Well I imagine most PFS players see the same table mates most of the time. So there are likely players who see clerics all the time and other who see them never.

there are a LOT of classes. this means there are a LOT of different things at the table. - and only 6 slots. Add in regional differences and some people will say "Where are all the Barbarians?" or "Does anyone actually run Wizards?"

Start a poll.
I run 8 PCs that have reached 2nd level at least. Two have levels of Cleric.
My wife runs 4, one is a Cleric.
My son runs 3, one is a Cleric.

by my count that makes 15 PCs, with 5 Clerics. Score is

4 in 15.

next person?

I have played my character from level 1 to 6 and I have only seen a cleric twice... Nosig, your wife played one and I had a half orc. I have played with almost every other class more often then I have a Cleric. I have been going to the PFS Game nite since Mid May and I have yet to play with a cleric their

You had a samurai at your table both slots this past Saturday.

I guess you are right. I wasn't equating the mounted combat focus with a samurai.

at Game Nite:

my son has played his cleric from 1st to retirement.
I've played Giamo to 10th level (I don't normally take judge credit with a cleric, so he's played most all these)
Buba is 5th now...
If we figure 30 PCs that would be a mix of 1 in 10 - if there are no other clerics (and I've seen two low level Neg-Channeling clerics there lately).

what are you doing to drive us away I.M.Knight? (lol! really I think it's just more luck of the draw. I'd kind of like to walk thru the room and ask everyone what they are running...) I have never seen a Samuri there, or a Cavalier, and only one ninja, one magus, one druid, one sorcerer, ...

You know, I bet it's just that we are NOTICING when there is not a cleric at the table. When was the last time you've seen a Wizard? or a druid?

Shadow Lodge 4/5

In my experience, both PFS and PF in general, Druids are extremely common (I think I've had one in every game I've played honestly), and Wizards OR Sorcerer is also pretty common. Not evergame, but easily at least half. Paladin is also very common as are Inquisitors (best of Paladin and Cleric +). I'm the only Cleric I've seen played.

My guess is the title draws those that play Clerics, and most other people just ignor it. :)

The Exchange 5/5

likely... maybe we should start another thread titled "what class PCs are you playing in PFS"

My current chars

rogue 8/ranger 2
Sorc 5 (dead in dawn of the scarlet sun, was going pure sorc DD)
wizard 1/fighter 1 (going eldritch knight to show they are more fun than magi)
sythesist 1/ranger 1 (trying to build a balanced synth based around a balor as the eidolons form)
paladin 1/inquisitor 1 (semi retired as paladins are so strong)

new chars currently level 1
Cleric 1 (going cleric X/fighter 1 for heavy armor prof)
Monk 1 (going monk 2/fighter 5/hellknight X)

Running 2 mods this weekend (if my players all show up later on) so one of the new chars will be level 3 hopefully

Sczarni 5/5 * Venture-Lieutenant, Washington—Pullman

Current characters
12 Half Orc Inquisitor
11 Gnome Cloistered Cleric
6 Human Polearm Fighter
3 Half orc Dirge Bard
2 Elf Aquatic Druid
2 Gnome Barbarian
1 Dwarf Oracle
1 Dwarf Ranger
1 Ifrit Something(currently building)
1 Fetchling Fighter

So I sit at 5/10 for Characters that can heal w/o umd check, but only one combat healer.

Thanks for making me spit my drink all over my keyboard.

Look for it in Bestiary IV, Baird's Brain Baby, a CR 22 diminutive evil undead outsider.

OH MAN!!! I am already fearing what I have done.

On topic: Clerics were more popular in 2009 when PFRPG was released, everyone wanted to try out the channeling ability and new domain powers. Fast forward 3 years and there's several newer classes that offer healing for the party AND have some pretty awesome abilities not offered before. Why go back and play a cleric when you can play an Oracle or Inquisitor or a new Paladin archetype?

The other answer is that since in PFRPG anyone with CLW or Infernal Healing on their spell list or has access to a decent UMD skill check can heal the party out of combat. Most parties don't realize the real value of in-combat healing (besides stabilize) until higher levels when Breath of Life and Heal are being thrown around.

I'd say this is spot on.

Two of my last three Characters were Clerics, both were Undead Lords of Urgathoa. Truly the best Animaters in the game (Juju don't count!)

I have seen 3 Druids (Played wonder of the Weave Part 1 and 2 with two of them) and have played with 2 Wizards. I have NOT played with a Cleric in over 10 sessions...

These are my Planned Characters

Paladin (Mounted Style)5.2
Cleric of Sarenrea (Heroism and Sun) by then end of Gen con He should be 3.1 (if he doesn't Die...)
Forsight Wizard 0
Weapon Master/Inquisator (3/9)
Bard/Rogue (10/2)
Ranger
Cavalier 6/Sohei 6 (Depending on how they rule FOB)

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

1. Sillitta Ederus, Halfling Wizard 12, Andoran
2. Anneke Bjornsdottir, Human Barbarian/Fighter (Two-Handed Fighter) 6/4, Taldor
3. Mikki Muddytoes, Halfling Ranger/Rogue 3/3, Andoran
4. Danica, Human Monk (Martial-Artist)/Rogue (Acrobat) 2/4, Taldor
5. Zaminiyah al'Zaman, Human Fighter (Cad)/Rogue 2/3, Grand Lodge
6. Breck of Erastil, Human Druid 2, Andoran
7. Cala of Sarenrae, Aasimar Cleric 3, Silver Crusade

It's not the support role, it's that religion is a bad idea.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

What do you mean?

Grand Lodge 4/5

My PCs:

-01: Fighter 10, Cleric 1, Ranger 1
-02: Fighter (Polearm Master) 9
-03: Gunslinger 4
-04: Magus (Blade Bound, Kensai) 2
-05: Samurai 1
-06: Rogue 1
-07: Fighter (Lore Warden) 1 (I think)
-08: Fighter (Lore Warden) 4
-09: Cleric 1
-10: Magus 1
-11: Fighter (Archer) 2
-12: Sorcerer 2
-13: Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

So, 2 in 8 of my non-1st level PCs are clerics. Some of the others have UMD and/or other methods of providing healing, including most (all?) of my PCs with enough Fame having a Wand of CLW. The Sorcerer got a Wand of Magic Missile before he picked up his wand of CLW.

Silver Crusade 2/5

So, the other day I played my first time as a pure support character in PFS as a cleric. I built him more as a channel monkey/wizard-like character that just readied to use a wand of CLW every round and cast Bless at the beginning of combat.

I know why some people don't play this, because if you get a group which consisted of a bunch of incompetent players, you get hosed. Thank God my friend was there because if he wasn't, then we would have all died.

Bolding is mine.

Yeap. But this is true all the time, with any group. and as the back-line support character, where everything goes POP! you have a better chance of making it out alive - as long as you can run. (Potion of fly? Invisibility? gaseous form? or just plain Exped. Retreat). If you are the front line tank, and find that the rest of group "consisted of a bunch of incompetent players" while hip deep in swamp and 'gators, you are really "hosed"!
