I'm so sorry, Cori. My mom just lost a dog three days ago (she was, like, 17 or so, and I'd say it "finally caught up with her" but she was an old dog years ago). We got her when I still lived with Mom, and we're going to visit in a week, so it's going to be rough for all the same reasons.

Sometimes it helps to know that someone else's heart is grieving like yours. Best wishes to you, Cori.

Damn.

Condolences on your loss, Cori.

Was going to type out more but... not ready to at this point.

We've been crying all day, and everywhere I look there are reminders of him, despite taking care this morning as soon as we got home from the vet at 4 AM to put all of his things out of sight. Instead I just see the empty place where his bed should be. Or I go to the bathroom and see the lack of a bathroom mat because I threw it away because he was laying on it when he started ** spoiler omitted **

I just. God. It hurts.

Jesus. I wish I could come over and collect those things for you. I still run into toys my cat(hiding stuff champion, she was) used to play with almost 15 years ago and it never fails to get me crying.

Oh no. I'm sorry, Vixie.

The loss of a friend is always hard Cori, I'm sorry for your loss of one.

I'm so sorry Cori and Vixie. I have always taken that kind of loss very hard, and wish I had some kind of great wisdom, but it is still painful.
I guess the one thing is to take care of yourself, and those around who you love.

Today was a Zoom meeting with some family for a Secret Santa swap. (My family is complex, but this group isn't blood, but I've always known them as my family because they were my mother's foster family for 9 years.) I hadn't seen some of them in 30-40 years! I wasn't sure what to expect. Some knew about me already and have been very supportive, but I wasn't sure about the others.

Everyone was awesome! I wasn't asked any questions other than what's it like in Seattle. I was ready for all kinds of questions, some very personal. I was deadnamed once, and before I even realized it, my aunt had corrected herself and moved on. I may have been the only one who even noticed.

I was getting worked up and worried for the several weeks prior. I really should remind myself that this group of people was raised to love people for who they are. They have never let me down before. I'll keep reminding myself whenever I get worried.

Today was a good day!

Other games that have surprisingly good representation for gender diversity and disabilities: Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. They don't even do the "masculine/feminine" body type thing, it's just "body type A" and "body type B." Voices aren't tied to either one, and neither are pronouns.

Prosthetics are just part of the character creation process, instead of being something you have to go digging for or unlock.

I think the only complaints I've seen about Horizon is the lack of larger body types and beards. And somebody pointing out that the full-body outfits replace prosthetic limbs with biological ones.

You also get to pick from a long list of names (again no separation by gender) to be used when your character is referenced by name (rather than just as "the superstar driver")

Now, if they'd just fix the bugs...

Liberty's Edge

Yeah I was surprised at how many names there were. Mine's not on the list, of course, but I'm used to that. "Abroham Lincoln" is also an option.

Did not know about the full body outfits replacing prosthetics, though. That's disappointing.

It's all good. Just been an off-kilter day for me and that *gestures vaguely at a certain locked thread* was. enough.

Doing emotional labor for potential fencesitters may be helpful sometimes, but it's always incredibly draining, and I don't like it.

And I believe our fungal friend has been banned.

Thank goodness. I wish we could know for sure (like a 'banned' affix on their name).

They are definitely at least suspended. I was PMing them before they got banned.

Partner tested positive, I’m getting a test tomorrow. Would appreciate some positive vibes from folks here.

Aw, geez! Well, in positive vibes, this strain is purportedly really mild for the vaccinated (which hopefully you both are!), so I've heard it passes in a day or so. I hope your partner gets better soon and you manage to avoid it altogether.

I am certainly sending you positive vibes as I recently tested positive as well. Am in quarantine. Noone else in house is positive. Here's hoping your partners journey is just as smooth and symptom free as mine is thus far.

Hopefully those tests are false positives! With that said, rest up, do what you think is best to support your immune system, and prioritize your health as much as you can.

Beaming out positivity to keftiu and Freehold, and everyone else!

My friend who I mentioned far upthread just tested positive. Her wife is being tested today. Scary times.

Seems to just be mild sniffles for me so far - and my partner isn’t feeling symptoms at all today! I’m getting tested in about an hour.

Thanks for all the well-wishes!

of course. Be careful. Keep the vicks vaporub nearby. I had to run down my chest the other night, and I haven't had to use vicks since I was a much younger man.

Be safe and careful out there, and don't let the transphobic itch.

:>

EDIT: Why 'itch' instead of Bite:

If they bite (other than in a figurative sense, which they do... or blow) then they could do lasting damage to a person. An itch is that thing one thinks they need to scratch, may need to scratch, is annoying as all heck, and will have to be scratched repeatedly until the irritation goes away.

I felt a bit weird saying it in the thread it happened in, but thank you for the kind words, KC.

In personal news it seems the wage freeze at my work is finally over and I got a dollar raise, so that's nice. After almost 3 years...

Sending lots of love and positive energy to everyone here, and especially those touched by the pandemic. Hope you (and we) get through this as best as possible.

Great job on all those threads. I know it was exhausting. Thanks to all who fought the toxic posters.

I saw that Gen Con will have a space on badges for pronouns for people who want them! I think that's awesome!

Today I went to my FLGS to pick up the newst expansion for Marvel Legendary and some sleeves for another game. I got something to eat and suddenly the power went out. Then it came back on a few seconds later while we were looking out the window. Then a transformer literally exploded across the street! It was crazy! I have seen it happen in videos, but never in person! There was a huge ball of green fire and then sparks started flying like the bridge on Star Trek! 5 hours later, they still didn't have the power back on. I didn't get the expansion. It hadn't shown up yet. I'll get it on Saturday.

That was my adventure in gaming for the day. How was yours?

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

Neat about the badges, Cindy!

Worked all day today, dodging the Infected and trying to be an 'essential' 'superhero' at ye olde retaile gige.

Got home after work to find out that the GM for tonight's SFS game I was going to play online called off with a scratchy throat (and I hope it's not like my scratchy throat that went BAM into something NASTY).

If still feel like twice-recycled garbage tomorrow, getting tested at clinic somewhere, and antibiotics if they're available (if what I've got is not the 'vid).

Hope your day went better today!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Wei Ji, I hope you and the GM feel better soon.

I'm looking for a 2E or Starfinder game to join. I'm probably going to join a Society game, but I don't really know what I need to do to be ready.

Tonight, the Pathfinder 1e game was pretty good. We lit part of an army on fire after the ranger one shot killed their leader in the surprise round. She did well over 100 points of damage with a crit and Branch Pounce from 200 feet up. It was messy to say the least.

Feeling marginally better, but starting to get worried because this thread has gotten kind of quiet...
