Wow. I'm drawing a blank.

All I can think of is Deathtrap (one of the compoundmates was watching it the other day) and, although enjoyable, that can't be the best movie he was in. It can't! But it's my answer.

[facepalm]

I change my answer.

This is one of my all-time favorite movie scenes.

e.e. cummings gets you laid.

Gosford Park was the shiznit, son! You'd better watch out, upper class twits!

Cradle Will Rock

Who has an answer that hasn't been mentioned yet?

Kajehase wrote:

Heh. I'd've answered This Is Spinal Tap, but the concert was only a small part of it, and it wasn't a real concert anyway. Luckily, the Goblin Chairman beat me to it.

Scarab Sages

In the Bleak Midwinter. A great, sadly almost unknown movie.

Favorite movie directed by Kenneth Brannagh that isn't a Shakespeare adaption?

Sleuth

Favourite movie based on a play or novel written by a Nobel literature prize winner?

But worth a link, methinks.

Although I won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1956, my favorite film based on the work of another Nobel Laureate is, of course,

Thank you, Comrade Chairgoblin!

Doctor Zhivago

{Thank you, Hitdice and wikipedia!)

But I insist that everybody indulge in the fun of looking up the list and seeing if there's any other films you'd like to propose. No question for now.

No, thank you! I hadn't seen that in years. I think I lost about a pint of tears I was laughing so hard.

Hee hee!

I'm a fan of Moulin Rouge!

Unless you count the "floor show" during the Rocky Horror Picture Show as the production of a concert, in which case it wins for sheer epic crazy awesomeness. :)

Hmmm. Nobody wants to indulge in the pleasures of looking stuff up, huh?

Fine. Favorite Alec Guinness role that isn't set in outer space?

Scarab Sages

It is a tie between two roles and three movies:
1: Professor Marcus from Ladykillers
2: Colonel Nicholson from The Bridge on the River Kwai
3: Almost the whole 'd'Ascoyne' Family in 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' (can't count as one roll, but the movie is awesome enough deserve mentioning)

Favorite William Holden Movie?

Network

Favourite Sidney Lumet-directed movie?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

The Wiz, though I must honestly admit that I haven't seen most of the movies in Lumet's oeuvre that are supposed to be really great. :)

Favorite movie featuring two (or more) actors that are father and son(s)?

Grand Lodge

McLintock!

John and Patrick Wayne

Father and Son actors you consider combined are the best to date?

Kirk and Michael Douglas

Most heartwarming fictional father and son in a movie?

Happy Father's Day?

Grand Lodge

I was waiting to see if someone else would answer.

Shenandoah

Jimmy Stewart out looking for his missing youngest son is awesome stuff.

To change the tones somewhat:

Thread Jack: For the rest of the week, you can only give a quote and the next person has to give the movie it came from as well as the character and actor who said it. Also, put 1-5 stars at the end, saying how hard the quote may be to identify.

Example: "Iv'e got a bad feeling about this." *

Answer: Star Wars, Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamil.

Had to cheat to find this one, but since no one had answered yet, thought it was okay.

All of Me, Roger Cobb, Steve Martin

Oh. I heard "Back in bowl!" and kept thinking of Eddie Murphy in The Golden Child.

Seeing how it's been 48 hours, I cheated.

Whaddaya know, it's from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

The Movie Thread, I am disappointed in you. (You, too, Doodlebug!)

"Hey, look, Mister, we serve hard drinks in here for men who want to get drunk fast and we don't need any characters around to give the joint atmosphere, is that clear?"

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

That sounds like Nick the bartender (played by Sheldon Leonard - I had to look THAT up) in It's a Wonderful Life, during the "Pottersville" section of the movie.

How about:

"'Paramount Pictures presents The Freak. This movie won't just scare you, it will f&@@ you up for life!' I want to know how the f$&* the word f+@# gets in the New York f#~!ing Times!"

You are correct, sir! I have no idea who's complaining about cursing in the Times.

This was a nice idea, but, unfortunately, not terribly succesful.

I tried but many of them sadly I didnt get. Out of respect for the game I would not google them either. Also the side convos makes it hard to place the question and qoute. Maybe we need a new rule if you are not asking a question or giving an answer you have to say so in your post?

Sadly, I agree. I guess there are too many quotes out there, and not enough people who can remember them.

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

I guess I cheated on the Big Lebowski one, because I've never seen that movie and know almost nothing about it, other than that it involves bowling and has Jeff Bridges in it as "The Dude."

Google away, says I!

I rememered hearing this but couldn't remember where; finally had to look it up.

A Bug's Life, Hopper, Kevin Spacey

We now return you to your regular scheduled 'The Movie Game'.

Name your top 2 actors and actresses who have played historic characters of real life people. (The movie must be set from 1960 to present.)

Sean Penn - Harvey Milk
Michael Sheen - Tony Blair, Brian Clough

Helen Mirren - Elizabeth II
Meryl Streep - Margaret Thatcher

Favourite movie set during the 1970s but produced after 1990?

Stoned Age -- I think I liked it better than Detroit Rock City (DRC had a more coherent plot overall, which might be why SA edged it out).

Favorite movie scene featuring a BeeGees song?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The scene in Airplane! parodying the disco scene in Saturday Night Fever

Favorite joke/gag from the movie Airplane!?

Grand Lodge

"And don't call me Shirley" is even with "I picked a bad day to give up sniffing glue."

Favorite Leslie Nielsen movie that was not a comedy.

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

I think Forbidden Planet and The Poseidon Adventure are the only movies I've seen him in that weren't comedies, so I'll call it a tie between the two of them by default. That man was on a LOT of TV shows, though, and I mean a metric crapton of basically every significant series of the 60s and 70s from Rawhide to S.W.A.T. to the Love Boat. The man was working hard, no doubt about it.

Spoiler:
BTW, I think my favorite gag in the movie is Barbara Billingsley saying, "Oh, excuse me, miss, miss. I speak jive."

Favorite Comedy Alien Invasion that is not Mars Attacks?

Does Cowboys and Aliens count? Because it was pretty comedic. And pretty awesome.

Quantum of Solace -- worst James Bond movie since Moonraker?

Scarab Sages Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4, Legendary Games

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Nope. That dishonor belongs to the Pierce Brosnan one with Denise Richards as scientist Christmas Jones. Not even sure of the title, but I think it was The World Is Not Enough.

Favorite Bond movie for each Bond actor?

Sean Conory - Goldfinger

George Lazenby - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Roger Moore - The Man with the Golden Gun

Timothy Dalton - The Living Daylights

Pierce Brosnan- Tomorrow Never Dies

Daniel Craig - Casino Royale

Favorite movie where a Bond actor played a sensitive new age guy? (MOVIE I said, Remington Steele doesn't count!)
