Werewolf bite - what to do next?

Advice

So, let's say you have a character who gets bit by a werewolf and fails his FORT save. I'd rather not lose the character from the campaign and would like for the player to be able to continue to use him.

Advice?

Well it's already a bit too late for the belladonna treatment. Looks like you need to engage the services of a cleric as per the standard rules.

See the "lycanthropy" section of the Lycanthrope monster description in the Bestiary.

Unless I'm mistaken, consuming wolfsbane at any stage of being a werewolf allows the character to make a new Fort save to recover. Another option is to simply chain the character down every time there is a full moon.... but they will probably have to be some really heavy chains just to be sure.

I do believe this spell was created by the first werewolf wizard just for such an occasion.

I also say "embrace it". Werewolves are pretty awesome. Transform and get your ridiculous Strength bonus. Dip barbarian for a Strength of Yes, despite your original score. Then when you get pissed at someone and your class features just won't do, throw back your head and howl, then rip them to shreds with your claws.

If you haven't experienced your first full moon yet its not too difficult to get rid of. Have the cleric remove disease and remove the curse that should do the trick. After you have turned it gets much more problematic. Wolfsbane can get rid of it but you risk dying to do so.

Embracing it comes with a lot of baggage. Keep in mind lycans become evil. On top of that its not like you get to control it at least not right away. Every time you are struck you risk turning unless you can make a save. Each GM is different I guess but when my player tried to embrace it he sure didn't get an easy ride from me. Keep in mind this is a curse after all.

I was going to say the same thing!

I ran a game where the PC had contracted the disease (it was a curse in my game though). He never remembered his nights, only saw evidence of the blood and gore that the other part of himself did. He'd wake up with his clothes torn up, the tang of salt/iron from the blood in his mouth and notice that something had dismembered a person or people and he was in their house.

That's of course assuming you don't mind your character becoming chaotic evil for being a voluntary lycanthrope.
