Yes Kids, it's another round of that feature you never asked for but are about to get... regardless, the Non-fan-servicey Hand Giveth, the Fan-Servicey Hand Taketh Away!
For this segment, the Non-Fan-Servicey Hand Giveth presents Polar Bear Cafe. It's what happens when humankind lives with sentient, sapient animal-kind in peaceful, civilized harmony. There's working-class Pandas and the cafe that everybody hangs around in. Managed by a Polar Bear with legal Canadian citizenship, no less. Very much a slow-paced, character-focused Slice of Life series for those interested in such.
I can make the disclaimer that I've only seen the first twenty-five episodes of this series; it may be possible that the following next 25 episodes could actually be filled with salacious homo-sapien, female-based fan-service that would make a perverse fan-service fanatic proud. In that case, feel free to excoriate me for my "deceptive" mislead. But given the general character designs of this series, it seems highly unlikely. The animal cast, though, remain covered in fur, scales, or feathers.
And now we get to the part where the Fan-Servicey Hand Taketh Away. Ever wondered if something very much like a Hellsing's Alucard-like Entity could ever possibly be re-purposed for some more mundane, domestic pursuit? Kamen No Maid Guy, an unlicensed 12 episode anime comedy series plus an OVA episode, will give a definite answer to that burning question.
Sure, there's the requisite fan-servicey moments, replete with nudity. The main female character is feisty and busty- and quick to resort to physically avenging slights (that's what happens when your bust has it's own fan-club; just the bust, mind you). Another female secondary character is suitably well-endowed, but no less physically capable. And all those villainous antagonists... well, you'll have to see them for yourselves.
Some folks might even find the humor/fan-service in this series to be questionable or even cringe-worthy. But it really doesn't matter all that much, because the titular character of the Masked Maid Guy ends up "stealing" the show with his decidedly, inhuman antics. And I'm not just saying any of this to score any of those sweet Maid Guy Badges. But they are truly something to behold.
| Here4daFreeSwag |
So...what is the fan-servicey hand doing?
Or do I not want to know?
It's kind of hard to explain? Heh, actually, it was a just a slight delay; you see, getting on the Masked Maid Guy's enemy "radar", can prove to be... rather inadvisable. So time consuming caution (to avoid detection) is a must. But you might get a sweet Masked Maid Guy badge as compensation for any inflicted trauma though. But only for designated, noncombatant civilians. ;)

Started watching Durarara!! last night. I got through the first few episodes and really liked it. Not sure what is going on at all, but I like the switching between different characters with no noticeable antagonistic plot they are all teaming up to solve (yet).
I'm up to Ep6, and the antagonistic plot seems to be gelling a bit more. So far I haven't seen any of the significant differences in time between the various segments that they had in Baccano!, but there is a lot of overlap between the episodes from different PoVs--seeing the same event from different perspectives. It's a good series.

Which came first? We bare bears or this show?
Hm.
Sensing some biting off here...
Caineach wrote:Baccano! is another show I have heard good things about but haven't seen. Never heard of We bare bears.
If you're talking about Polar Bear Cafe, from what I've seen on Wikipedia, looks like Polar Bear Cafe was first but We bare bears does sound thematically different though. Still, I haven't heard of We bare bears before so at least I got a new series to watch.
P.S. Kamen no Maid Guy should be considered NSFW, what with all the nudity- of both male and female. ;)

I guess I should spoiler tag this stuff since some people may not have seen the latest RWBY ep yet.
If you rewatch it (I had to), you can hear the cheering of the audience cut out as Merc makes his threat.
The maiden angle was a surprise to me too, but how well it fits into S1's opening song (This Will Be the Day):
Your world needs a great defender.
Your world's in the way of harm.
You want a romantic life; a fairytale that's full of charm.
And you've got literally fairytale defenders now.

You'll love Baccano! then: I think it does everything Durarara!! does, but better. In particular, it gets the whole "interchanging characters" thing up to eleven.
On the other hand, don't hold up high expectations for Durarara!! season 2. :/
Personally, this season I've been really surprised by how good One-Punch man is (just watched episode 10 right now): I had gone in with low expectations both on the animation and plot/characters, but the latter have proven decent and the former is top notch. I wasn't planning to follow anything but Owarimonogatari (that has been awesome as expected), but OPM got me hooked.

@Caineach: I liked DRRR too, and I still liked season 2. Baccano is great as well.
On one hand, Team Villains definitely had that trick ready. On the other hand, could they really predict that perfectly how much damage Yang could take?
Merc's final attack was a nova that left her one point of aura from losing. I could see him slowly wearing her down then throwing the match, but this would imply they did the math on exactly how big a storm he could kick up. I think they had a contingency for either situation.

The episode was cool but had bad pacing. Too much exposition in the first half, second half was all action until the twist. The action was awesome though. ** spoiler omitted **
I disagree.
I was glad that the show finally addressed one of its major weaknesses: that they've been keeping the central point of conflict between the heroes and the villains unknown to the viewers for too long.
Mysteries can be good, but there's only so long that you can keep the audience in the dark about what it is that the characters are all talking about. It can create some tension initially, but as time goes on it becomes grating to be subjected to drama over something that we're not allowed to share in. That inhibits our ability to invest in the characters', since without knowing what the stakes are, we don't know what they're fighting for, which makes it more difficult to know their motivations.
RWBY kept us in the dark for two years, and it was long past time to pull back the curtain. No more "the queen has started to move," or "I've seen what she's been making, and those things ARE fear," statements that made us roll our eyes at how loaded they were without telling us anything. Hinting at great meaning and importance, without informing us what that actually is, rapidly becomes trite.
As such, that exposition was not only entirely necessary, but was almost cathartic for the show. Now I can actually start to invest in the characters more, because their fights will actually have some greater meaning to them, rather than us having to take it on faith that there's really still some drama despite how often the heroes wallop the bad guys.

If you have not seen these wonderful short films I strongly recommend them.
Apparently, not only are they on Netflix but it seems both have been dubbed into english. This would make them a good candidate for "Anime to introduce to Beginners", maybe.

I'll just leave this here for the One-Punch Man fans.
And for you Berserk fans, I've you covered too!
P.S. D.Gray-Man fans shouldn't be left out either.

Oh don't get me wrong, we needed the information and it is good to have. Its just the way they split the episode didn't seem to work for me. It felt very jarring. Especially after a complete filler episode fight scene in the previous one. For instance, they could have told us the fairy tale in an earlier episode so they didn't have to tell us everything here.

Took me a while, but since I had five days off from work, I finally caught up on RWBY (last episode I had seen up to today had been the second one of this season). Qro is just awesome (it helps that he's voiced by Vic Mignogna). Winter started out as a complete witch, but her later talk with Weiss humanized her somewhat. And I still think Ironwood is a jerk. A well-intentioned one, but a jerk nonetheless.
But, I've got to say, that was a right dirty trick pulled on Yang by Cinder in episode 6 even though such an act is an uncharacteristic one. Yang has never displayed that level of cruelty in any of the fights leading up to the one versus Mercury, and so should be highly suspect. It'll be interesting to see how the matter is resolved in episode 7.

I fully expect Oz and the gang to accept her testimony (Ironwood dickery or no) but be forced to pull her from the tournament thanks to the masquerade preventing them from explaining it to the public.
I hope she says something like "remember that umbrella wielding illusionist working for Torchwick. Its not like its unheard of" in typical Yang sarcastic voice.

Yang often loses her temper in fights. If she had displayed that level of cruelty before, she would've been arrested before. Has to be a tipping point somewhere, why not against Merc?
I do expect Ozpin to be an ally, or at least skeptical of what the cameras showed, but it's a pretty bad defense to say "yeah I was under an illusion that only I could see, obviously". Neo's illusions are visible to everyone, while this one was personal.
