I could not find another topic like this on the forums, so I decided to make one myself! I feel so special.

Whether or not you drew it yourself, got it as a gift, or bribed it out of someone else (call it 'commissioned' if you want) with promises of doughnuts and car rides, link to the relevant pictures here, if you want to! If you feel a little wordy, you can type a bit about the characters and the art too.

Anyway, I commissioned three pieces from a friend of all nine of my characters, spread across the three. The first done was Devil Children, my two tiefling characters, who were Infernal before it was cool. Asta is a Winter Witch, and Taraclus is a Dervish Magus.
The second one was recently finished, the Horde of Newcomers, with all of my lower-level characters. From left to right, there is a Shoanti Paladin of Erastil, an Ice Elemental Sorceror (I was surprised how well he came out), a Varisian Inquisitor of Sivanah, the gunslinger Marshall Jawson, and the erudite Crypt Breaker/Chirugeon Tanis Halfmain, holding a mug of kahve.

Looking forward to seeing your characters immortalized in ink!... Well, pixels, but you get my point.

The art which I have for my PCs is the table tents, which were done by a dear friend of mine (she's a fellow gamer, as well as a graphic designer and web developer).

Here's Xan Stormblade, my rogue (pirate archetype). Those of you with whom I played at GenCon will recognize her. She died in the Temple of Empyrial Enlightment on Saturday afternoon, but she's feeling much better now. ;-)

Xan's twin sister, Catraoine Becket, is a paladin of Iomedae, and the polar opposite to her sister in most ways.

(In both cases, the model is actress Stana Katic, from the TV show "Castle".)

Some time ago, a wonderful artist painted this lovely portrait of me. I have nothing but adoration for it.

Chuckle...yeah, for most of my characters (in PFS and elsewhere), I have a particular person (usually an actor, sometimes a musician) in mind as a "model" for them. Suzanne does a great job of finding a picture of the person in question when she makes my table tents.

One of these days Mike, I may have to ask you about an introduction to Suzanne, to see if she's open to taking other clients :)

The only problem I have seen with getting art, is if the characters die! The last two of my characters to not have art were the ones I played today. One was fine, but the other was nearly killed permanently. I was texting my friend to ask how much work she would lose! Fortunately, he was resurrected, and got a nifty giant scar across his throat.

I'm a fan of hers as well. Too cool. If you follow her on Twitter send it. She enjoys stuff like this.

If they die frame the picture with a black ribbon across a corner. It'll be a conversation piece when people visit.

I just wish I could find a female human musket weirder that does look like a pirate and/or a pole dancer for a mini.

Wow. Now that is absolutely *GREAT*!! Eva's work is amazing, and I follow her quite a bit. That's really cool that you got a commissioned piece from a Grade A Pro like Eva.

Why?

It's true. Either you get a female gunslinger who is a pirate, usually with a pistol or one wearing a bikini top and daisy dukes while the male figures of the line are fully covered. I've seen minis of females in full armor but never with a gun.

This is great too!

I'll try to scan mine in, but I'm not 100% happy with it, but it was free so I can't complain.

So ... I have a Szcarni gypsy, that's had an incarnation or two, and is currently a PFS Character.
His name is Meritaelin Vindreşkaya, and I drew him myself, as I am a Freelance Illustrator.
Also, I had a couple recently published in Paizo's Wayfinder #7 e-zine. Here are Vivien Soucy/Simon Garcon and Hector Menelaus.
There's Caldaerin (and another), and also Mordenkainen as published in the Oerth Journal #25 (for those who remember his spells).
And though he's not a PFS character, for those who liked Russell Crowe in "Gladiator", there's even "Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions".

There's a great deal more like these. Take a look at my Dropbox Gallery and be certain to take a look at the Gaming Sketches. If you're interested in a commission, I'm really reasonable about rates. Contact me off-thread via Private Message. :) Thanks for enjoying my artwork!

Thanks to a lucky find on a website called Fiverr, I was able to get some art for my character, Captain Julian Ignatius John Patrick "Black" Ramsey:

And here they are! These are my highest level characters, Raltz Nighvanus the Bladebound Magus and Graeyar the Fighter, doing something which I spent too much gold and a feat on doing, and has never done it in-game. One day!

I think that it is cool that there are artists out there doing this kind of stuff!
It's how Hugo Solis got into being one of the stable of Paizo's artists., after all. Glad to see others out there working hard to make a name.

I have been known to use GIMP on Paizo's Iconics or illustrations from the blogs or other products. When I played the pregen Gunslinger, I noticed that her sheet showed only one pistol while her illustration showed two, so I did a little editing to put her sword in her hand, then shrunk it way down and printed my own pawn.

The artwork is technically good, but to me, they come across more like PowerPoint presentations than character portraits. :)

Quick doodle of my aberrant-bloodline sorcerer Imeyne in all her overly-enthusiastic, wannabe glory.

Alas, that's acne rather than scales or marks of arcane destiny on her face.

Kuro Poe ...
That's nice! I love stuff like that, because I can't ever seem to make myself to "fun" illustrations like that! I alsways seem to do photorealism, and can't get my brain into a different mode.

May I ask who did that? Was it done for you, or by you?

Grand Lodge 4/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I drew it. I prefer the humorous and cartoony pen and paper roleplay illustrations because I feel like they match my experience of what happens in the game far more than the super-dramatic or super-badass digital illustrations.

I have never given photo realism a proper go because it just seems too hard to me now! The time taken to refine the craft to a level where I'd find it acceptable is just too long for me to think about!

If you do want to develop a good cartoony style, you should definitely check out some of the old Will Eisner instruction books though. They have some great tips for character design.

If anyone has an itch to do a portrait of a male, heroic oni-spawn tiefling cleric of Iomedae who originally hails from Tian Xia but now goes by the name of "Thomas", and if you have no desire for any sort of compensation for your work whatsoever, feel free to give it a go! ;)

There was a guy at Ruby Phoenix in Brisbane doing sketches of characters. I coloured the one he did of Zaheeda (Kelishite paladin) and here are the results:

Surely, she should have a name by now? Paizo staffers, please?
I always think of her as 'Mikaze', after the most prolific poster here, using the character's 'happy' avatar.
