Lifting a heavy door

Rules Questions

Hi!

I'm gonna DM a Pathfinder game in a few days. I'm working with a friend of mine's book, as I don't own the Core Rules (will be my first PF game, I'm a seasoned 3.5 DM tho). Problem is the book will be away from me for a few days and I need to set up a challenge:

Party's way is blocked by a massive iron door. This door opens lifting up, using some mechanism on the other side, which players don't have access.

They can lift up this door using a STR checkm, I guess. There's space enoug under the door and stone floor for two of them put their hands and try pulling it.

So, how do I set STR DC for this? Based on weight? Is there any table for it? This should be handled as one player doing the check and other aiding (+2 bonus?) or both do STR checks?

Thanks in advance :)

The door weight isn't the issue if it raises since the mechanism is what the PCs will be competing against to lift it. One player doing a Str check with others (up to a reasonable number) assisting each with a DC 10 Str check to grant a +2 bonus to the primary Str check should work. There is a table in the Core Rulebook or the PRD, just scroll down a bit to get to doors.

On the Links menu on the Right, under Pathfinder is the words PRD - Pathfinder Reference Document.

It contains all the information from the Core Rules, Advance Players Guide... etc.

It should contain all you need concerning rules/classes/magic/spells/etc.

Just be warned that it can be a little harder to navigate then the books.

On the other hand there is also the D20pfsrd website, which is the PRD in a "wiki" format with extra stuff form 3rd party content (All clearly labeled from where and separated into different sections, so you can't mix then up.)

Look it up at:

Hope this helps!

Honestly, I suggest just picking a number that "feels" right. Just on instict, I'd say DC 25 Strength check. That way, someone with a strength could 16+ could get the door open while being aided by another person (and assuming they take 20) while you describe it as a slow, grueling effort as their muscles flex and ripple and their joints threaten to collapse and crumple under its massive weight.

Thank you guys!

This particular check isn't defined in the current rules.

Firstly, you could define a weight for the door and compare this to the total amount the two characters can lift off the ground.

Secondly, you could set a DC. One player would make a check and as many characters as you think can reasonably act on the door could aid another.
