How do I make a very gnolly gnoll?

Advice

I am making a gnoll barbarian who worships Lamashtu for an upcoming campaign. I have Dark Markets and the Rival Guide and have done some mucking about online but I would greatly appreciate being pointed to any sources that will help me out. I would really like to play up his heritage.

I have a particular interest in gnoll terms and phrases I have picked up a couple but I am not sure how often I will be able to make use of them.

So if anyone knows how I can make this character a shining example of gnolldom please let me know.

Have you seen the "Gnoll" entry in Classic Monsters Revisited?

No I had considered it though. Would you rate the gnoll section as good?

Well, here are some quotes from the page I just linked to...

Good but where's the Gnoll love? ... Generally excellent but I'm knocking one star for the gnoll article. Gnolls, they're like Hyenas. Yeah, got it. As my favorite classic monster I had hoped for more.

And over in the product discussion, there's a telling comment:

You shouldn't really have any regard for my own opinion of the book, because my love for Paizo products in general isn't a tenth that of the average poster on these boards. It's kind of weird that I should refer you to a book only to knock it, but... well, sorry. The only professional product I ever saw that gave me a particular fascination with gnolls was the old BECMI module "B10 - Night's Dark Terror".

But then, I also thought that module had the best treatment of GOBLINS, and we all know how much love Paizo's goblins get, so like I said, don't take MY opinion seriously.

(And of course, Legacy of Fire used gnolls a lot, but I don't know if you want to get an AP just to see how the gnolls are used in it.)

Legacy of Fire contains good villainous gnolls, but has nothing extraordinarily revealing about gnoll culture.

"Heritage" and "shining example of gnolldom" are almost oxymorons, being as savage and chaotic as gnolls are.

Buy a triple flail, even if it doesn't change game mechanics from a heavy flail. (Not sure how Lamashtu would feel about this though.)
Eat your enemies. (Barb bite?)
Hunt your enemies.
Work in a pack. (Teamwork feats?)
Howl. (Intimidate? Rage abilities to help?)
Pick on the weak and grovel to the strong.
Scratch, sweat, and snort. And cackle.

Invent words as you see fit, make your own lexicon.

And if you really want a gnolly gnoll, put him on a grassy hillside with a sniper scope watching an entourage...
Oh, wait..., scratch that.

Yes I purposefully choose heritage and shinning in an attempt to be silly. I might grab Legacy of Fire then since a few names is always good thank you. I will make sure he has a bow at the very least as well.

"Classic Monsters Revisited" has 30 gnoll names (and a general explanation of how they're named).

The adventure in "Howl of the Carrion King" (the one module in "Legacy of Fire" that I have) has a human NPC who's very "gnollish" in manner, a gnoll tribe, 3 named gnolls (but no specialized stats for them), and 1 flind fighter NPC with stats.

"Howl" also has a chapter called "Gnolls of the Brazen Peaks", which describes various tribes of gnolls. Glancing through it I counted 11 named gnoll NPCs, with no stats beyond class and level. (There might be more. I don't have time to confirm the precise number.)

The prose story in "Howl" has at least one named gnoll character.

Ooh! Here's something free! At this site, I see a PFRPG conversion for "Legacy of Fire". At a glance, I can see the the conversion for "Howl" has 2 named flind NPCs with stats, "House of the Beast" has two statted gnoll NPCs (although without particularly "gnollish" names), and "The Jackal's Price" has one named, statted gnoll. If you have time for a more thorough read, you may find more stuff.

Dark Archive

I'm gonna go a slightly different route

Gnoll Inquisitor, possibly with the Rage (sub?)Domain

you get a bonus to intimidate from inquisitor, and spells to make you better in combat. the solo tactics and bonus teamwork feats are nice too.

alternatively, Barbarian (invulnerable rager, beast totem powers)

Shadow Lodge

I once had designed a gnoll ranger/barbarian hunter of humans. To get the feel right, I listened to a lot of Violent Femmes. "Add It Up" always struck me as particularly gnollish, in its barely-directed pent-up fury.

Aaron thanks that's very helpful. Name thanks for the suggestion but I am pretty set on barbarian it will be my first full BAB character using pathfinder and yes I will definitely pick up the beast totem line. InVino I will listen to "Add It Up" right away.
