Why aren't daggers and dagger-like weapons considered Close Weapons? They strike me as very common Close quarters weapons.

"Close: bayonet [APG], brass knuckles [APG], cestus [UC], dan bong [UC], emei piercer [UC], fighting fan [UC], gauntlet, heavy shield, iron brush [UC], light shield, madu [UC], mere club [UC], punching dagger, sap, scizore [UC], spiked armor, spiked gauntlet, spiked shield, tekko-kagi [UC], tonfa [UC], unarmed strike, wooden stake [APG], and wushu dart [UC]."

Punching daggers actually are in the list. I have no idea why regular daggers are not, and it's super annoying (It'd be great to make a Knifemaster Rogue/Brawler Fighter combo). I didn't notice a single weapon on that list that is slashing at first, and figured they didn't want to offer a slashing damage option in the group. ...But checking again now, I see Fighting Fan is S or P, so...nevermind that.
It's possible they just plain forgot to add it in.

Yeah, I know. Maybe they did not want the list to be too long. *shrug*

The Exchange

Most likely they decided to keep it out of the list due to it not being a weapon that is used with the hand itself. All of the other items are weapons that rely almost entirely upon the wrist or are actually meant to augment the hand, like the punching dagger. Still agree with you that I'd love for it to be on the list too XD

Maybe because daggers can be thrown, IMHO.

+1. Their range increment is also 20 ft., quite good.

No, that is the star knife. Daggers are 10 feet. Still, they are extremely versatile, have a lot of abilities that support their use, and they are easy to conceal.

Maybe they didn't want any one weapon showing up in too many groups? Dagger is already in the Thrown and the Light Blades category.

Certainly a fine point. Just look at martial versatility and martial mastery. Both of those talk about taking feats for a specific weapon, and applying them to "all weapons in the same weapon group". If a weapon is in multiple weapon groups....well, that could end up rather troublesome, no?

Wonder if they were specifically concerned about how much stacking may occur with knife master rogue, the river rat trait from kingmaker and brawler-- that really adds up!

The real question is why aren't hook hands in the Close Weapon group? How am I supposed to make proper Aquaman without a hook hand and fist combo. From close weapon group?!
