The Al-Qadim setting had a ton of different 'Holy Slayer' organizations, based on the various gods of that setting, and the ninja mechanics would fit their flavor quite well. The ki stuff could be seen as divine gifts, if using the Holy Slayers as a straight port over, but a tweak might have the 'ninja' organization of the Arab-esque setting to consider their ki powers to have been gifted by (or stolen from!) genies. If 'ki' is thought of as a special inner heat, a 'smokeless fire' within, that they call up from themselves like a genie called from a lamp, the mechanics could remain the same.
Throwing 'stars' could be spikes or curved blades or even little Moon Knight-like 'throwing crescents,' depending on how much you want to run with the cliches.

+1 to the Holy Slayer/Assassin reskin.
On a related note, in my LoF game Samurai are called Mamluks and witches are allowed to be called Sha'ir with a "gen" animal companion and charisma as the casting stat.
That's super-awesome! You could even stat up Gen as an Improved Familiar option (just make them Tiny Mephits, perhaps, rather than stat up an entirely new creature).
