1. Nightwish (with Tarja Turunen)
2. Within Temptation
3. Letzte Instanz
4. Schandmaul
5. Eisbrecher
Honorable Mention: Kamelot (with Roy Khan) and Corvus Corax
Obviously I left out Metallica (they're playing in their own league anyway), but while I really think that they're the greatest band of all time, for some reason I've stopped listening to them as much as I used to.
Anyway, ask me again tomorrow and the list given above might have changed at all positions.

I'm amazed that there is someone else on Earth besides myself that actually knows who Heather Nova actually is. I mentioned her name in Bermuda and got blank stares.

Appreciate the warm welcome! No worries on the cookies, rain check.
That would be cool! First time saw Maiden was 98 in England (Virtual XI Tour). Folks naysay the Blaza Bayley era, I kinda liked Virtual XI. Last time was last year in Australia (on there own and headlining Soundfest). I am in the military and have been fortunate enough to see them on 4 continents over the years. 3 to go!
Haven't had a chance to see any of the other bands yet. I'm currently out in the Pacific and am waiting for them to come my way!

What I listen to is far too dependent on mood, company, situation and other factors for me to try to chose five "favorites". If you ask for five favorites in a particular genre I may be able to accommodate, but my tastes are far too varied to pick one type/band/whatever over another.

Honorable Mention goes to Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, just because any song is better with a thrash metal cover. ("Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)," I'm talking about you.)

Albert King - for spearheading the movement from acoustic/Memphis to electric/Chicago blues.
Max Roach - for pioneering the use of persussion as an instrument instead of a metronome.
The Police - for resurrecting rock music and ushering it into the 80s.
Iron Maiden - for composing complex classical pieces and then playing them on electric guitars.
Crosby, Stills, and Nash - for somehow managing, for a while, to meld three of the greatest talents of their time into a seamless whole.

Well, my top five (or ten or eight hundred) haven't changed much since last I posted in this thread but here are five of the neatest things I've seen/heard on WPZO (otherwise known as the "What are you listening to as you browse the message boards?" thread) lately:
New Birth, Inc.--"I Can Understand It"
Judee Sill--"Jesus Was a Crossmaker"
Igor Stravinsky--The Rites of Spring
and, because I can't help but cheat
