Need Some Help With a Fighter / Rogue Crossbowman Build

Advice

So as my title suggests I'm thinking about making a Human Rogue with a two level dip in Fighter (for the feats) and I would like some feedback. He would be Human using a heavy repeating crossbow and I'd probably take the sniper archetype for the rogue becuase he would be more of a combat rogue than a skillmonkey. So here's the guy:

Garen Glendor
Human
20 pt buy
Str:12 (2)
Dex:16 (10)
Con:12 (2)
Int:18 (10 + 2 racial)
Wis:10 (0)
Cha:7 (-4)

Here are all the Feats I'm going to be taking (using combat trick as my talent until at least level 7)

Level (Fighter) 1: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Heavy Repeating Crossbow), Rapid Reload, Point Blank Shot
Level (Fighter) 2: Precise Shot
Level (Rogue) 3: Focused Shot
Level (Rogue) 4: Deadly Aim
Level (Rogue) 5: Rapid Shot
Level (Rogue) 6: Crossbow Mastery
Level (Rogue) 7:Vital Strike

Any ideas on how to make him better? Thanks.

I would recommend being half-elf instead, and using ancestral arms to pick up a light repeating crossbow, if you're married to the concept. A light crossbow with rapid reload is better in every way unfortunately, but if you like the concept, half-elf would be better since you get low-light vision too, meaning you won't be as hampered by low light (which would mean you can't sneak attack anyone if they aren't clearly lit!). Oh, you're going for a one-shot-one-kill type build...uh...heavy repeating crossbow will work fine for that, since you won't be getting more than 1 attack per round.

Ask your GM about using this sneak attack variant if you like it (or the book it's published in :)). We have a rogue crossbowman playing with it, and he's able to do quite a bit of damage often due to it, when it'd be hard to get sneak attack at range with a plain rogue.

I don't believe that vital strike and focused shot work, unfortunately. VS is a specific type of standard action and focused shot is just a standard action. Definitely ask your GM though, since it won't be an overpowered combination.

Instead of half-elf or human, any of the races that can get the ability to reduce the penalty from Sniping would be great. I think that'd be halfling.

Something amusing you could do as a halfling with that racial trait (swift as shadows) is choose the Go Unnoticed feat. This would let you make a stealth check against all flat-footed enemies on your first round of combat (or something like that). You could then make your way to cover to snipe from, without having been seen by all.

If you going the crossbow master route, which it appears u are, id drop either focus shot or vital strike as there both standard actions and cannot be used together(baring gm approval i suppose). I would drop vital strike if your wanting the high int. Stat wise you want dex to be your highest stat due to deadly aim offsetting ur attack bonus, so id switch dex and int. Possibly even start with somthing like this instead

str-12
dex-16+2
con-14
int-15+1 at 4th
wis-10
cha-7

Of course ranged can get away with less hp, but at d8's for the majority of your career u might find the 14con better severing than a 12. Also im sure its been mentioned to death, but going the bow route is in everyway superior to the crossbow route. Although i guess its not always about optimization.. Hope this helps and GL.

I can't do half elves becuase I'm in a campaign without elves. Why is a light repeating better, they both need a full round to reload so doesnt that mean rapid reload will just make it a move action to reload? Also if I take a light crossbow will I not need Crossbow Mastery?

Shadow Lodge

How about Kirin Strike? It allows you to add your Int bonus twice to melee or ranged attack and requires only a swift action. Reuires lots of knowledges, Improved Unarmed Strike and Kirin Style, but it's far more worth it than Focused Shot for an intelligent character.

Vital Strike feels pretty bad, but for a single shot character it and the correspong Improved and Greater feats along with the Devastating Strike feats are probably the only viable way to remain competent. Greater Devastating+Vital combined with Deadly Aim and Kirin Strike is going to be quite the howitzer though.

What book is Kirin Strike in?
