Can a human sorcerer bearing a rock with Light cast on it (allowing him to see 30 feet in an unlit room) cast Grease on spaces he cannot see, such as spaces 45 feet away?

Yes. Of course, he will not know who or what may be in the area where he's casting.
He can't cast targeted spells, though, if he can't see the targets.

Quantum,

As it is a targetted spell (whether you cast it on a square or item) you would not be able to cast it if you can't see the areas, correct? His example suggets he has some light, so no problem, you can cast it.

Woah. Grease actually targets an area. I did not realize that.

No, you can target something you can't see, so you couldn't cast Grease onto an area you can't see.

In the OPs example, some of the numbers are wrong. Light[/t] illuminates a radius of 20' normal and a further 20' dim. A sorcerer would not be able to see a square 45' away, so he couldn't cast [i]Grease there.

Liberty's Edge

As noted, light has a 20' radius of full light and 20' of dim. At 45 feet, he has line of effect, but not line of sight. To cast a targeted spell, such as grease, the caster needs line of effect and line of sight. To cast on effect spell, he only needs line of effect.

So, grease, no, but fireball yes.
