While raging, when you use the Vital Strike feat, you can choose not to roll your damage dice and instead deal damage equal to the maximum roll possible on those damage dice. If you do, your rage immediately ends, and you are fatigued (even if you would not normally be).

What damage dice does Furious Finish actually maximize?

Is it just the weapon's damage dice? Does that include the extra weapon damage dice from Vital Strike, Improved, etc? If the weapon is flaming does that get maximized? What about a Barb/Rogue; is their Sneak Attack maximized?

Weapon dice. Extra dice from anything else don't get maximized if I'm not mistaken. That's how it works for multipliers, anyway.

The dice from Vital Strike are maximised, as that is the whole point of the feat. At no point it talks about weapon damage dice.

*rereads Vital Strike, Furious Finish*

Looks like it doesn't say. It would either be both weapon and VS dice or just VS dice. Apart from that, I have no idea just from reading it.

Scarab Sages

I interpret this as being the normal weapon damage dice and the extra dice of damage from Vital Strike, since VS is specifically part of the requirements. Other damage added (sneak attack, precise strike, and flaming weapon for instance) would not be maximized.

I would say weapon and vital strike dices. But is hard to say.

Thanks for the input! I was really struck back by the feat at first while browsing feats for my Barb/Rogue in PFS.

It makes sense to just maximize weapon damage (and Vital Strike damage as it is a multiplier to weapon damage dice).

The feat needs an errata or an FAQ entry explaining this, however, otherwise others might be asking this same question themselves.

Vital Strike states

"When you use the attack action, you can make one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals additional damage. Roll the weapon's damage dice for the attack twice and add the results together before adding bonuses from Strength, weapon abilities (such as flaming), precision based damage, and other damage bonuses. These extra weapon damage dice are not multiplied on a critical hit, but are added to the total."

Since the extra dice from VS are rolled as the weapon's own damage dice, it only makes sense that all the dice associated with the weapon's own damage are maximised. Other dice damage, eg, sneak attack or flaming, are not maximized.

i am not maximized critical dices??

I'd be surprised if it was all dice. I think it is the base weapon dice plus the vital strike. My only question is if it applies to improved and greater vital strike and devastating stike etc.

This is marked as answered in the FAQ, but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know where it is?

I don't see why you shouldn't maximize the extra dices you roll on a critical hit. Why? Because the dice you roll 'multiple times' is the 'weapon damage dice'. All the other dice or bonuses to damage come from other things than just the weapon.

Good luck ever having an opportunity to make that happen. You will need exactly that to pull it off.

Sorry to bump this, but I have a character idea that depends on the answer, and I'd really appreciate any help.

Many of these threads have been marked similarly before they revised the FAQ system.

We were pseudo-promised errata, but it never arrived when UC was reprinted. Sorry, there is no official answer to any of the Furious Finish questions.

Ah, I see. Well, thanks for letting me know.
