Inspriation for PC: Based on Brotherhood of the Wolf a 2001 French historical drama film.

Summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brotherhood_of_the_Wolf
Beast: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_of_G%C3%A9vaudan
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Feh8Eqh4nWU

This film is loosely based on a real-life series of killings that took place in France in the 18th century and the famous legend around the Beast of Gévaudan. In the mid 1760s when a mysterious beast terrorized the province of Gévaudan and nearby lands.
Grégoire de Fronsac was a knight and the royal taxidermist of King Louis XV of France, and his Iroquois companion Mani, arrive to capture the beast.

The movie is amazing, Ive probably seen it 20 times.

To the meat of the post, How best to recreate the hero Grégoire de Fronsac with PFRPG???
I love the royal taxermist/gardener aspect and want to make sure this is included. Maybe a dip in Alcvhemist could compare of a few skill points. Or Brew (potion)/(posion)??

The campaign setting is not going to be Golarion but Atlas Games Northern Crown (the 3.0 Northern American setting)
Dagada Orden will be (PC) in the service of Louis de Baude Governor of Count Frontenac (ie, the head cheeze in charge of New France at the time) He has been dispatched with a group to settle a new fur trade fort in Western Algonkia. Its going to be a big Kingmaker rewrite but will be custom material after book 4.

For the melee aspect: Fighter?? Ranger ?? Cavalier??, Paladin?
In the movie climax de Fronsac, is pretty proficient with a dual wielding hunter knives/short swords and acrobatics (jumping and flipping around). Myself, Id rather do a two handed weapon build that I can quickdraw out with a ranged weapon.

20 point buy, race: Human.

I know there wasnt a AC in the movie but if my PC had an animal companion that would rock. Thanks in advance for any and all of the advice to come.

I haven't seen the movie, but from your description it sounds like ranger or one of it archtypes would be ideal. Maybe with a few levels of lore warden.

Just bump up your int so you can take some non-standard skills like acrobatics, alchemy, prof or craft taxidermist (not sure which that would be), some extra knowledge skills, etc...

I love the film and the character. I think you could represent him well as a Ranger with a dip into Alchemist (Vivisectionist?).

The Inquisitor class also seems to have the right sort of feel and abilities to represent him. He's hunting monsters and (eventually) church heretics, which is right up the Inquisitor's alley.

Two levels of Rouge (Poisoner) would give me these:

Poison Use (Ex)

At 1st level, a poisoner is trained in the use of poison and cannot accidentally poison herself when applying poison to a blade.

This ability replaces trapfinding.

Master Poisoner (Ex)

At 3rd level, a poisoner can use Craft (alchemy) to change the type of a poison. This requires 1 hour of work with an alchemist’s lab and a Craft (alchemy) skill check with a DC equal to the poison’s DC. If successful, the poison’s type changes to contact, ingested, inhaled, or injury. If the check fails, the poison is ruined. The poisoner also receives a bonus on Craft (alchemy) skill checks when working with poison equal to 1/2 her rogue level.

This ability replaces trap sense.

Im not sold on the rouge though, Ive never played one nor am I really a fan of the class.

Could the idea of the taxermist/gardener/botanist be played through an Alchemist dip instead? Alchemy, bomb 1d6, brew potion, mutagen, throw anything all seem pretty attractive and worth a single lvl dip.

I'd go TWF Ranger with Lycanthrope as his favored enemy. Maybe take a few levels in fighter, and pick up a crossbow with some silver tipped quarrels or something. A badger or bear animal companion would be sick. An Inquisitor would also be a cool class for your concept.

Ninja-ed by TombRobber on my own post re: alchemist

Right now Im leaning towards the ranger, some archetype maybe-maybe not.

I have thought about the inquisitor too, but I miss have both power attack and quickfire at lvl one like you can do with the ranger.

Any ideas/suggestions of different profession and crafting skills that may be useful.

profession: trapper, skinner, herbalist, gardner, brewer, tanner
craft: alchemy, leather, traps,

Grand Lodge

Inquisitor, all the way.

blackbloodtroll: I posted an inquisitor build the other day, in the same sub forum and same character concept.

There were many holes brought up and I am going back to the drawing board. I think a full BAB class is going to the way to go. Ranger of some sort may eventual win out, and at lvl 7 ill take leadership to be recruit Mani his Iroquoian sidekick.

Grand Lodge

Hmmm, in this case, you may be right. Perhaps I have a little too much love for the Inquisitor.

Re: Blackbloodtroll

Id give Inquisitor another shot if you can provide a few suggestions of the first 5-6 levels of the build. You cant get PA untill level 2 when you get BAB+1, Im also at a loss as how quickdraw could sneak in there so the switch-hitter concept could come into being.

Dark Archive

I have seen the movie and it is indeed good. Ranger Skirmisher archetype. He is a taxidermist not a monster hunter, and there really is no "werewolf" in the movie. Ranger is the best fit. He did learn some of Mani's fighting techniques it seems later in the movie, possibly add some monk levels if you want to add some more flare.

Excellent suggestions all so far, thanks so much.

Im going to be pondering the idea of a Ranger (Skirmisher)/Alchemist (vivisectionist) while out for sushi dinner. Wish me luck.

Ranger with a high intelligence and Improved unarmed Strike

Also Leadership and a bad@ss cohort

Love that movie.

I'm going to agree with the majority of the posts and actually point out an Archtype as well. I think a Ranger (Trophy Hunter) would fit quite well. I'd start with a level dip into Fighter to fill up on feats and represent his history as a soldier. You can pick a Fighter Archtype that seems best to you. The primary weapon of the time was guns and Fronsac seemed quite proficient. Stock up on Craft, Profession, and Knowledge skills.

Been thinking of Ranger (Skirmisher)/Alchemist (vivisectionist).

I happen to like the spell-less variant in KQ 11 instead. With this class I would get sneak attack at level 2. This makes the dip of Vivisectionist redundant and wasted.

Can i get some better suggestions please. I know it would be a step away from the core character, but the preservationist sounds cool. I wonder if you can use mutagens on the tiny, preserved specimens in bottles.

I have considered a fighter dip for feats but then I would have to invest some serious skill points into Alch and the craft skills.

Here is a Spell-less Ranger12/Alchemist 1

Ranger Lvl 1 : 1st favored enemy (Humanoid (human), track, wild empathy, Power attack, Quick Draw
Alchemist Lvl1: Bomb, Alchemy, brew potion, mutagen, throw anything
Ranger Lvl 2: Combat style feat (Two-Handed Weapon), stealth attack 1d6, FEAT
Ranger Lvl 3: 1st favored terrain (Forest), endurance, nature’s healing, +1 STR
Ranger Lvl 4: Hunter’s bond (Wolf), Ranger talent (Low-light Vision), FEAT
Ranger Lvl 5: 2nd favored enemy (Animal), fast movement +10 ft,
Ranger Lvl 6: Combat style feat XXX, stealth attack 2d6, FEAT
Ranger Lvl 7: Ranger talent (Favored Enemy Critical), woodland stride, +1 Dex
Ranger Lvl 8: 2nd favored terrain Mountain (including hills), swift tracker, FEAT
Ranger Lvl 9: Evasion, Ranger talent (Improved Tracking),
Ranger Lvl 10: 3rd favored enemy (Magical Beast), combat style feat, stealth attack 3d6
Ranger Lvl 11: Quarry, Ranger talent, FEAT
Ranger lvl 12: Camouflage, fast movement +20 ft.

Suggestions needed for feats and combat style feats.
