Yep, ninja is a generic name for these assassins. Character interaction will not use the word "ninja" for sure. I think of a career name.

Going to have to counter that -2 Cha of Poison Dusk, to get a better Ki pool and cha based ninja tricks.

Bummer, both Poison Dusk and Ninja have Poison Use feat.

Thinking on how to get the lizard from Xen'drik to Mournland. Maybe the ones from Xen'drik could team up together in Xen'drik, to do something in Mournlands for some person in Xen'drik. While travelling in Mournlands, they met up with the rest of the group. Well being a "assassin", the job would most likely involve someone dying. Clean up loose ends, and the like.

Here is Gathlar Heverat, Nagaji Oracle of Time. I just need to think of the background. I am thinking that his oracular curse (decaying flesh) was brought about by a failed sacrifice attempt to the eddies of time. Parts of his flesh were sucked into the temporal vacuum before he could escape. So any assistance with the escape part would be well appreciated (as a background idea).

I need to review the rules for firearms, but I'm thinking a half-orc gunslinger working for House Cannith.

Alright, this is Nikeltas Alset (Alset is Tesla reversed).

Basically, Alset will be a junkyard engineer. Smartish but not extensively educated beyond what he could learn on his own. He is, however, a naturally gifted engineer, putting scrap and crap together to make pretty spectacular inventions. His crowning achievement is his powered armor made of scrap metal.

I've been reading a bunch of Wild Cards books lately and in one of them they talk about Aces that seem to be inventing amazing or impossible things are just using latent psychic (in this case magical) power through what is essentially a prop, something that couldn't work without him. I think that's a good angle for Nik.

I'll get something written up tonight or at the very latest tomorrow morning.

Edit: Got some really basic stuff in the background. Mostly restating what's here with a couple sentences about personality.

Dark Archive

I love Wild Cards. :)

I'm working on getting Tac's sheet done, but I can't seem to find a few pieces of information:

-The psionic displacment power didn't make the pathfinder-ization of the psionics rules. I don't know if you want to use the version from the Expanded Psionic Handbook, or if you want to replace it, or just drop it altogether. It's not like Thri-kreen would become underpowered without it, so I tend to think that just dropping it might be the best solution.

-I can't seem to find the starting gold of the Ardwright anywhere in the write up, so I'll need to know what you want me to do for that.

-----
As far as the Xen'drik characters having ties to each other already, I think it's a wise idea, since other options tend to strain credulity. I could easily see her or her hive (depending on how complete the destruction of it was) having hired the other two to act as troubleshooters and liasons with other races while she's trying to recover the resources they'll need to rebuild: Thri-kreen have a fairly difficult time of understanding most other societies and interacting with them, which one presumes they're actually aware of.

Alternately, to not make her the center of attention, I'd be fine with the other two having come upon her after the destruction of her hive, and she's formed a clutch-bond with them now, considering them to be adopted 'family' of sorts. Perhaps she came floating down a river while gathlar was trying to commit suicide, and he pulled free of the vacuum to pull her out of the water?

should have a Spellslinger of House Cannith by tomorrow. quick question how are dragonmarks going to work?

Me again. It's been awhile (3.5 days) since I read any Eberron stuff. I want to read up to flesh out my backstory. Should I read 3.5 or 4th edition fluff. Is there a difference fluff-wise?

Will the sources be strictly Pathfinder besides the races or will you allow Eberron prestige classes, magic items, and such?

Also, are you still open for applications or all filled up?

The Eberron corebook has only half a page of information on Xen'drik, thus early life will be rather empty. I using what ever I can find online for the lizardfolk of Eberron.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, I'm making up stuff about Xen'drik too.

Description: Before you stands a figure hooded and draped in a masked robe of red with gold imbellishments, and fading to blue and purple on the wide sleeves and hem of the robe. Over this robe is a shirt of armor made from the hide of some yellow skinned lizard (or possibly a snake). The eye holes in the hood allow only a glimpse of grey reptilian skin and the golden slitted eyes that the Nagaji are known for, but if this is a Nagaji, his head and shoulders are too slender, his face not wide enough or long enough in the nose to appear as Nagaji. The golden eyes reveal pain, but whether physical or emotional is difficult to tell.

Background: Gathlar Heverat was raised from an early age to be obedient to the Naga Lords of his people. He learned the place of being and the place of time, together unified into fate, that the Nagaji have long been accustomed to following. It is a simple religion. To do as our places dictate. Gathlar took to this following with such grace, poise, and ease that he was quickly singled out by the Naga for temple purposes. Throughout his adolescence, Gathlar handled the serpents of the temples, making certain that the lesser sacrifices were prepared for their time and place to die. But upon his 20th year, Gathlar was chosen as a sacrifice to the Ethers of Time. He had served the Naga Lords so well, and for so long, that his fate had been chosen for him, as it is for all true Nagaji. He would go into the Time Void and cease to exist. His life would be remembered only for this sacrifice, which must be made every 20 years, as Fate has taught the Nagaji. Gathlar at first did not resist the flow that Fate had brought him down. If this was his time to die, he would die for the Naga Lords. He was chained to a pillar, and the sorcerers summoned the Time Void. It inched closer and closer to him, at an agonizingly slow rate, but Gathlar had long contemplated his death in service to the Naga Lords. He was prepared to not exist. He was at peace with the Fate he had been dealt. But a screech filled the air as the High Sorcerer fell, a poisoned (dart/shuriken/dagger) embedded in his neck. The Sorcerer's body fell into the Time Void, vanishing from time and all existence. The Time Void had been sated, for now. But Gathlar had not escaped unscathed. The front of his face, his fingers, and part of his massive serpentine body had been pulled into the Void too. Wisps of flesh decaying into nothingness remained attached to him, disintegrating as dust before his eyes as they too vanished from the memory of time and space. In the chaos that followed these events, the Nagaji ignored Gathlar, and eventually spurned him from their city. He had avoided his Fate, but by what hand is he now guided. The Naga Lords had chosen his destiny, but Gathlar was cursed not to follow it.

Personality Gathlar feels out of sorts with his destiny. He believes when his life was saved, he thwarted what was best for the Universe at large, as the Naga Lords had told them since birth. Every creature's fate is predetermined, and to go against that fate is to spit in the face of the Cosmos, and to anger the gods. He lives as one who should not be alive, flaunting immoral choices sometimes as he remembers he avoided his fate. He does not embrace death, however, as he feels he must be destroyed utterly. Erased from existence as the other sorcerer was. It is still surprising to him that only he can remember the Sorcerer who died in his stead, but then again, he knows many things from across the flow of time and many times.

Sorry, just catching up now.

When you say PF compatible, what do you mean, exactly? You said no feats from PF, which is odd, but it sounds like your allowing PF classes.

What of archetypes?

If your getting rid of Action Points, are you also scrapping everything that uses them? Feats, PrCs, etc??

Also,
Shifter Racials? I asked before, but it might have gotten lost.

Liberty's Edge

He said you can use any feats from 3.5 sources, not just Pathfinder.

Not wanting to tread on Yuengling / Nik's niche, I'm instead considering an Aegis from Dreamscarred Press' Psionics Expanded.

Is that a 3pp product that you'd consider Nightflier?

If you're fine with dropping that power, it's fine with me.

Ardwright should use same starting gold as Artificer.

You just need to take Dragonmark feat. It starts as Least Dragonmark and than scales with levels to provide you with benefits of Lesser and Greater Dragonmarks.

I think that there are no fluff differences, beyond dragonborn and eladrin. Anyway, I am using 3.5 fluff.

Eberron prestige classes etc. are allowed, of course. Changes will be made to make them more Pathfinder-like on case to case basis.

There is a book called Secrets of Xen'drik. Try to do a Google search for it. You may get more info online.

1) I said that you can use feats from sources other than PF. That means that feats from 3.5 are allowed, as well as 3.5 3PP products. Pending my approval, of course.

2) Archetypes are allowed.

3) Well, I suppose not everything. If you want to play certain PrC that uses them, I suppose that we could work together to replace action points with something else and keep the fluff of PrC.

4) I plan to have 3 types of shifters - Tooth, Claw and Horn. The last is vaguely minotaur-like. I'm gonna post more info about them later, but they are mostly inspired by Ogier from Wheel of Time RPG. I am still thinking about Tooth and Claw shifters. I may make Claw shifters more like catfolk. I'll decide in a day or two.

Still accepting applicants? If so, would you allow a warforged fighter?

Since I don't have Psionics Expanded, I'm afraid not, unless you can somehow send me the book via email, or something, if you have pdf.

You can always go with the "human with mind downloaded in WF body", just don't make it Summoner. Perhaps a warrior injured during Last War, whose ardwrigth friend tried to save him by implanting his mind into WF body?

Since it's 30 point buy, I have this image of warforged fighter from Cyre who was infantry when the disaster happened. He has made his living as a guard/bouncer/something along those lines since then, but is an unusual warforged because despite his martial prowess will wonder what he's supposed to do. He knows he was built for the purpose of war, but whose war? Is the highest bidder the right one to fight for? Is he supposed to be in the thick of battle swinging his sword?

Extremely rough, bare bones concept. I have Eberron book, races, secrets of Xen'drick and some other ones, of course all at home. Always loved the setting but could never find a group that liked it.

PS: The one game my group played for a couple weeks let me play a warforged barbarian. We couldn't afford a horse AND cart so we bought a cart and since they never get tired, my warforged put on the yoke and start running. Most fun character I ever had, the mule.

Nightflier:

Thanks for the reply on the aegis, though I'll let that concept lie for now.

How about a Goliath Tetori Monk?

Though I don't have the 3.5 stats for Goliath... can someone pop them through to me in a PM or spoiler here?

Do you need the crunch now, or just the background, with propose race and class.

Seems the Secrets of Xen'Drik also has very little information on the Ring of Storms where the lizardfolk was brought from Q'barra. Only piece of information about Ring of Storms, is that it is a mountanous area with very strong winds, and a destroyed elven city.

There is more information on Q'barra. So I think I have the lizard come from Q'barra instead.

Dark Archive

@Shady

That looks interesting.

@Mark

I'm gonna send you the Goliath basics via pm.

@DarkOne

Right now, I just need definitive concepts, that include race, class and background.

@All

It seems that most people are interested in Xen'drik races. I may change the location of the game to Stormreach, at least initially.

OK. So Nik now has a more fleshed out and Eberron specific background. I'd be happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you have with mechanics or fluff.

Nightflier - many thanks.

I'm out of town this weekend, but should have the concept up my Sunday eve. If that's too late I understand, otherwise am looking forward to the big bruiser :)

Alright, Tac's crunch is finally done. Her expanded background will be up within the next day or two.

Any alignment restrictions?

Seeing that all the lizardfolk of Q'barra is hell bent on getting rid of the settlers. Being an assassin (ninja) too, she would by normal means not leave Q'barra. She would have to go against the lizardfolk rulers. Such would be refusing to complete an assassination of a prominate settler. I thinking that once she discovered (more like saw the victim) the victim to be a young child, she decided not to kill the child as the child has nothing to do with the current conflict with the settler's rulers. She leaves Q'barra, taking up work as a freelance assassin, of course no jobs that involve killing children. So eventually ends up by Mournland. Once we have more information on how the party gets together, I can work on something on how she is hired.

Also, need an age for the poison dusk lizardfolk to be a ninja.

Billzabub here, reporting in with Markus Targus, half-orc gunslinger.

Markus Targus is a large and imposing figure, standing some 6'3" tall, with shoulders to match. Although quiet, he is a friendly sort, happy to talk with others and quick with a slap on the back. Having grown up on the streets of Sharn, Markus was recruited into the employ of the House of Cannith as an errand boy and muscle when an imposing presence was needed. Having earned the respect of his employers, he has gradually been given more responsibility, and is now being tested with an assignment of some importance - looking into reports of a new coal like substance being uncovered in the mournlands, something in which the house of fabricators have a great deal of interest. Armed with his longsword and the latest prized possession of the House, a pistol firearm, Markus is eager to prove himself and confident in his abilities.

Sorry for the wait, I'm currently contemplating a half-elf bard and will try to have it up later tonight for you to look at.

one more question. can we use the feat
MARK OF TWELVE MOONS
Your dragonmark has mysterious ties to one of Eberron’s
twelve moons.
Prerequisite: Any true lesser, greater, or Siberys
dragonmark.
Benefit: You gain a +1 inherent bonus to one ability
score, chosen according to the type of dragonmark
you possess.
figure I ask before making final characters details.

Dark Archive

I tend to ban the feats that raise ability scores, but I may allow it in this case.

Go ahead and take it.

@All

I will be scarce on the boards till Thursday. I'll check out the thread periodically, so you can feel free to ask anything you like.

I plan on a half-giant psychic warrior or a drow magic-user that is a direct damage dealer.

The concept is a half-giant that has left giantkind because he didn't quit fit in. He was too impetuous (think Loial from the Wheel of Time).

He is wandering the human lands in search of his destiny. He will be a capable front-liner without being full BaB.

Next concept is a drow mage hungry for arcane power with an incredible desire for magic and order to preserve the balance (LN).

I will await for your reply, when you have time to join us here again.

Any results, yet? Or are we still waiting... =)

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Do you have your 6-8 or is there room for another?

Still interested in half-giant CG psychic warrior or LN Drow direct damage dealer.

Either a Loial with a combat bent or a drow mage that avoids the dark side and wants to preserve some balance.

Is there still interest in this?

Dark Archive

Sorry for my absence, guys. I'm afraid that my health has deteriorated and I'll have to undergo a minor surgical procedure. It's nothing life-threatening, or even painful (at least that's what the doctors are telling me), but necessary preparations and tests are taking almost all of my time, and bureaucratic nonsense that I have to go through before I even reach the doctors is mind-staggering. So, I'm sorry to say that I'll not be able to run the game for a month at least (it will take me two weeks to get to the procedure, and about ten days for the recovery). I will be present on the boards and I fully intend to get back to my games after I recover.

Therefore, I can find the time to continue with the recruitment for this game and character creation process, but don't expect me to reply to your posts on daily bases. I will probably be able to reply to you once in two days.

Dark Archive

@Chainmail

I'm afraid that there are no half-giants in Eberron. You could play a Shifter of the Horn, a new race that looks something like horned Ogier from WoT books and RPG. If you are interested, I'll post the stats.

Dark Archive

@DarkOne

No alignment restriction. Starting age would be 15 years old and maximum age 40 years.

Dark Archive

@Mark Thomas

There is yet room.

Dark Archive

I wish I could join, but I will pass. No one from karrnath either...

No worries. In the mean time I will work on the crunch of the character.

Thanx for the information, will help with character background.

Hey, Nightflier, sorry to hear about your health and all, and I hope everything goes smoothly.

I'll be around, and we'll keep an eye out for you.

Good luck

Please shoot me the shifter of the horn crunch.

I may just go drow wizard/evoker. I know blasting mages are not in syle, but sometimes you play what you feel.

Race: Poison Dusk Lizardfolk
Class: Ninja (known as assassin amongst lizardfolk)

Background:
Fifteen years earlier in the Basura swamp of Q'barra, Zakmakiv was born in the Siraski tribe. As far as she can remember, she was taught of the evil humans invading their lands, and that the human settlers are to be driven off their lands. As she grew up, she was quicker and more agile than the average poison dusk. Seeing the potential in her to become an elite warrior against the invaders, the elders steered towards more agile games. From a young age she was taught to use poison and to apply poison to weapons. When she was old enough, she began her training to be an assassin, learning the exotic weapons used by assassins. Also during this period, she learnt to use ranged weapons, and how to sneak in strikes against the target. Learnt how to use her chameleon ability to maximum effect to be able to move about unnoticed. She received lessons on local knowledge and nobility, to aid her in her future assignments.

After a few years and survived the tests to become an assassin, she was given her first assignment outside the tribe. She completed her first assignment with ease, to kill a marked merchant within a human settler. Pleased with her success of her final test, the elders game her her first challenging assignment. To assassinate a high level individual, Listan Bredus, living in Adderport.

After a few weeks travelling through the jungle she arrived at Adderport. She stayed hidden on the edge for a few days observing the movement of the town guards at night, venturing ever deeper as the days went bye, listening to the locals of Adderport to learn more about the town, and most importantly where the high profile people live, particular Listan. After a few days hiding in the shadows by the taverns, she discovered to her surprise that Listan was indeed a young child of about half her age. She became angered at her elders for giving her an assignment to kill an innocent child. Immediately she left Adderport, hiding in the jungle nearby to spend time figuring out what she was going to do. She knew that eventually her elders would discover that she made no attempt to assassinate her target, and be severely punished for not carrying out her orders. So going home was no options.

Using her skills she headed north, along the Adder river...

Still to be completed, though need to know where the starting point is to get Zakmakiv there.

Personality:
She does not believe in killing the innocent children, though killing an outright evil child and personal threat to her, she would kill the child.

More to be added

Appearance:
Will be completed once character has gear.

Her equipment would include poisons.

What number of traits, and what traits are allowed if allowed?

Starting wealth?

I see poison dusks only have 2 additional languages. what happens if Int allows for more additional languages or/and linguist skill ranks are taken?
