Pegasus as Mount

Advice

What class and at what lvl could a character get a pegasus as an animal companion or divine bond etc.?

If at all...

A Pegasus is CR3 and is an intelligent magical beast, not an animal, and is therefore not able to be an animal companion except by Rule 0. The Bestiary implies that they can be purchased, but keeping such an intelligent creature is essentially slavery. Better to try to use diplomacy for willing service.

I can't speak to Divine Bond.

If you can use web content, the blog has a ranger archetype (Sable Company Marine) that gets a Hippogriff. Will that do ?

Close enough..I just watched Wrath of the Titans so it got me wondering.

I'd go with Leadership, paladin is probably the best bet for convincing a pegasus to work with you.

Ask your dm if you can take leadership or you can ask if you can apply the fleshwarped template and make a flying horse. Probably the easiest method is to play an empyreal knight paladin and call your flying horse a pegasus. Or play a summoner and make your eidolon a pegasus.

None of the above are true pegasus though save the leadership method. Is your goal to have a true pegasus or to have a flying horse?

Just a flying mount period. I'm really not a fan of riding the Roc but I guess it's the best option.

Level eight, with GM permission and the Leadership feat.

Or, if you go Empyreal Knight Archetype for the Paladin and you can add wings to any creature you can use as a mount. This would include Horse, thus making it a Pegasus, or even something more obscure as a Camel. This is, of course, if you don't mind playing a Paladin.

Yeah, sadly there are very few other options. The Forgotten Realm 3.5 setting had a PrC that allowed a pegasus mount but so far as Pathfinder is concerned, there isn't really a way (aside from the aforementioned Leadership feat or DM intervention). I was hoping the Beast Rider cavalier variant would allow it but no such luck. I've wanted to play a Pegasus Knight (like the ones from Fire Emblem) for quite some time. I hope you have some luck.

Yeah, classes are designed so you can cast Fly from at least level 5, but you have to jump through hoops to get a flying mount.

Empyreal Knight loses Divine Grace for speaking Celestial. That is pure garbage and a non starter...Although remarkably the rest of the archetype is not that bad at all

The loss of Divine Grace is easily made up with a Cloak of Resistance. The Empyreal Knight is the only Full Bab character class with potent summoning options that get even better as they go up in level. It's a very powerful option and the loss of Divine Grace is a suitable price to pay for entrance to this class.

It's a class to either go in all the way as a single classer, or not to bother with at all.

Archetype ability swaps are not meant to be one-for-one, they should balance across the whole class.

So it's a bit silly to complain about such a swap, you should consider the class as a whole.

A Pegasus is Chaotic Good. A priest of Milani or a lovable rouge is far more likely to get a Pegasus companion than some stodgy paladin.

Yeah which is why I changed my stance a bit at the end

^Implying Paladins can't get along with chaotic people just fine.

I see a Paladin with a Chaotic Mount as a recipe for hilarious antics.

Merchant: Sir sir!
Paladin: Yes my good man?
Merchant: your..uh horse stole some of my apples
Paladin: Pegasus?
Paladin: Oh you!

Just needs a little bending of the rules.

Cohort Level: You can attract a cohort of up to this level. Regardless of your Leadership score, you can only recruit a cohort who is two or more levels lower than yourself. The cohort should be equipped with gear appropriate for its level (see Creating NPCs). A cohort can be of any race or class. The cohort's alignment may not be opposed to your alignment on either the law/chaos or good/evil axis, and you take a –1 penalty to your Leadership score if you recruit a cohort of an alignment different from your own.

I imagine some hand waving on the GM's part can happen for a neutral good or even lawful good Pegasus or you can come to an understanding and hire one to serve as companion.

However I should point out that a Pegasus is not a mere "mount", it is a person with wings and hooves. Treating it like a horse is going to cause alignment troubles and cause it to leave even if it agrees that you riding it is the most logical method of teamwork. If you get a Pegasus, you can't expect it to live in your stables and wear spurs. Its your partner, and should be your friend.

Divine Grace is sort of a defining ability for the Paladin.

Theres not much that can make me say, yeah ok let me lose that for this other stuff.

A 16 base charisma, leveled up to 20 or so, a +6 Charisma Item gives you +8 to all saves.

THEN add in a cloak, thats +13 to all saves.

Anyway, yeah the leadership feat is pretty much all you can do.

That's Fly for 5 mins per casting one of your third level spell slots, as opposed to having a flying mount 24/7. Lets keep clear the apples/oranges nature of your comparison.
