Bandit Archetype and its ability replacements

Rules Questions

Alright, so I know UC has had quite a few "Uhh what?" problems, and I think my girlfriend found another one.

The two abilities of Bandit straight from the PRD.

Ambush (Ex): At 4th level, a bandit becomes fully practiced in the art of ambushing. When she acts in the surprise round, she can take a move action, standard action, and swift action during the surprise round, not just a move or standard action. This ability replaces uncanny dodge.

Fearsome Strike (Ex): At 8th level, a bandit can terrify an opponent with a single hit. A number of times per day equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1), when a bandit confirms a critical hit and deals sneak attack damage to an opponent, she can choose to make the opponent frightened for a number of rounds equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). She cannot use this ability in conjunction with a critical feat. This ability replaces uncanny dodge.

Notice that they both replace the same ability... Is this correct, or should Fearsome Strike replace Improved Uncanny Dodge? Earning the Improved Uncanny Dodge ability without even knowing the basic Uncanny Dodge just does not make sense to me.

Nothing? Really? I've searched around and I haven't found anything on this, and it's been a few days since I asked...

I haven't poked around in the FAQ or Errata but I would say you are correct and it replaces Improved Uncanny Dodge.

I thought that myself at first, but logic would dictate that it is a typo... if not yay!!! freekin awesome!!

Is that problem officially fixed ?
I need an answer for the french prd.

Sovereign Court

In the SRD it still lists the uncanny dodge as the loss, I think it intends for improved uncanny dodge as its listing

However it could be that it works like the sneak attack extra die if you wouldn't end up with uncanny dodge it would grant you uncanny dodge (just like uncanny dodge's ability to grant improved uncanny dodge if you already have a class that grants uncanny dodge) and its replacing the loss of uncanny dodge and any bonus to upgrade via levels to the purpose of determining Rogue level needed to sneak attack.

Long shot and extremely unlikely the 2nd way but still interesting philosophy.

In the case of progressing ablities, the rules for archetypes state that you gain the 1st one instead of the 2nd when an archetype exchanges the first... so yeah... at 8th you get uncanny dodge not improved.

There are a couple archtypes that trade one ability out for a couple others at different levels.

I never noticed that Ambush mentions you can take a move action, standard action, and swift action during a surprise round. That's kinda weird, considering you can already take swift actions in a surprise round without it.

Wouldn't be the first time someone at Paizo didn't do their homework. Prone Shooter, anyone?
