If there's a thread on this stuff, my search-fu is too weak to find it.

Shield Pool (Ex): ... He may also use a touch attack or shield bash with his shield in conjunction with any pool strike magus arcana. ...

This "in conjunction with" confuses me. They already get the ability to use spellstrike with a shield or weapon, Pool Strike already says that it can be used with spellstrike. Is this just redundancy? Is it saying that the Pool Strike can be activated along with the shield attack instead of taking its own normal standard action? Or is it just adding the new option of delivering the strike as a touch with the shield instead of a hand?

Regarding the Pool Strike arcana, it looks to me like it doesn't work with Spell Combat. That makes me sad, am I reading that wrong?

Arcane Pool: At 1st level, a skirnir can use his arcane pool to grant an enhancement bonus to a weapon as normal, as well as to his shield, paying the arcane pool cost separately for each. ...

Does this just mean that when they use a swift action and 1 pool point to enhance something, they can do either the weapon or the shield? Or does it mean when they use a swift action to enhance something they can spend 1 point for either or 2 points to do both?

Lastly, is there a quicker way to get the Shield Master feat than ranger-6 or having a +11 BAB?

Bump.

I don't know. I assumed it just meant you could bash with the pool strike thing, but I kind of like the idea of gently bumping your shield into someone for a touch. ("Feel how smooth this is, foul beast!")

I think removing the activation of the pool strike ability is a bit much. (Outside of letting you use the bash to make the free attack as part of activating it, meaning no full round attack with pool strike 'for free')

I think that part of Shield Pool may have just been written to make sure people know they can use their shield bash with spellstrike with pool strike.

I don't see why not. Pool Strike (Su) doesn't say casting a spell dissipates the effect. So activate pool strike, hold the charge. Next round spell combat: cast something and make a full attack, using spellstrike to deliver the pool strike charge with the first hit.

I also don't see why you couldn't go further and Pool Strike, then next round Spell Combat, cast a normal touch spell, and have your first hit (including the free attack from casting the touch spell) discharge both the pool strike and the spell. Pool Strike is kind of like the Elemental Touch spell, they are both not touch spells, so casting and using a real touch spell shouldn't really affect them at all, other than doubling up on what happens when you touch something.

The action for using your arcane pool is set, the skirnir version doesn't change that, it just specifies paying the arcane pool cost separately. So I think it's still the same action, just you have the option of buffing your shield (instead of, or in addition to the weapon) at the same time, as long as you pay the pool.

I don't know.

Thanks for your response Grick.

At first I was hoping that activating pool strike could be used as the spell part of spellcombat, as a total replacement for spell recall. No evidence to back up that idea though, your explanation of how to use it more effectively as written makes much more sense.
