Match 2- Lathavos vs Darius

Play-by-Post

By random roll Darius gets to face a lathavos, a monstrosity that can reach the entire map, and has several ways to kill you. There are not many beings in the multiverse that are more evil and sadistic. I would suggest he kill it quickly. These two combatants also find themselves in an area with no obstructions. It is just a man with his weapons vs a creature from the Abyss.

Iathavos vs Darius Map

The monster can reach the entire map so unless you are flying it can reach you, assuming it is not flying. It is represented by the red area.

Init for Iathavos:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Initiative roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Round 0
Init 24

Darius felt the evil radiate through the arena even before the gate opened. Truly this would be an epic battle. He had been prepared to fight a paladin before the coward had fled rendering most of his spells and abilities he had prepared useless. He made a note to hunt down the coward and send his butchered corpse to the dragon's next of kin. Also to hunt down the organizer of this tourney and ensure they do not contaminant the future generations with their offspring.

He quickly prepared himself activating his boots(Std).

The monster takes no noticable actions to buff itself. The match begins.

Round 1
Init 24

The gates open and Darius suddenly blurs with speed as he charges the monster dodging past its attempts to attack him as he closed the distance and swung his blade at it with a single powerful stroke. Negative energy flows through his blade as he strikes the creature a deadly stroke.

(Actions: Burst of Speed(Swift) to grant him extra movement speed and provoke no AoO for 1 round. Charge Action to make a power attack against the creature as well as using the conductive ability of the blade to channel his Touch of Corruption as a free action once per round on a hit. This uses two charges of the ability.)

Charge w/ Power attack: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (18) + 27 = 45 Crit Threat
Crit Confirmation roll(note Critical Focus feat): 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (14) + 31 = 45

Weapon Damage: 1d10 + 32 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 32 + (1, 4) = 45 Negative Energy damage from ToC: 10d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 3, 2, 4, 4, 2, 3, 4) = 31
Extra Crit damage to weapon damage: 1d10 + 32 ⇒ (8) + 32 = 40

Also DC 30 fort save if critically hit(Stunning Critical feat), Success means only staggered and failure means stunned, duration on both is 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds.

Vicious damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Also for reference though I doubt it matters, the weapon is slashing, magic, evil, adamantine.

Round 1:

Fort save:1d20 + 28 ⇒ (11) + 28 = 39

The creature howls in pain from the blow delivered by Darius. His eyes seen to glaze over momentarily before he retaliates.

Ichor (Su)-Darius make a DC 32 reflex self or gain the entangled condition as a thick and string black substance leaves the creature's body, and tries to attach itself to you . <--This ability is automatically activated, not even a free action.

Swift Action-The creature reaches out and tries to touch you.
Touch Attack-1d20 + 31 ⇒ (14) + 31 = 45

Darius make a DC 27 will save

Standard action:The creature tries to move over top of you. You can make an attack of opportunity or make a reflex save to avoid being engulfed. If you take the AoO then you do not get a reflex save.

The reflex save DC is 36.

(Edited- Looked something up and was my mistake. Worry not about this message.)

Reflex Save vs Entanglement: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 45
Will save: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (4) + 28 = 32
Reflex vs Engulfment: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (6) + 25 = 31

Darius slashes through the grotesque hide of the creature laying it open even as black ichor spurts out in torrents. He doesn't stop moving, avoiding the black stains, even in his full plate demon armor he moves with speed and skill. At least up until it engulfed him in its flesh.

Round 2
Init 24

Darius now inside the monster reached out with a single hand and touched it to channel corruptive negative energy through it to rot it from within.

Touch of Corruption touch attack(No provoke): 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (2) + 26 = 28
ToC Damage (Negative energy, Bypasses DR): 10d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 6, 1, 2, 1, 2, 5, 5) = 33

Round 2:
The beast has Darius pinned, who retaliates with a burst of negative energy, but it seems some of the monster's wounds heal themselves.

The creature is content to keep Darius within the confines of its flesh, confident that he will succumb to its powers.

Abyssal Transformation (Su)=no action required. You are immune to this so you don't have to make a save.

Round 3
Init 24

Darius found himself being jostled and nestled within the folds of the beast while ooze and evil energies rippled over him tried to corrupt and mutate what he'd given up long ago. "Ah just like back in the womb...guess I'll just do what I did then." Claws suddenly shot out of his gauntlets and he droves them toward the creatures insides with shredding motions.

Full attack Demon Claws(-2 penalty included for grappled): 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (12) + 25 = 37
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Full attack Demon Claws(-2 penalty included for grappled): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 20 = 32
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Full attack Demon Claws(-2 penalty included for grappled): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Full attack Demon Claws(-2 penalty included for grappled): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Any hits require a fort save with a DC so low its basicly just to see if you fail on a 1. If so then contract the disease Shakes and takes 1d8 dex damage per the Contagion spell(It is a function of the claws in the demon armor).

Round 3.
Fort save:1d20 + 28 ⇒ (4) + 28 = 32
The Iathavos realises that having this one inside of him is a bad idea so he move away releasing the humanoid creature.
You get an AoO.

The creature attempts to smack Darius away.

CMB vs 43:1d20 + 47 ⇒ (16) + 47 = 63
Slam damage: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (6, 8) + 15 = 29

Darius finds himself flying through the air away from the monster, and ends up on the ground.

AoO with Nodachi now that he can use both hands: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (1) + 31 = 32
Damage: 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
(Missing unfortunately. How does it move back without exiting the arena? Not sure I've seen it move on the map so its hard to tell where its bulk lies...it has to be right up against the edge though I imagine.)

Round 4
Init 24

Darius lands on his back. Quickly activates his ring of spell turning expecting another magical assault from the creature now that it has released him. He stands up once more simply righting himself with his flying power and he looks down at his ichor covered armor. "Is that all you've got?"

Darius activates Spell Turning(std), Stands up(move)

When he engulfed you he had to move forward to do so. I just forgot to move him on the map.

Bottom of round 4
The creature shoots some type of magical ray from one of its eyes.
ranged touch attack:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24

Make a DC 32 Fort save

If you fail take: 40d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 2, 4, 2, 4, 5, 1, 2, 5, 5, 3, 1, 6, 3, 1, 4, 1, 3, 2, 5, 3, 3, 1, 2, 3, 2, 4, 4, 4, 5, 2, 6, 5, 3, 5, 5, 6, 5) = 136
If you make the save take: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 6, 3) = 17

Fort save: 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (4) + 43 = 47

Round 5
Init 24

Darius charges at the beast once more, his blade humming suddenly with sonic energy.

Swift: Resounding Blow spell
Full: Charge

Charge attack with Nodachi and w/ Power attack: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (10) + 27 = 37
Weapon Damage: 1d10 + 32 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 32 + (2, 4) = 46Sonic damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4Negative Energy from Conductive(YoC): 10d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 2, 4, 6, 2, 3, 2, 6) = 31

Vicious damage to self: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Round 5

Attack of Opportunity(Trip):1d20 + 47 ⇒ (17) + 47 = 64

Darius attempts a charge, but never leaves his square as the creature takes his legs out from under him

Full Attack(power attack)
Attack: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (8) + 25 = 33
Damage: 4d6 + 27 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 1) + 27 = 38

Attack: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (15) + 25 = 40
Damage: 4d6 + 27 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 3) + 27 = 45

Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 20 = 29
Damage: 2d8 + 13 ⇒ (5, 7) + 13 = 25

Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21
Damage: 2d8 + 13 ⇒ (6, 8) + 13 = 27

Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30
Damage: 2d8 + 13 ⇒ (5, 3) + 13 = 21

Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
Damage: 2d8 + 13 ⇒ (3, 1) + 13 = 17

Even with you being prone it seems that I only hit you once.

As the rounds go on the creature's wounds continue to heal.

Make a reflex save again. DC 32 to avoid being entangled.

I was supposed to do it in the other rounds, but I forgot about it*. The strands go foward 5 feet every round. Google docs is not coming up for me, but I believe they are in every square except for the back row that you started in.

*We will just say your deity blocked the tentacles for those rounds.

Reflex save vs tentacles: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (20) + 25 = 45

Round 6
Init 24

Stupid of him to have ignored its reach...not a mistake he intended to make twice. He defensively cast a spell of Freedom of Movement before he slowly stood up guarding himself against the creatures attacks. After standing he would let his touch of corruption flow through him regenerating his own wounds.

Standard:Casting defensively: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (20) + 30 = 50 vs DC 23 base
Move:Stand up provoking AoO.
Swift:Touch of Corruption: 10d6 + 20 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 5, 6, 1, 3, 1, 1, 6) + 20 = 51 healed

If allowed to take 5 ft step do so toward the creature.(I've had DMs rule that standing up isn't movement just using your move action, I'll leave it as an if statement so you can decide.)

With a +30 you can't even fail on a 1. You can just say you are doing it to save yourself the trouble of typing the dice code.

Standing up is not movement so you are allowed to take a 5 foot step foward.

Round 6

The creatures wounds continue to heal at an alarming rate.

AoO attack(power attack still on):1d20 + 25 ⇒ (17) + 25 = 42
Damage: 4d6 + 27 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 1) + 27 = 36

Casting defensively(modifier to high to fail) vs DC 26 to dispel the sword

caster level check:1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30
Number of rounds the sword will be dispelled:1d4 ⇒ 4

PS: If you cast a spell on the sword those spells are still active. The sword itself however is just a masterwork sword until dispel magic runs its course which will be at the bottom of round 10.

(Actually DM I think you may have forgotten about Spell turning? Going to hold off on posting my turn action until confirmed my sword is at full power.)

Yeah I did forget about spell turning.

Knowledge (arcana) to know which spell made the spell go back to him=autopass.

Just to make sure we are on the same page

Quote:
Timed Durations: Many durations are measured in rounds, minutes, hours, or other increments. When the time is up, the magic goes away and the spell ends. If a spell's duration is variable, the duration is rolled secretly so the caster doesn't know how long the spell will last.
Quote:
Spell turning also fails to stop touch range spells. From seven to ten (1d4+6) spell levels are affected by the turning. The exact number is rolled secretly.

edit: I will roll in invisible castle.

edit2:The creature is not happy when his own magic rebounds back toward him. He sends you a message telepathically promising to kill you.

(Just note that the magic item doesn't have a variable roll. It just automatically does 9 levels per charge.)

Round 7
Init 24

Darius moves forward another 5 ft the ichor trying to wrap itself around him to no avail thanks to the freedom of movement he now possessed. With the endurance of one who has shed his mortality for power he stepped forward through the powerful blow and unleashed a furious counter attack.

Swift action: Litany of Defense on self. (Doubles armor enhancement bonus for 1 round)
Full round action: Full Attack with Nodachi
Attack 1: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (2) + 31 = 33

Extra Weapon damage: 1d10 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
If Critical successful two fort save rolls required, one for the effect of Stunning critical feat, the other for the effect of Resounding Blow, DC 30 and DC 27 respectively. 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds for Stunning critical and 1d6 ⇒ 2 rounds of deafness for Resounding blow.

Fort save vs 30: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (16) + 28 = 44

Fort save vs 27: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (9) + 28 = 37

The monster is taken aback by your assault and uses Horrific Appearance against you, but since you are undead you are immune to it.

Make the reflex save(32) for the Ichor on your turn.

His spellcraft allows him to know which spell just cast.

edit:I forgot you had freedom of movement up. Ignore the reflex save.

(Note he is staggered for 2 rounds still due to the stunning crit feat. So at the end of round 9 he should be back to normal.)

Round 8
Init 24

Darius continues ripping through the creature as fast as it can heal itself ignoring the tendrils that desperately try to grasp him. He Unleashes another furious assault on the creature! "Feel the vengeance of the dark powers...you are but an insignificant worm compared to their might!"

(Does it have improved disarm or does it provoke with its disarm attempt? Either way my readied action triggers but I may also get a AoO as well.)

Strike Back readied action attack: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (10) + 31 = 41
