Ratfolk Barbarian or Fighter?

Advice

So I am going to start a new game and I am considering playing a Ratfolk but I cant decide if I am going to play a Barbarian or a Fighter. more than likely I am going to use a Great sword and maybe specialize in Sundering.

The Urban Barbarian, combined with the Dervish Dancer feat will make you a force to be reckoned with.

I am actually going Str. based so Dervish Dance would not be the direction I would want to go. If I do go Barbarian I am thinking of going with the Breaker Archetype.

Grand Lodge

Ah. Are you set on ratfolk? Would a rat-like humanoid of another type work?

I want to play a small race. I would go with Goblin but I think some of the other players might have an issue with them and I like the Ratfolk but if you think there is another small race that would work better I am all ears. The only thing I am dead set on is playing a small race.

There is the alternate tieflings. You could trade up the darkness ability for small size. The boons to this is a lack of strength penalty, and as the look is so varied, you can look nearly identical to a ratfolk, if you so choose.

I didnt think about that. That is a really good Idea thanks. I am still up in the air on the class.

Gee, Blackloodtroll, why all the ratfolk hate?

See if you can convince somebody else in the party to play ratfolk too. They are great in numbers using their Gang Up ability.

Since they already have gang up, you can go whole hog on teamwork with other ratfolk buddies. Cavaliers and Inquisitors get free Teamwork feats and of course fighters have feats to spare for all kinds of teamwork goodness.

Look into Seize the Moment and Outflank. Take scimitars or falchions with improved critical feats and you'll be terrifying in combat together.

One other player is considering Ratfolk, he is going to play a Rogue I think.

It all depends on what you want to do. What things would you like to focus on?

I like the ratfolk race. The set up for a strength based build though will result in disappointment.

I dont mind dealing with a lower strength score. I don't need the highest strength score possible to play a strength based character so I don't mind the penalty. I already figured my ability scores and before items I have a 15 Str. I want to focus on sundering more than anything.

I actually love playing small sized Strength based warriors. I like the feel of being smaller than the average person and being stronger than them even if I am not as strong as other characters.

tell your buddy to play ratfolk. You can do a phalanx soldier. The swarm ability is super nasty, especially if your friend is going rouge. With phalanx you can give him some good buffs while you both share the same space. Well the buffs don't start until 9th level but they get good fast. You could always try bodyguard/in harms way. Really rock the swarming ability, it seems super nasty.

Be a ratfolk barbarian alchemist/rage chemist. You'd be kind of like a mousey hulk.
