblocks is something Paizo would prefer people not do?
The message is that "I think this is an error" is of MUCH less value than "I have gone over this several times and I am sure there is an error."
Do I want actual errors reported so I can get them fixed? Yes.
When I get a report of an error, do I check all stages of the book to see if it is actually an error and where it occurred? Yes.
When something is reported as an error but isn't actually an error, does that mean my time is wasted checking it? Yes.
Is "I can't figure out how he spent his favored class points" an error? No.

Thank you for the reply. After examining the wording in the Weapon Size rules, I can see how they can be interpreted this way. I still feel, it's a little vague, so I've recommended this for the FAQ.
Thank you again for taking the time to help me out.

I'll admit that my knowledge and experience is nothing compared to those of many of the posters here, but here are my two cents.
3.X is complex. A 3.X product with many statblocks will have many mistakes. It's not a question.
I feel like I've found errors in all 3.X products I've ever scrutinized with any real degree of thoroughness, from "The Sunless Citadel" on up. I regard this as a disadvantage of 3.X, compared to other systems, but I've learned to live with it.
The fact that Sean K Reynolds takes the time and makes the effort to get errors fixed (as well as to defend the cases that are not errors) speaks very well, not badly, of Paizo. Other companies might ignore, or pretend to ignore, corrections. Now, when you want to use a statblock from the book, you can do a quick check to see if there are any corrections.
In other words, thank you, SKR.

While I appreciate the effort you're going through, you're making it look like the book is riddled with errors that make it unusable. I'm sure there is a bonus here and there that is off. Players and GMs make these mistakes all the time and it doesn't affect game play. While it would be nice to have a perfect product, let's be fair and honest, we're dealing with humans who are imperfect. When I read this thread, it feels like you're trying to make Paizo look bad (which I don't think you're trying to do, it just reads that way to me).
Some things are more significant than others (not meeting requirements for spells or feats) but the skills that are off slightly seem less significant.
I haven't bought this book yet, and I still plan buying it once my finances are in better shape. I just wanted to say that this thread could make it look like a poor choice for someone who may not know better.

The reason I do this is so when the 2nd printing comes the errors get fixed.
For every errata thread someone complains that the book is full of errors and don't they ever proofread.
SRK comes on and gives to speech about the effort it takes per word to find errors and the costs around that and no matter what you do errors creep in.
There is also the person who says they will wait until the next printing to get the perfect book.
Have you seen the size of the Core Rule Book errata thread?
I'm grateful that Paizo actually listens to these threads and actually fixes errors.
Bottom line I love the book, the errors I find are minor.
All the NPCs here are playable and should give you tonnes of ideas and challenges to your PCs.
Bob_Loblaw |
I don't think he's trying to cause problems either (I said as much in my first post). I'm just saying that there is a long list of things that he is pointing out that is wrong with the book without any context and to someone who doesn't know better, it looks like the book is so full of errors that it is unusable. When I poked my head in, my first thought was, "holy crap! That's a lot they screwed up on." Then I realized it was minor issues that would have minimal effect on play.

Pg. 16 - Double Axe Fury
This is sort of an addendum to Zmar's original first post of this thread.
The double axe fury barbarian has the issue Zmar speaks of, where his non-raging stats don't decrease his attack bonus for wielding a composite bow with too low a Strength for its rating.
Thing is, even when raging his Str is too low. When raging this guy has a +6 Strength, but is wielding a composite longbow with a +7 Str rating.
As a fix, probably would be easier to just reduce the Str rating of the composite longbow to a +6.
