Benefits of being a kobold?

Advice

Is there some benefit that outweighs the -4 strength and -2 Con and light sensitivity? +2 to Dex and +1 nat armor and +1 for size is nice but I don't feel like it outweighs the cons. I feel the only reason to play a kobold is for RP purposes. Please tell me there is some benefit I don't know about!

You're a kobold. And kobolds are awesome.

Yes, you get to brag that Meepo was your remote half-cousin.

They make amazing skill based rogues.

They are also a blast to RP.

I always play them sort of as a "Kobold supremacist" who makes up all kinds of racist insults about all the other party members.

Mechanically, the only real boons are the stuff you listed. The Dex bonus is great for Rogues and archery Rangers or Fighters, and the Trapsmithing bonuses are awesome if you play a trapper, which given that it's always a class skill for you why wouldn't you? They're good at stealth and can get a decent AC with their size, Dex, and Nat Armor.

Otherwise, as written it's all RP and flavor.

What Cheapy said. Kobolds make goblins look boring.

Tell every one that you are a "Lord of Kobold" and that a fleet of human refugees prays to you.

So say we all.

Their are also rules on the PFSRD (not sure what book they're from) where you choose a dragon color for the kobold, providing further bonuses. Greens get an extra +4 on stealth. Blacks get +4 swim, Reds get +2 caster level on fire spells, etc.

Green Kobold Ranger with a focus on traps and a level or two dip into a class with poison use could be terrifying.

If you allow 3.5 Races of the Dragon, they become almost overpowered.

Pathfinder seems to favor goblins as the underdogs though. (see Goblins of Golarion).

Two Words: Winged Kobolds.

Death from the sky, b~~~~es!

EDIT: Wow! Awesome post altering software. Good job Gary.

Kobolds can great AC, especially true with the favored class bonuses in the ARG, most of them are really nice flavor and have some really nice feats in my opinion.

Not all builds depend on great strength, if that is not what you are building on it is much less of a hindrance, besides nobody will expect great things from you and since they are so sub-optimal you can get away with a pretty high level of optimization or munchkinism and people don't even realize it !

you can be the nephew of PunPun, Foe of Intent.

Also you can stick it to the smooth skinned baby races because if you survive till the end of the day, then you knwo you're better then them.

Gunslinger Kobolds should get more grit because more things are challenging.

You get extra parking spots.

Now I'm just getting mean, and I stop.

p.s. kobolds are fun.
