Playing my Barbarian in... I can't remember. But there was a bookshop, and the owner had some information we needed. We go in, and I browse the books (as one other player joked, looking for one with pictures). After asking the wrong question, we are asked to leave. Being the fine, upstanding sort of people we are, we left without fuss. As we're trying to determine the best way to talk ourselves back inside, I realize I never put down the book I was looking at.

My barbarian walks up to the shop, and knocks on the door. A very hostile looking, armed man opens the door and I realize we're (finally) about to have a fight on our hands. I rage and rear back and throw the book straight at the guy as an improvised ranged weapon, screaming "I'd like to make a return!" Rolled really well on the attack, even with the penalty. May have even been a crit, but it's hard to remember. Wound up doing around 12 nonlethal damage with a hardback Kama Sutra. It was my second favorite experience playing that character.

Awhile back, I ran my Aasimar Bard/Ninja through Mask of the Living God. Everything went really well right up until we got into the temple of Razmir...

Party Make-up;
Half-Orc Barbarian only interesting in orc rations
Me (Faction = Andoran, worshipper of Cayden Cailean)
a Cleric of Groetus (domains Madness and Destruction)
Bob the Wizard of Sleep
Two Witches (one of whom was our VL, who couldn't stop laughing)

Situation; Cleric is locked in the dungeons, nekkid, and separated from the rest of the party. My bard is locked unconscious in a separate room on the upper floor. The rest of the party is separated from their gear and trapped in a room surrounded by armed and angry Razmirans.

The Cleric, who knew where our gear was thanks to a an earlier Fort save, manages to break himself out of his cell, and sneaks into the storeroom, where he discovers all our gear, plus the casters familiars. Small issue; he now has to don his armor, BEFORE the angry heathens beat down the door...and he's wearing full-plate...

GM; Bob, you are getting some very interesting emotional sensations from your companion. He seems very excited.

Bob; I look through his eyes!

(Our GM being nice, she allowed him to determine that the scorpion was seeing our missing party member)

Bob; I cast Swift Girding through my companion! (This was one of the only spells he had available, since his spellbook got taken away two days ago, so he couldn't refresh anything.)

End Result; Cleric opens door wide, and does a stunning Tony Stark impression as his armor magically fastens on. He then proceeds to fight his way through nearly every enemy in the temple, rescue the damsel in distress, and get through to the other party members, all while carrying 3 familiars and everyone's gear.

Risen from the sands.

Spoiler:
Most of my characters carry a bow and 'trick arrows'. I'd ran Risen, and let the GM know. We get to the steam roller of death and I think, "crap," I'd forgotten that part, and, knowing that it was a tomb, didn't think undead hunting gear was metagamy, but nothing for Steamroller of death. My slayer is a meele build, but level 2 and we have other melee types of levels 3 and 4.

We roll initiative and I roll a 7 (+5 mod). I'm thinking I'm going to lose the character, especially since everyone who rolled higher than me is running away. We get to me.

"Matt, are you running?"

"I'm shooting, then moving back 30'. Does a 16 touch hit?"

"Touch? Yeah, what are you shooting... Oh no."

"Yup, DC 10 reflex save."

"An 8, it's glued to the floor, isn't it?" *sigh* "Anyone but you, I'd accuse of Metagaming that, but you entangle EVERYTHING."

"Yup." Saved the party I did. Took three arrows, but best 60 GP I've spent.

More recent scenario, Ifrits Galore. Also we'd been talking GotG.

Spoiler:
Dealing with a Sorcerer Wishcaster.

"She's using Heart's Desire on Shankar (my male slut melee archeologist). Make a will save or share your heart's desire."

*make the will save* "You, me bumping between the sheets, both enjoying our fire resistance."

Later I grapple her and she makes the concentration check to drop a fireball point blank. "Ok, you made your save, so you just take 15 points of damage, minus your fire resistance-"

I sing "Ahhhhhhhhh! Hooked on Evasion! High on savin' made my reflex save!"

Archeologists, peeing in the Rogue's Wheeties since 2012.

I ran Paths We Choose for a party that was all 7th levels, with one 3rd level Magus who was an (ex) Scarnzi.

The poor 3rd level magus was thrust into the Exchange's faction quest geared to challenge the 7th levels. Not only did he survive, he shone.

Being the only player who's character was in that faction(s), the other players took the opportunity to zone out and let him struggle through the puzzle to find Gueril.

Once they did locate the ambush, he won initiative and was the first to escape the rowboat and get aboard the shipwreck to join Gueril's side. The devilfish went next, and stymied the rest of the party from immediately joining him.

Thanks to the programmed tactics, the NPCs ignored the level 3 and focused on Gueril, eventually dropping him. But by then the rest of the team began to get aboard, and proved much more dangerous than the magus and drew attention.

It still took the magus' player to coordinate the team (focus on the $%^& damn caster, people!) to turn the tide, all while he kept reviving Guaril and subsequently peeling assassins back to re-knock the scarnzi faction head below zero HP.. and staying close enough to prevent cheapshot coup-de-grace's (or rolling him overboard into the water to drown)

The magus even kill-stole the doomspeaker with a chintzy ranged hit (after the 2 zen-archer monks did the heavy lifting) and then bravely provoked an AoO from the last assassin in a futile attempt to grapple him and prevent an apparently coming suicide CDG. But eating the AoO allowed Guaril (who was delaying at that point, prone, weaponless, and staggered at 0 HP) to snatch back up his dagger and do an attack from the ground while benefitting from flank from the magus' position after surviving his brave grapple attempt.

TL;DR: Level 3 magus not only survived the high tier Exchange encounter in Paths We Choose, he was an MVP. And I wasn't even pulling punches on him, either.

A friend of mine has a gnomish barbarian who goes by the name of Thighbite. Exploring a room in

Spoiler:
Rebel's Ransom
the cleric of Desna grabbed the item we were looking for, prompting two sea hags to burst out of hiding and attack us.

Thighbite happened to be the focus of attack, and somehow failed one of the Fort saves against Evil Eye, leaving him staggered.

Someone took out one hag before retreating; the cleric dimension door'd out of the room while the rest of us (figuring that we had what we needed) retreated back through the door--shouting to Thighbite to (OOC) to use his one action to move and follow us so that we could trap the hag in the room.

Without a word, Thighbite activated rage as a free action and rolled his dice, crit the hag for some 60-odd damage, killing it instantly and ending the combat.

Despite what we were all telling him to do, Thighbite made the *right* choice.

Necro!

Ran a table of Night March of Kalkamedes yesterday, for a table of three different father-son pairs (though one father got shuffled to a different table, so I had 2 fathers and 3 sons).

I was very impressed at their humanity when they encountered the agitated mama bear with her two cubs: they immediately, without consulting with each other, unanimously decided that they should try to get it to go away because there was no need to kill a mama bear who's just protecting her cubs.

So after a failed Wild Empathy check, they managed a successful Intimidate check, followed by cause fear, to make the bear run away (and of course the little cubs followed).

Props to my table for having hearts!

Playing a home game of Shattered Star; my ninja, a cleric, skald, magus/monk, sorc, and arcanist. We get to the tower for the first time, and me and the skald are the only two who make the Will saves to see the concealed windows. I climb up to investigate while the skald attempts to convince the rest of the group of the windows' existence.

I look through the window in the center and see two dire rats and a wererat, then climb back down to report. At this point, the skald has everyone convinced except the cleric and the sorcerer, who kept rolling 10 or less on their saves. I get fed up with the argument.

Me; "I am about this close to just throwing a rock through that glass to prove a point!"

Skald; "If you don't, I will."

Me: "Ok! I pick up a rock and throw it through the window!"

GM; *epicfacepalm*

Soooo...yeah...it took the sorcerer two rounds of getting shot to make the save, and we kinda triggered the final boss before we even got into the tower proper. A good night's work.

For extra fun, I played in a party of entirely humans who made it through the first floor of Emerald Spire - you know, the one where light doesn't work right, so absolutely no one in the party could see more than 5 feet. We were also entirely fresh level 1s and had no healing. We survived... barely.

Ran the same scenario with Ezren, Seoni, Lini, and a dwarf cleric for Core Campaign. They played it backwards and Ezren killed both of the major encounters with Hand of the Apprentice. They then mopped up the remainder of the encounters.

Ezren was being played by a 12 year old. It was his first game of Pathfinder.

Details:
Grulk was 30' out the window and the cane was the only way to get him before he was out of range. Skizzertz was running out of the tower, being chased by Ezren and Seoni (also played by a 12 year old), when Ezren thwapped him. I was as amazed as the cleric, who had played the module before, that the boys insisted on going up the stairs to Grulk as the first encounter.

Silver Crusade 2/5

Last night was really fun. Over time, I've learned how to make a cheesy character if I wanted, but I also recently think I know why to.

We went through the golemworks incident, with the following:

Pregen rogue 7
Pregen ninja 7
witch 7
cleric 6
druid 6 (me)
The pregens were newbys, and I found the most fun in keeping them in the having fun column.I dud what I could to keep them having fun, saw lots of sneak attack dice, so for my time, it was a success.

Playing trouble in Tamran yesterday. Entrance to Cetenna's room is rather narrow, we have our main melee inside who has withdrawn from her after taking a beating, my giant snake is tussling with the badger and I have dropped a celestial cow next to her.

Our Wizard moves to a place where she can charge him, which is inadvisable. She does so, our GM declaring that she cares not about the battle cattle. Cue crit smiting gore attack for 35 damage and embarassingly she fails to hit the wizard.

Lesson learned you DO NOT IGNORE BATTLE CATTLE!

I was at MACE, a gaming con in Charlotte NC, this past weekend with my fiance. We sat down for a table of "Horn of Aroden" and the con coordinator comes up with a young lady of around 12 and asked if she could play. I was apprehensive, because I'm nervous around kids and the coordinator said "This is her first gaming character, she made it herself with her father's help."

It turned out she and I were both playing bards so I got even more nervous over that, but once the game got rolling she was a trip. Her bard and mine were making bluff checks like crazy and feeding off each other's energy. My fiance, who has worked with kids in the past, did a great job helping her with her character sheet. The table was all-in-all quite fun and she liked it enough to ask about regular PFS gaming in the area.

Made me proud to see such a good experience with someone who I had a lot of doubts about.

Home game not PFS, but eh.

One of the other players kept touching my dice. As we all know, this is bad luck and it showed. I failed to roll anything above a 5 for 4 times in a row before deciding to perform a purification ritual. I then spent 5 minutes pretending to pray to the dice gods. After that I said "Fixed it" and to demonstrate rolled 19, 15, 17, 19. No one could work out how I did it.

We started a bar fight. The GM didn't want us to start a bar fight, so he made the enemies really above our level to punish us. He underestimated my barbarian and I started the fight by taking one out in one hit. Then the rangers got a pair of crits and finished the other two. GM was stunned.

In

A 5-9 Scenario:
Cairn of Shadows
I was playing my elven female swashbuckler AT rogue. Our contact had been abducted by an NPC and we didn't want to draw attention to ourselves by starting a small war in town getting him back. We all were looking through our ITS figuring out a plan when someone pointed out he had an elixer of love. This led to my rogue spiking the drink of the NPC. We then fast forward to my character being led up to his room, where I get more creative and ask "Can I tie you up?" And that's how the contact got rescued and the NPC foe of the Pathfinder Society was found by the cleaning lady the next day tied to the bedposts in his underwear.

The Exploits of Little Billy

Billy ("Billeh!") is the barbarian PC played by a friend of mine. He's got a pretty typical build: utterly maxed strength, dumped mentals. He looks a lot like Simple Joe from Tropic Thunder. Tends to roll a d20 and if it's not a 1 declare it's a hit (and is usually right). With Greater Sunder he tends to just shred bad guys, starting with weapons, spell component pouches and holy symbols. Superstition, Spell Sunder, Beast Totem, adamantine eartbreaker, the usual. The most remarkable is that apart from being Invulnerable Rager he's also an Urban Barbarian. With a Cord of Stubborn Resolve he rage-cycles to switch to different styles of rage several times per encounter so we joke he uses different rage to do the dishes or to open doors.

Wardstone Patrol:
So he ran ahead of the party to confront the villagers/vermlek witches. First he got Evil Eyes/Ill Omen/Hold Person'd with some villagers coming at him with scythes to start a CdG as a standard+standard; I wanted to show off the danger while giving the party time to come up with a solution. But then the bard helped him make it with a Saving Finale (because the Ill Omen had already expired). So Billy AoO murders the peasants coming at him.

He then makes the weird move of dropping his polearm and stepping close enough to the vermleks that there's just 5ft of space between them; I think he wanted to threaten them with his claws or something. So the vermleks repeat their routine, Hold him and this time the Finale doesn't save him. I suggest to the party they should dig out any other rerolls they can find and they try, but all rolls fail. So the fourth vermlek gets to make a (2d4+4)x4 scythe CdG. And then he rolls a '20' on his DC 40 or so Fortitude save.

Forbidden Furnace of Forgotten Koor:
We run into the naga and it bites Billy, he fails his save and takes 4 con damage, and he gets bitten again. For the next several rounds he proceeds to continually fail saves (at a +14 Fort or so) and take 3-4 con damage per round. Our winter witch buys us some time by Ice Tombing the naga while we desperately try to save Billy. At some point he's at -3 Con and only Rage is keeping him alive while we try to cast Lesser Restoration as fast as we can. That's when he finally makes a save. After 9 rounds the poison finally wears off. All in all he's taken 17 Con damage.

Later during the adventure we come to the boss room and he walks in, walks past the boss, to the chick, and sunders her whip. The GM takes a look at his statblock and goes "that... wasn't supposed to happen..." Turns out it was her Arcane Bonded Object, too.

Race for the Runecarved Key:
So the auction devolves into chaos after some cultist runs off with the key and we're playing the 7-8 tier. In the opening round we get hit with Cloudkill, Sleet Storm and Stinking Cloud. It gets so bad that the bad guys are having trouble targeting areas because the other spells are blocking their line of vision.

So Billy gets hasted and starts rage-cycling to Spell Sunder all three effects into suspension for a few rounds and we all scatter. Next round sees a Glittterdust and a Web descend. He basically spends the entire fight spell sundering everything while my Investigator "investigated" the HP totals of enemies. (At +19 to hit and 1d8+20 damage with a longspear, not bad for a "skill monkey" class. Our bard is insane.)

After the cultists inside are suppressed we get into a chase. We all have some tricks up our sleeve to get through (I turn into a gargoyle), but Billy is an Urban Barbarian and just runs/jumps through everything, "catching" the guy in the opening round.

I put catch in between quotes because when we get to the next map all he sees is the quarry turn a corner, and when he follows there's noone there. We all get to the map and spend some time looking, circling a housing block, when our inquisitor spots tracks and notes that they're following Billy.

They've been following him for about three rounds. *Hit!* Billy, make a Fortitude Save vs. Death Attack. *17, makes it with a small margin.* So do we see the guy now? Nope.

That's when the other cultists get there. They don't see the assassin either, so they cast another Cloudkill centered on Billy, not knowing they also get the assassin. Then our bard Glitterdusts the assassin, blinding him. Billy Greater Sunders his weapons and trips him and now he's blind, prone, weaponless, in a Cloudkill next to an extremely pissed-off barbarian...

Meanwhile, I was on the roof of the building looking for the assassin and see the Cloudkill go up. I check how high is the building? 20ft. How high does Cloudkill go? 20ft. Nice. Then I spot the wizard standing just outside the cloud. Still in gargoyle form, I descend upon him and grab him. He does not manage to get away.

The moral of this story: Billy is brutally effective, but can only make a Fortitude save if it's the absolute last thing keeping him from death.

having a re-roll doesn't always help... I often seem to roll lower on them. or at least as bad...

Here's an example (one of my worst)...

I'm running the party scout (Rogue with a level dip in Wizard). My PC moves a little ahead of the party to check out something that just screams TRAP! and what do you know - it's a trap. A Haunt actually.... (I do hate Haunts)

Judge (knowing I go in the surprise round due to 1 level of Foresight wizard): "roll Init"
Me: (roll and add) "9, yeah I rolled a 3 +6 = 9" my worst Init roll so far in the game... and just under the 10 needed to beat a haunt.
Judge describes powerful visions and then says: "Make a will save"
Me: rolling a "Nat 1". sigh, "there is a reason I always take 10 on things... Wait, I bet this is a D$%# Haunt isn't it - I hate those things... Can I use my shirt re-roll?"
Judge pauses to reflet a minute (and build tension): "yeah, maybe you should"
Me: Another "Nat 1".
Judge: "wow... "
Me: "Yeah, it's my karma - I never roll better with re-rolls - It's a haunt isn't it? you know I have holy water in a spring wrist sheath just for these stupid things...."
2nd player handing me another die: "here, try with this one..."
Me: "oh, I can do it with this one too." roll "Nat 1."
All these are with EXTRA BIG dice.... so everyone can see the three d20s in front of me all reading "1". I use dice sets where the d6 are 1" cubes.
I pick up my "special dice" and roll it too... Yeah, "Natural 1" for the fourth time in a row. All 4 in a little cluster on the table top where everyone can see.
Judge gets up from the table to walk around a second and then asks "are you some type of warlock or something?"
Me: "Nah, my dice just hate me..."

Really - there is a reason I try to always take 10. It's 10 times as much as a "1"....

Haunting of Hinojai:
I was playing my Gozreh Cleric. At some point, we find something that's essentially an ooze made out of mist (Hungry Fog). I had Wind Wall prepped, so I wanted to cast that to separate us from it, but eventually concluded that it'd just fly over it, then fall down on the other side and attack us. So I made the Wind Wall cube-shaped around us, in a 10-by-10 square. The ooze, being mindless, tried to reach us, got blown up, and stayed there, as he couldn't figure out how to reach us or to get down. Eventually we Magic Missile'd and alchemist fire'd it to death. It was a close call, as we were running out of resources.

Curse of the Riven Sky:
Same Cleric. We needed to infiltrate a Hill Giant camp and enter a cave in the back. We timed things just right so I threw down a Control Winds to get a severe wind to blow stuff around the camp, while a Wizard threw an Illusory Wall over the entrance of the cave so they wouldn't notice we were inside. Then the Magus Dim Door'd us in so we could explore in peace. We then found out Illusory Wall is permanent, and that the save DC is so high the Hill Giants needed a natural 20 to see through it.

Curse of the Riven Sky:
Same adventure, later on. We need to fight the BBEG, who calls herself "Storm Queen". We fight her and a dragon shows up. Okay, we can handle this. GM goes, "oh, shoot, you should all make checks for the heavy wind blowing you about. Oh well, next round." My eyes light up. "I can fix that if you want! How hard is the wind, so I can decrease it." A party member yells "No, dude, increase it!" Apparently it was already strong, so I increased it to Hurricane levels around the dragon. Dragon got sucked up and didn't bother us anymore.

Eyes of the Ten:
Same Cleric. I'm there for support, not damage, so I lag behind a bit as my other teammates jump forward and around a bend. Eventually, I just reach that bend, but can't see what happens around it. BBEG completely demolishes a teammate (from full health to -40), but I can't see what happens. In my initiative, I yell out "what do I do?", to which the reply was to wait. Greater Invis'd Magus was next to the body, so he attacked the BBEG in a full-round, then Dim Door'd him and the body to me. Suddenly, there's the dead body of a teammate lying in front of me, and the familiar voice of the Magus whispers in my ear that he's only recently died. I come out of delay, Breath of Life'd him into the positives. His turn was up next, so he Dim Door'd me, himself, and the Magus (who was still invisible, in retrospect) back into the fight.
Just the mental image of a body appearing at your feet, reviving it, and then immediately being transported away really tickled me.

Race for the Runecarved Key:
I'm a Treesinger Druid who prefers to shape into Shambling Mounds. One party member is a Mammoth Rider with already a Huge mammoth. There's suddenly a rush and we need to get moving soon. I cling on to the Mammoth right before he departs (I asked if I could do a grapple to hang on. I barely made it). A chase scene ensued that in retrospect I could've easily made as well, but I held on because it was fun. The GM rules I did take damage every round in the chase due to me getting bumped around. Sure, whatever, still have quite a bit left. After the chase, we're alone with an invisible Assassin. I try to Faerie Fire him, but he Contingency'd behind me. I get sneak attack'd for a lot (roughly 40% of my HP left), and I still don't know where he is. On the Mammoth Rider's turn, I ask him to trample the area around me, as he can't see the opponent, but I know he's there. He asks me several times if I'm sure, because I'd get hit as well, but I'm sure. He tramples, we both roll our saves. The Assassin naturally makes it and takes no damage at all, I fail my save and I'm at 7 HP left. Assassin's turn is again, he sneak attacks me to -40. The entire table was wide-eyed at what just happened.
The organiser got wind of what happened and put on Facebook how one player got trampled to death by a mammoth. Apparently, he's friends with the author, and he replied with, "Huh, I don't remember writing in a mammoth..."

Siege of Serpents:
. We were warned not to put the MacGuffin in an extradimensional space, or things might get weird. We fight some people, Wizard drops one in a Create Pit because he's annoying. We mop up the fight, then box text happens. Apparently, MacGuffin was in the possession of the guy we Pitted. We mention this to our GM, who goes, "erm... Give me a minute, guys," as he discusses this with the overseer. Eventually it was rules that everyone who failed a Strength check to hold on would get sucked into a rift into the Ethereal plane. The look on our GM's face was priceless at that point.

There's probably more, but these come to mind immediately.

Sovereign Court 4/5 5/5 ** Venture-Lieutenant, Netherlands—Leiden

I was Quentin's GM during Siege of Serpents, and we were also playing Hinojai together.

Hinojai:
I was playing my Wayang Arcanist who is an extreme skittish coward. At least once I started an encounter with "No! Take them! Nott me!" and ran away (trying to exit the haunt before it went off).

During the final fight the GM ruled that the room was over 20ft high and the BBEG was a head that detached from its body to hide in the rafters and cast nasty spells. Our flying magus went after it but the other warrior was left helpless below. I eventually went after the head's body, with pretty much no defenses or signicant HP, figuring that anyone who keeps her body around for a century is probably attached to it, figuratively if perhaps not quite literally. And the head did come after me, but thankfully the warriors were then finally able to pile up on it and kill it.

Runecarved Key:
So after various squicky jobs for Heidmarch we get told we could also try to earn money rather than terrorize other people. And one option mentioned it hydra baiting. Our party was overjoyed at the opportunity.

The GM tells us that the goal is to hold out as long as possible, and the audience prefers decapitations (sunder with slashhing on the head) to just killing hydras. Our sunderbarian of course goes to town, but my investigator takes a look at his longspear and decides that pleasing the crowd will require something more. He takes a drink and turns into a gargoyle and soars above the arena like an angel of death. After we trash the first two hydras a new one comes in, ostensibly scarier. I dive down to it, saying "bring it" to the AoOs. Another full attack later and that's twenty misses and it's my turn; I get in again (provoke some more) and go for the bite-sunder (provoke some more) and bite off the hydra's head just before time is called and we need to go to the auction.

Don't let people tell you Investigator is a wussy class.

Setting: Crowded PFS event tenish years ago, with at least one table running intro mods.

Two of the characters at the low-level table ran 1st-level fighters optimized for AC (both had the Shield Wall teamwork feat). The GM need confirmed crits to even nick them, and they both made it to 2nd without being successfully hit once. They roleplayed a "This is *Sparta!*" mentality to the hilt, and it greatly helped that one of them had a full beard cut in a style an Olympian god would be proud to bear. (This was also not longer after the movie "300" had come out.)

Late in the day.....

"Oh! My brother! You've been WOUNDED!!!!"

...two 20s had allowed a goblin with a crude weapon to deliver 3pts of damage, and they treated it like a mortal injury in progress.

The whole room fell into spasms.

To revive this old thread, the first encounter in [redacted] was a very dangerous extraplanar creature. In round 1, the party wasn't getting anywhere with it, so in round 2 as a summoner I went for broke : Dismissal! The GM noted that "This could be a game changer," and then proceeded to fail the save. Poof!
