PFS uses scenarios(made specifically for PFS). Modules are similar to scenarios, but they are not made mostly for PFS, and are long enough that they most likely won't be completed in four hours. An AP is like a collection of module that tells a longer story.
This.
Though... that's an interesting idea...
An Organized Play Adventure Path? (Hint, hint!)

yeah I understood the modules, in conversations with others I think they had mentioned adventure paths, so I was trying to figure out if there was something I hadn't seen, or if we had been mistaken.
APs are not sanctioned for PFS play.
longer answer:
The reason you might have heard some conversation about it recently is because the newest AP, Shattered Star, fits somewhat thematically with PFS. Players are assumed to be members of the Pathfinder Society, etc... Some players felt it would be a nice candidate for experimentation about making an AP PFS legal, but nothing came of it.

There are provisions for past lvl 12 anyhow though lol.
Those provisions are EXTREMELY limited. And also keep in mind the hard cap rules on Tiers. A player who finishes Shattered Star at level 17 isn't going to be able to play a module with a hard cap of 14.
