Grat App , its almost like having Combat Manager windows program on your phone or tablet

Two things it could borrow from Combat manager

1.Import character files from from Herolab , I understand hrolab does a XML save and a text export

2, The ability to apply damage or healing to more than one monster/character at once.Currently healing bursts and fireballs are hard work!

a built in dice roller adding the hit bonuses or skill bonus would be the icing on the cake!

Got the app a week ago and had a chance to try it whie GM-ing a couple of days ago. So far, I like what I see.

I do have a few things I'd like to suggest, though:

1. Allow healing a creature above its maximum HP to simulate temporary HP or temporary increases to constitution like barbarian rage.

2. An option to show the stat blocks of monsters as they are presented in the bestiaries. Especialy their attacks. Some of us prefer to use a real die for rolling instead of an app. As it is now, you need to go into the creature stats, then into the attack options and then open the attcks before you can even start rolling.

1) Really hard

2) Already in my TODO List

Can you explain the "dice roller adding the hi bonuses"?

I got a few more suggestions:

1. It would be nice if custom Cs marked as NPCs could be added multiple times.

2. The AC types for the custom Cs are in the wrong order. You have marked them as AC - flat-footed - touch, but the usual order is AC - touch - Flat-footed. That's only a minor issue but it kinda confused me a couple of times and is hopefully an easy fix.

3. Deactivating all kinds of spellcheck and autmatical word-completion would be nice. For some reason whenever I try to type something, weird things happen because some spellcheck or other things try to mess with my input.

Not sure if number 3 is something you can do but I think there's no spellcheck in your PRD-app (which needs an update for new content, by the way ;) ) so I hope you can somehow manage to do it.

up :)

Any chance that winter touched will be added to the templates available when selecting a monster? Also the ability to save and load battles to an external location would be handy, people could then share encounters either created from AP's or their own custom creations.

IS winter touche OGL? Can you post a link?

For import and export, I have already implemented those funcionality. You should receive the upgrade in a couple of hours.

Thanks for the quick response Takilian, I am unsure where winter touched fits under the OGL but I suspect there are people that can answer it. It's a template from the first part of the RoW AP The Snows of Summer.

Any word on the format the app expects the custom mobs to be in Takilian?

Mendaril wrote:

I do not think I understand the question.

I try to respond the same.

It works this way, the new monsters that you have saved using the "Alteration System", now appears in the list "Manage My Mobs".
From this list, you can rename, delete, export and import these monsters.
The format is not important for the user, it is used only within the app.

Just downloaded the app on my kindle fire and am having trouble editing the monsters. is there a step by step guide available somewhere?

No, sorry.

What is the problem?

I have a couple of monsters added to the battle. I am looking at the screen that shows each of the monsters in boxes. I click on one to look at the descriptions, click the pencil icon at the top, and it opens a screen that says Alter whatever I have open, but there is no boxes displayed to change anything. The only thing I see is a box at the bottom asking for a name and a couple of buttons that say add mob as, new, help, and save. I don't understand how to edit the monsters.

Also, I saw menu choice to manage my mobs with a button at the bottom saying import. How do I create mobs(which I am assuming are the monster files)?

Thanks
Mike

You have two options:

1) on Alter System click "New" and then you will choose the attribute to alter.
2) on monster details, long click on any attributes, like AC;

For "Manage My Mobs", when you save with name an altered mobs, from Alter System, this save mob appear in this list. In this way you can import/export custom mobs among multiple devices or share it on web.

Thanks for the response. Another question. Is it possible to set all the monsters to have max hit points? I don't want to have to edit each one every time I start another battle. Also, when I go in and edit the monsters, I have to figure out how much I want to add for each stat. I would like to be able to just enter how much I want the stats set for. Is that possible?

For max hit point, no. But you can use a workaround: create the battle, export it and when you want start again the battle, you can import it.

No, It is not possible enter how much you want the stats, only the modifier.

I just purchased this app for my original Kindle Fire and it seems to be incompatible. The options bars both on the top and bottom cover up some of the buttons that I see on your video. It would be nice if this was mentioned somewhere in your description. Also, why on earth isn't there some sort of instructions on how to use this program? I guess it might be self-evident if I could see the rest of the screen but I wasted over an hour pulling out my hari trying to figure out what I was doing wrong before I got frustrated enough to really look at your "tutorial".

scott lucas wrote:

It seems odd to fault the author for not providing instructions on how to use the program, only to then, in the next sentence, admit that you didn't bother to look at the instructions the author provided on how to use the program. If a tutorial isn't cutting it, then you might want to be a bit more specific on the type of instructions you're looking for (i.e. FAQs, diagrams, usage cases, etc.).

What should I mention?

Amazon does tests on applications, and if they are not compatible they are not published.

There aren't tutorials, because the app is self-explanatory.

And to be sure, before publishing, I took four random people and I let them use the app.
Also, from my experience, users do not read the tutorials.
Some tips on some functions, are shown within the application when necessary, and are repeated four times.
Inside the app you can send me any feedback, if you have problems, you can send me an email. Generally I respond very quickly.

I almost forgot. There are always "Lite" versions of my applications, which serve precisely to try and see if you like.
Honestly, I do not know what other kind of support to offer.
I can give you my number and give phone support.

One more question. Do the creatures show the hit dice somewhere and I am just missing them, or are they not in there? We use max hit points, and I am finding I have to pull out the beastary to figure out the hit points, then also figure out how much I have to change the hit points by rather then just putting the total hit point in. Other than that, I am enjoying the app.

I really don't know. Some time I release three upgrades in two weeks, ant other times one upgrade in six months.

First, after looking at what I posted, it did indeed sound a bit peevish. Was tired and frustrated I guess and threw a temper tantrum more or less. So, I apologize Tak.

Second, let me explain what I am experiencing. When I use my original Kindle Fire, the app doesn't move to full screen so therefore the options buttons on the bottom and the bar along the top that houses the time and system options remains on the screen. After watching the video, and I did watch the video 'tutorial' prior to purchasing for the previous poster, in greater detail, it appears that those buttons that are remaining on the screen are covering up some of the functionality of the app. After researching, apparently there are some apps that code in the full screen option and some that do not. I just assumed that this was one that didn't.

As a result, I am unable to create a battle. I can view the monster information but I don't see any of the buttons along the top of your ui that I saw in the video or anything like Alter System as you mentioned in an above post.

No big deal. It's $4.00 and it hardly hurts the wallet. Like I said, I saw a shiny new toy and wanted to use it the following morning with our monthly get-together. I used it for the monster database but that's all it can do atm.

On a side note, I really like what it can apparently do for others =).

Can you send me a screenshot?

I'm not sure of what happen. I sold a lot of app for Kindle and this is the first time that I receive this feedback.
However, I think that you can cancel the order on Amazon, but perhaps now is too late.

I just tried again the app with the emulator for Kindle Fire. I still do not understand what is the problem.

Screenshot Kindle Fire HD Emulator

Nah like I said it's no big deal. Not sure how I would send a screenshot from an Original Kindle Fire. Maybe that functionality is on the new ones but I'm not aware of it on the old.

But for example, my user interface is COMPLETELY different in terms of the way it looks than the one shown in the YouTube video. Probably just the different between the android and ipad app I would imagine. I just tried to create a battle as I was typing this as you did at or around 2:09 of your video. When I open the app, it goes straight to the alphabetical monster list with Round 1 on the top right of the screen. The only things I can do at this point is to scroll the list, use the search function at the top, click on an individual monster for deatils or use the standard Fire buttons along the top and bottom. The top buttons are simply for the Kindle Fire itself. Things like brightness and wifi etc. Along the bottom are the Home, Back, options and the search magnifying glass buttons. If I click the options button along the bottom, Load Battle, Manage Battles, Manage My Mobs, Add Monster, Custom C's and More appear.

Load Battle does nothing as I can't add monsters to a battle at this point.

Manage Battles brings up a list of the battles that I created but only has a Disk icon which when I click it it tells me that something was exported.

Manage my mobs brings me to a blank screen with Round 1 on the top left and Manage My Mobs along the top right with an up and down arrow to the bottom left, Import in the bottom middle and Clear All on the bottom right.

Add monster just brings me back to the monster list. I noticed on your video that when you hit the + button it actually added the monster to the battle. When I click it, it takes me to the template selection window.

Custom C's takes me to the screen where I guess you can put in the info for your pc's.

After watching the video again I have to admit that I am a bit frustrated. What I have looks nothing compared to the apple version. I should have tried the Light I guess. Maybe I'll get it for my iPhone and iPad. Dunno. Usuaully just use the Fire for PF apps and whatnot.

I have nothing to do with iPhone's app, just for clarity.
The Youtube Video refer to the Tablet Version with Android 4.0. You have a Tablet with Android 2.3.
I officially don't support this version, but it works.

Follow this steps:

1) open the app;
2) from the monster list, click the "+" button of one monster;
3) choose "none" from template message box;
4) click back button;

You simply don't have the "TOP BAR" of Anroid 4.0, but you can use all the function of this app, from the "option button", and you should use the back button in the bottom, while in Android 4.0 the back button is also in the "TOP BAR".

Now, do it works?
Is there any other problems?

I was able to add a creature so that worked. I'll play around with it and see what else I can do as well. Anything that I can't figure out I'll just chalk up to non-compatability with Android 2.3. The whole Android 4.0 vs. 2.3 explains a bunch though. At least now I understand why there are differences which helps a lot. Thanks again.

The only difference is in in the TOP BAR. No other difference.
However, I almost forget, rotate your tablet to landscape mode.

Takilian, Is there any chance that in a future update you could provide an option that allows for more verbose menu entries and captions?

Also, there are a few instances in which it would be good to have labels under the fill-in fields.
.
.

Examples:

  • Custom Cs -> Custom Creatures
  • ST -> Saves
  • TS -> whatever that's short for (Templates?)
  • Labels for Fort, Ref, Will and Full, FF, and Touch ACs on the Custom Creature screen. (You and I seem to prefer the Full, FF, Touch method whereas others prefer Full, Touch, FF.)

Lastly, is there any chance you could implement a feature that allows users of the paid version to sync their data to their Google account? I know of at least one app (Clipper+) that does this and it's extremely handy. Even if it was a few extra dollars for an upgrade it would definitely be worth it.

Keep up the great work! :)
