Options on attack of opportunity

Rules Questions

I am a fighter with combat reflexes but no special feats or weapons in regards to trip, grapple, disarm or other such abilities.

a creature is trying to move past me.

may i use my attack of opportunity to Trip that creature?

If yes, and the creature then tries to stand up would I get another attack of opportunity?

if no thank you for the explanation i will follow up after the answer.

Not sure on the using an AoO to trip a creature, but yes, Standing up does provoke an attack, pending certain class abilties.

As an AoO you can attempt to trip the enemy moving past you. BUT without the Improved Trip feat, the enemy will get an AoO against you as per normal tripping.

If you trip him, and he tries to stand up (without taking measures such as acrobatics not to provoke) you will get another AoO.

great.

now... when making the attack of opportunity on the creature as they attempt to stand. do they have the -4 penalty to AC for being prone or any penalties like flat footed or is it just a normal attack against normal AC?

Not flat footed, and since they aren't actually prone during the attack, I am unsure if they take the penalties for that. The AoO happens between being prone and being standing, as a GM, I usually forget about that, but since its for npcs and players, they don't care too much.

They still have the -4 penalty to AC, as they are still considered prone. Note, though, that this also means you cannot use a Trip for an AoO on an enemy standing up from prone.

As stated above, Trip is fine to use as an AoO for normal movement.

thanks all.

in this particular case no special weapon or feat was being used.

the enemy got its counter AoO and I never missed by enough to cause a drop or counter trip.
